Submitted by: fancylad 8 years ago in Funny

Face it, with reasoning, logic and debate skills that Christians posses, you will never win an argument with one.

I don`t believe in god because if he really wanted me to believe, he wouldn`t send morons to try to convince me, he`d also already have tom cruise as his poster boy, so...

in any case, if you assume that space is infinite, than god HAS to exist, but if it`s not, there`s only a chance he MIGHT exist, so I`m still waiting on that....

Sorry Elle, but Jesus doesn`t care about you being a good person. If you don`t believe in him, you don`t get into heaven at all.

John 14:6 - "No man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

Sucks for all those newborn babies who died with their original sin, having never been baptised or having had the chance to Accept Jesus as Their Lord and Saviour, but hey.

The way I look at it is.. I try to lead a good life, I stay out of trouble.. I live by good morals and values..

I don`t know If there is a God.. frankly I don`t care... One day when I die, If it turns out that there is in fact a God I`m sure I won`t be sent to Hell for not having read the bible 24/7 or getting baptised.. If there really is a God and he is Omni - everything, all knowing all seeing and all that jazz then he`ll know I lived my life as a good person..

If he or she still sends me to a Hell simply on the technicality that I didn`t fully commit regardless of the fact I did not sin then frankly he`s a prick and I don`t want to be in heaven under what can only be an unjust and unfair system.

If It turns out that there is no God, Then I have lost nothing and will simply rot and become part of the earth I once walked on..

Fair enough :D

Holy poo...this still going?? hehe

I just read through the comments and it has occured to me.. that there are some right morons on the Christian side of the argument, there are some right morons on the Athiest side... and a few people in between trying to keep the peace, the occasional comment regarding beef jerky or cocaine.. and some funny one liners.. (from both sides)..

Please never stop people, you provide entertainment for the rest of the world :D

Well by that same token, it must also be ridiculous for me to deny the presence of the aforementioned soul-eating mosquito-sized unicorn. Explain the difference.

Okay"
It`s not the fact that you refuse to believe in him that`s ridiculous, it`s the fact that you completely deny the his prescence that`s ridiculous. Just like we can`t prove something undetectable is there, you cannot prove that it isn`t. Yes, its not really a good argument against atheism, but that`s not what its supposed to combat, it`s supposed to stop both sides from using that weak argument.

Yeah, way back in 1982 when I was in grade 10, mankind was 150,000 years old, the earth was 6 million, Mars had canals of water and breathable although thin air, and the last ice age hadn`t technically finished (we`re in an `interglacial`) and things would progressively get cooler over the next 500 years.

Yeah, science never changes.

Doubly so for IAB forums...

Darwin`s original theory has been modified so many times, half the poo Einstein said has been proven wrong, the 1970s was all about Global Cooling and now its all about Global Warming.

Didn`t John Needham say he proved spontaneous generation? Yup, Science is completely definite...

I realize he was dissing on bat, and I was a little hasty when saying prove there is a god, I`m sorry. I`m just getting tired of all the drama. It`s true that there are some things you should not post. I guess we need the variety of views to get a big picture and possibly better understanding, but we don`t have to kill each other or diss on religion to do it.

You guys are stupid. He was showing how stupid Batmanners argument was. Can`t believe you idiots actually took him seriously. I guess reading more than 1 post at a time is much more than what some of you are capable of.

"Is "growing out of science" even possible?"

The same way people expect us to grow out of religion. You`re basing the whole world on observations which have continually showed us how drated up they could be. Not to mention rationale that is usually incorrect.

Most of what science tells us now will be outdated in 50 years.

I don`t think we`ll grow out of science, or religion. New will just replace the old. We need something to believe in so we wont feel our lives are pointless, and we need a way to learn and (hopefully) improve life.

And for the record, believe what you want (we`ll all figure out the truth in the end anywho). Just don`t go insulting those who choose to believe in a higher power. It may sound ridiculous to you, but to them, believing in the theory of evolution (as well as the Big Bang) is just as crazy (especially when you consider that those theories require you believing in a string of coincidental events with a probability factor of success so slim that it makes odds like winning the mega lotto 1,000,000 times in a row more feasible).

I love how safe and secure those blankets of circular logic that atheists wrap themselves in make them feel.

Atheist: God doesn`t exist!
Person: How do you know?
Atheist: Because I don`t believe in him!

