Kind of weird that no Star wars was anywhere in that, considering what a breakthrough in special effects that was.

God... special effects nowadays are more realistic looking than reality.

Total fail - they messed up completely! The `1977` Star Wars Death Star Explosion was added from the remastered 1997 version I believe. After such a trivial mistake I am not suprised at the non-inclusion of bullet-cam or even wire fighting scenes of Matrix and HK Kung Fu films.

There was so much more tha could have been done with the horror genre, from the early Dracula days or even Hammer to today`s takes on the genre. Overall a poor effort.

If you didn`t know special effects were invented by Georges Melies, well, now you do.

Monsdurr: The trailers are in 2D.. The finished movie will be shown in IMAX 3D & Widescreen 3d.

So the trailers are not doing it justice.

A hundred years? But John Logie Baird only did his public demonstration of television in 1925...

That one clip from "The Ten Commandments" with the water washing over the Egyptian army was surprisingly good. If we remake that film, you can bet the director will want all the chariots to explode. :/

I wish they would have used more of the classic clips. Still, a very interesting compilation.

I thought the older one were quite good, given the technology back in the day. Many of todays effects are so over the top it`s like watching a cartoon.

This clip is really something though I can`t help feeling like SilverThread that it`s missing something due to the lack of mention of the matrix, I know that they should have stopped after making the first one, but you have to agree they broke major SFX ground with that film. with that film.

F*CK YEAH HARRYHAUSEN

Could`ve used some more effects from the "golden age of cinema" but still an interesting video. Wasn`t aware of the "changing-an-actor`s-appearance" thing till now though...

That was the coolest. The song sounded like something the Blue Man group would do.

"So....actors don`t actually look like themselves anymore? I is sad."

If you`re referring to the Brad Pitt one, that was in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Brad Pitt is 46 years old, and in that scene, he was supposed to look like a college-age kid. While he looks awesome for being 46, I don`t think he could pass for a guy in his young 20s, so they had to make him look younger.

And it only will keep getting better... until there`s some wacko trend that makes bad special effects cool.

The movie "Avatar" is going to take SFX to yet another level beyond what was seen in this video.

See, the special effects were actually pretty good a long time ago, because directors knew what they could do and they worked with that. Then in the 70s and 80s, they started trying to do things that the animation couldn`t really handle at the time and it began to take away from the movie`s quality.

@Kougaiji, I was wondering the same thing about Matrix. I was also looking forward to some CGI physics, like that you`d find in the modern GI Joe or 2012.

Vindictive, 3d movies don`t work for everyone :( I can`t see them at all because my eyes have two different prescriptions making me have little to no depth perception without my glasses. I have a lot more with my glasses, but still can`t see 3d at all...

That was awesome!! Too bad he couldn`t splice in a little Avatar near the end there, but its not out yet.

Anyway... I predict that in the not too distant future, movies won`t have actors, as the cgi will have advanced far enough to just create them. Aside from voice, but that can also be created.

I`m kinda surprised they didn`t have a clip from the Matrix in there. The original had some sick effects.

wow, that`s amazing. and technology is actually even farther than that. there`s a new (limited) technology in which, during the movie, you wear these big sort of 3D glasses, but they`re not the flimsy paper ones you get for children`s movies. they`re kind of like blue`s brothers glasses. and when you move your head, you can see different angles of the movie. it`s like you`re actually there.
