ok all you people. Kanji ORIGINATED from China. That`s why they have some of the same characters/meanings! an onyomi/kunyomi way to read them, chinese/japanese. -o- it doesn`t take years of study to tell you that JPN kanji started in china... (ex. Kyou, the kanji for capitol in Tokyo, is also in Beijing)

@Giraldus117

These are Chinese, as a matter of fact, these are Simplified Chinese characters. Kanji is Chinese, too, but it doesn`t include all of these characters on the sign. Just give it up.

actually chinese have a better chance of using english than the japanese because the chinese language has the "L" sound and the japanese use their "R" to simulate the "L" sound. So the japanese have bad engrish.

Hiragana:
その日本語の漢字。ので、私はいくつかの文字を覚えて私は日本語の2年を要した。

Romaji:
sono nihongo no kanji . node , watashi haikutsukano moji wo oboe te watashi ha nihongo no 2 nen wo youshi ta .

English:
Its Japanese kanji. I took two years of Japanese so I remember some of the characters.

Exactly@ beternal. Exactly what I was going to say.

They don`t look the same at all, I don`t know how to read Japanese, Korean, or Chinese, but it`s incredibly drating easy.

"And to tell them apart (rule of thumb): chinese has LOTS of lines and looks quite blocky, japanee has less lines and is more curvy and korean has circles in the writing :)"

Japanese writing is just a slightly modified version of the Chinese writing. Korea has it`s own unique writing.

If it looks similar, it`s Chinese or Japanese. Hard to tell the difference.

My god, are you people still going on about this? It is Chinese, I spent a year over there and I speak it pretty well, I know Chinese when I see it. This has nothing to do with the three Japanese alphabets, or Korean or anything like that.

Yep. Bekll, it is in fact Chinese. And they have so many people that they have to have a department for just about anything. I`m sure they like to cut costs on translations though. I once read a sign that said, "Please do not feed the fishes with your privates". And for a gynecology department, it seemed quite suitable. . .

the characters on the sign are def in simplified chinese, which is used in mainland china.. actually, "c*u*n*t examination" is one of the best direct translations they`ve ever made over there...

Just to add on akijade:
Japanese has 3 systems they could use Kanji (characters), Hirigana/katakana (phonetic) and Romanji (using English alphabet, not very official)
Korea uses Chinese characters too (`Hanja`) as well as the Hangul (phonetic).
The main thing you should look for is Traditional vs Simplified characters. Those are traditional I believe, so it can`t be mainland China (they use simplified). So it`s either Japanese Kanji or Guangdong region Traditional (e.g Hong Kong). Korea never uses Hanja unless they really have to (e.g. airports).

snoop -- Actually they are. Japanese uses Chinese characters in their writing. It`s easy to be confused if you don`t know what to look for.

Most people don`t know the difference between Kanji (Chinese characters used in Japanese writing) and hirigana/katakana (Japanese phonetic alphabets).

Get off your high horse, nubcakes.