Of course the same could be said for Christians (in fact Atheists often get a smug feeling pointing this out), but rarely do they turn the scope on themselves and realize that their lack of proof that he DOESN`T exist is just as ridiculous sounding.

We will grow out of religion in time, just like we grew out of using cassette tapes and steam powered trains... I like to think we evolve as a human race. The science behind the origins of the universe have only been discovered fairly recently, before that time, a God was the only rational explanation; we hadn`t advanced far enough to measure red shift or anything like that. You can`t call Christians dumb, if they were taught about Christianity in schools and churches, told by their parents, made to read the Bible, it`s all they will know. In 100 years, most likely everyone in Western society will be an atheist, because it`s what we will be taught. Until then, we just have to tolerate it. That`s just my view on things.

What if God put the bomber on the plane to smite some college students who went to Amsterdam to smoke a few bowls and spend a few hundred bucks in the Red Light district? From my reading of the Bible, God killed thousands of innocent people to make a point. "Love" and "belief" at the threat of eternal hell- Is that real love? If I held a loaded .44 to someone`s head and made them tell me they love me, would they really mean it? Maybe there is a God, but we spend too much time debating and fighting over what flavor it comes in.

Tbh, people can believe what they want - we all want explanations for stuff. But I`m too rational to believe in God.

And there can`t be any one god that created everything, because there are loads of gods to choose from. Lots of takes on a story/idea that was easy to believe 2000 years ago when they didn`t know nearly as much about the world and stuff.

"what`s wrong with this theory? it`s more ridiculous to say a sky fairy poofed it one day."

In all fairness we don`t know that`s how life originated (afaik), but a simple organism forming spontaneously is by far more likely than a supremely complex entity like God springing out of nothing to create everything. At this point the religious guys will "refute" that by claiming that God is infinite and eternal and has always been, thus closing the circle of stupidity.

I stand by this ultimately: When someone is saved from certain death by a strange concatenation of circumstances, they say that`s a miracle. But of course, if someone is killed by a freak chain of events — the oil spill just there, the safety fence broken just there — that must also be a miracle. Just because it`s not nice doesn`t mean it`s not miraculous.

I just searched `atheist` here, and there are links about atheists being treated like crap, or ridiculed. The only problem is the exact same flame war is probably going on in the comments for them. If this was a Xn site, this exact link would probably be posted to laugh at atheists.

But see, this isn`t a Xn site, and ludicrous crap is called out, so when some link is posted with the possible intent to bash atheists, it gets more support (it seems) than the ones that bash Xns. Hmm.

I don`t see how I-A-B could be completely anti-religious. It`s a community which means some people are going to have beliefs in a religion and some people aren`t going to agree with religion at all.

Science can`t answer anything that is unobservable. So anything that happened before Time cannot be answered by Science period.

As a christian myself it annoys me that any other christian would try to defend the dumbass Levitsky and his chums. His arguments aren`t based on faith or revealed truth or any religous teaching...they`re just utterly illogical and confused ramblings of someone who doesnt understand anything much about anything. i had a good laugh at his ignorance and felt good about myself. that was the point of the post. if you`re confident in your christianity, you wont take offence at this posting. if you`re feeling threatened by it, seeing it as some part of a bigger undermining of christianity, f**k you. if your faith is that weak, as to feel threatened, youre a disgrace to religious people of all faiths.

IAB not anti-Religious?

I think in terms of complete hostility towards Christians, some members sound like they belong on 4chan. I`ve been called countless names for believing in "that sky-wizard out of children`s fairytales". Now I`m not a sensitive Christian, but some of it has genuinely hurt. And the people judging me and my faith seem to have very little understanding of what Christians actually believe. They group us all with the few fundamentalists at Westboro Baptist Church and quote what they consider to be shocking passages from the Bible but take them waaaay out of context.
Heck, look at the tagline for this post. The website`s administrator himself is very sarcastically poking fun at Christians.
I`ve never attacked an atheist for what they believe, I`ve only ever defended what I believe. It`s often claimed that Christians are intolerant and in-your-face, but on this website it seems to be the other way around.
I feel like I`m having atheism shoved down

Fair question! I base that on the perspective of the person who posted the thankful prayer. Since the poster was Christian, and the bomber Muslim, the bomber "chose the wrong God" as far as the poster is concerned.
In the idea of `freewill` the notion of good vs evil depends on what your belief system is. The bomber felt he was doing "good" and the passenger who stopped him was `evil`. It`s subjective, eh? I can see how my previous post can be misunderstood.

Ahem. I never said otherwise. I never claimed to know what caused it (I could theorise) but I do know that all the evidence says it happened!

The post was directed purely at krisley who said, and I quote:

--"Have you observed the big bang? Is there definite proof that it happened? Flatly, no. A bunch of rules, and laws of physics make it possible to theorize such a beginning, but that doesn`t prove anything."--

But as ususal this is pointless...I can provide supporting proof for plenty of "scientific theories" but someone, just like yourself, will allways come along and say "but that doesn`t prove god didnt do it".

Of course your never gonna prove he did either so it will forever be a stalemate!

But in all honesty, If religion was kept out of politics (it isnt no matter what anyone says) I really wouldnt give a crap who belives what as long as they kept it away from me.

When in reality they`re just as silly as Christians, and they all just worship the same invisible man or invisible "lifeforce" (Taoism)

I do believe in the Big Bang. Have I observed the big bang? In a way, YES. I`ve seen the CBR distribution. It`s science evidence. I may not have seen the bang, but I can measure the echo. Is there exactly proof that it happened the way we think exactly...no. That doesn`t mean there`s not a lot of evidence that supports the way we think.

You said it yourself. We have a bunch of rules. Descriptions that accurately predict the way something will act. With these rules, we predicted CBR, BEFORE we found it. There`s nothing magical about it. The rules predicted it would be there and it was.

That`s science, that`s why scientists scoff christians. Christianity/ID/whatever weird thing your pushing doesn`t predict accurately. Its predictions cannot be measured or tested, and therefore it is useless as a tool.

I think the world was shat out by the honey monster during a smurgling contest. The atmosphere and stars created along with it are the bits of fart spray that occurred after the initil dump.. The world is actually oblong shaped and everything you look at is distorted and you can`t really be sure that up is down or down is up because we all have fart vapour in our eyes. You should be worshipping the honey monster`s scrotum which was wrenched from the monster by mistake along with the world when he shat. The honey monster is long gone and doesn`t even know what he created those many moons ago.

Big Bang Theory

Whilst non of us can "prove" anything about the big bang, there is some strong evidence to support it. "Hubbles Law" is undenyable. What is also undenyable is that so many christians here simply have no idea what the big bang theory is all about.

The links there, the evidince is listed once you click and scroll down a bit. The page even explains what the big bang really is.

At least have the decency to read it and "try" to understand what it`s saying!

5Cats: what makes you think your "god" is right, and the god of islam is wrong? Because a church told you, the bible told you? Well mosques and the Qu`ran told muslims that they are right.

How can you be so presumptuous to just assume that they are all wrong, and rejected your god? Have you ever taken the time to truly question whether you chose the right god, and actively rejected the gods of all other religions? I think not. Don`t sound so smug; you`re no more right than anybody else. That`s what bugs me most about the annoying xns- they`re so obnoxious and think they`re right about it all, and everybody else is sad and misguided. We can measure things that would suggest that the big bang is way more plausible than a god creating the universe in it`s current state. We can with no certainty say that it is so but we have more evidence pointing that way than we have of Genesis. If you believe in a god there must be a reason why. I don`t see what the problem is, other than that perhaps in this day and age people find it a bit embarrassing to admit to believing in a virgin birth, the trinity and all the nonsense in the bible and thus rather try to play the aforementioned get out of jail free card. I`m not trying to piss anyone off i just honestly wonder why religious people seem to have such a rough time with people questioning their fate.

Both statements are not outrageous. Choosing to believe in the observed universe until observations prove otherwise is not crazy or outrageous.

The burden of proof is on Christians, pure and simple, because they are the ones claiming that the observed facts are wrong. It`s THEIR responsibility to show their claim isn`t hornswoggle. That`s the way it works.

As to your statement regarding proofs, you can`t prove it how? Are you trying to do something like a liars paradox? I can prove it`s a statement. I can`t prove its validity because it doesn`t say anything.

I do not quite agree.

You might need to see a necessity to prove that God exists, and others don`t. So, who`s got to prove what? Both statements are outrageous, if you think of it. The existence of God would explain a lot, as it would raise an equal amount of questions.

We shouldn`t be requesting the other side to prove the existence of God, because, simply, not everything can be proven (need proof? I cannot prove this statement)

Yes, this is an incredibly old debate. If God is responsible for everything, why only thank him for the good things, and never blame him for the bad things? Well personally I don`t care if people believe in God or not, as long as it doesn`t lead to them performing stupid actions. If they go to church and pray and all that, and don`t bring their beliefs into the public sector, I really have no reason to argue against them. Well, whatever.

Different people have different logic. Why did that person have to reply to that person`s status? If he didn`t agree wih him thanking God, all he had to do was ignore that status, but he didn`t. I love God and will thank him for whatever I want to. People want to use religion like the christian religion to try to solve the mysteries of life, why we are here, but it says it clearly in the Bible, God made man for his glory. Science can`t answer why we or how we are here either, do see how many "theories" there are on the the creation of the earth alone, there are three main ones but there are more. I believe in Jesus Christ and his salvation by dying on the cross for our sins and all of the sudden I can`t be spoken to like a normal human being? But some one thinking that random stuff collided in space one random day and poof, and they are considered logical thinking? That seems like a double standard to me.

I guess "it makes you feel good", that`s the Law of atheism, right? I think humans can behave better than that.

The idea of "freewill" is a bit too complex to argue in 1K chars, but here goes:
A human (the terror guy) chose not to believe in God (Allah is NOT the same as the God of Chrstians Rick, Baalth!) and chose to do evil things. Now God can either allow that evil to occure or take steps to prevent it. WE don`t know which He chose, it`s a matter of Faith, k?
So a good Christian offers prayers to God in the hope that God is actively acting to spare humanity from suffering.
Note that if God stopped ALL evil, there`d be no freewill, no need for faith. idk why He wants it that way, but there it is.
PS: Not a Christian, I`m a Deist. We still believe in Freewill tho :)
PPS: Can`t "prove" faith, or freewill either, duh!. Try some other arguement plz.

I would say that IAB isn`t posting anti-religious stuff but they are posting ever more religious stuff which is just propagating these arguments which are pointless. Atheists aren`t going to make people stop believing in God by having someone they perceive as an arsehole online have a go at them. And Religious folk arrant going to make an atheist believe by having someone they perceive as a religious whackjob tell them to convert as theres a god and ure stupid for not knowing it.

Just cut back on this posts for everyones sake

Maybe Christians needs to get used to the fact that your faith is no longer impervious to criticism by some social standard. It`s no longer taboo to criticizes religion, live with it. If you sincerely believe in god i don`t see why this should bother you at all.

I haven`t noticed any anti-christianity in IAB. There have been funny posts about other religions too. It`s just easier to find amusing content about christians.

"You`ve become nothing more than another output for anti-Christian propaganda."

So would you stay if this was an output for pro-Christian propaganda?

God if fake. If he is real, prove it.

Happenings like this should speak greatly against divine intervention, no? One can`t help but to think that an all mighty god, if he wanted to stop something like this from happening, could go about it in many a more effective ways. Turn the bomb in to corn, make sure that the terrorist never got on the plane...any number of other courses of events would be by far more supportive of divine intervention.

In complete agreement with Reformer 81.

There`s a high level of mob mentality against Christians on IAB and has been for a while.

I`ve been arguing against religion in my mind for a long time. It recently occurred to me, however, that you can`t argue against religion with logic. Not because it doesn`t work, but because God isn`t bound by logic. This is a being that can (supposedly) create an entire universe that appears to be billions of years old. All the light particles/waves appearing to come from all the stars he created, already in place, heading towards Earth. Some of those light particles might even appear to come from stars that he never created. Any time you bring logic into an argument about religion, the defense can always be that God is all powerful.

Anyway, what Greg L and Michael K seem to miss is the fact that some people would have been updating their status to "thanks Allah for His great victory in killing all the infidels of the Amsterdam-Detroit flight." To them, God (Allah) did put Umar on the plane. Same God (YES IT IS!). Two different points of view. Who`s right?

Yeah. Just ignore the fact that there was a bomb at all, and praise the people who saved the would-be victims.

Okay, I`m outta here, IAB. You`re no longer scouring the web for funny and interesting posts. You`ve become nothing more than another output for anti-Christian propaganda. You should have stuck to what you were good at.
