Meh. "I think the King James` version is God`d [...] word of God"
Does that parishoner really not think that that version hasn`t been adapted?
I am a Christian, and feel really ashamed of the few people (few when you count the total) who go about things in a fanatical way.

Who`s the ignorant one now? Some crazy `christians` do something stupid and it`s proof that organised religion is a joke?

What about when a group of athiests do something stupid? Do we group all the athiests together and say that atheism is a joke? Like I said, ignorant

obhwfgirl: NC state I`m guessing or Duke?

Sweetrebelnc: Totally agree. Unfortunately just takes a few crazy people to make our whole state look bad.

I actually go to a self proclaimed "southern baptist" school and most of the people here are the exact opposite of the schools position and if they do practice Christianity are not anywhere close to this extreme.

Takes a special group of retards to represent this level of stupidity.

Just like any extremists these people are taking it way too far and putting a sour light onto church, religion, and NC. (here and going to school).

Ok, so you think the books are "bad" fine, good for you. However, burning them accomplishes nothing besides proving your ignorance.

Makes me sad to live here reading things like this.

KJ version is the best version? Really? So apparently the greek, hebrew, aramaic original languages were not the true word of God and instead the version that was translated through hundreds of monks into the modern language of the time is?
Just because it uses eloquent wording does not mean it`s accurate, it means it was written by people smarter than you.

Because of this, Jesus` stories are layered with a natural bias; since the people of the time knew no different. Before you say "but shouldn`t Jesus have told the people that everyone is equal, surely he would have known what was inherently moral?". Jesus surmised the ten commandments into two; "Love thy neighbor" and "Love God". He essentially strips down the bull of the original 10, and demonstrates what they were trying to say. So, in other words, one CAN `cherry-pick,` by examining what is said, and taking away the veil of human interpretation, in order to really read what is trying to be explained.

"No no, odeed. Let`s discuss. Are you saying that you yourself cherry-pick? Methinks you`re just a wee bit hypocrital."

Ok, we must look at the Bible within context, rationally. Now, Bible-Thumpers will go around telling you that every word of the Bible is absolute truth, whilst militant Atheists will proclaim that it is a book written to oppress the masses. Neither of these view-points are rational, rather, they are knee-jerk reactions, which hold no water.

Now, the Bible was written by men, I know this, most Christians will accept this. `The word of God` is not literally penned by a hand from the sky. What the Bible is, especially the New Testament, is a record of events from that era; as such, it is filtered through the eyes of those who wrote it down. The misogynistic, and racist sections are all product of the era, bias of the writer.

I think of the New Testament essentially as a Biography of Jesus, and the effects of his presence.

I swear!
People ask me to join their church like, ALL the time, and today I get a video sent to me about how not believing will send me to hell, or something like how I should believe, and yesterday I saw something about this kid preaching about how evolution is all fake crap (poor kid, being stuffed full of poo before he can think for himself), and now someone`s burning my favorite books in carolina. wonderful.
and I`m still not convinced! take that!

Hmm... so... we can add Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Canton, N.C. to the list of insane and heretical "Christian" churches.

While they may be right that certain works (by extremely popular heretics) SHOULD be burned, they`ve gone a b...it far. "All issues of interpretation and meaning shall be determined by the preacher?" Isn`t that what the Catholics have done and have thus destroyed the core tenets of the Scriptures?

While much of the secular world is not necessarily forwarding God`s Kingdom, to call any faithful translation of the Bible "Satan`s Bible" is not only ridiculous, but I would imagine, incredibly insulting to the original Author!

@sweetrebelnc Don`t make Asheville out to be the only liberal bastion in the region. I live a little south of Charlotte, just over the NC/SC border, and there`s nothing like that in the tiny hamlet of Clover. A LOT of other redneck BS, but not this. I say you and me, my girlfriend, and some close friends band together and run up there for a protest. Seriously. If we can score some BBQ chicken and free books, why the hell not?!

The king james bible is a grossly misleading version of the bible. It drats up right from Genesis itself. It talks about an ex nihilo creation, but when translated properly it is clear that `God` had found a formless waste, and created all those things from that. Essentially, according to the original scripture the earth was always here and God merely molded it. The king james version essentially says that God had always been here, and created the earth. Clearly much different--like, entirely different. This is just another example of stupid people with religion.

Actually, ElSombrero, the DaVinci code probably won`t be in that pile since these kinds of Baptists are all about hating the Catholic church, and the DaVinci code is all about hating the Catholic church.

But for real. Mother Theresa? A heretic!? Are you insane!?!?

0
Reply
Male 12,365
How insane does a person have to be to think that a book written several thousand years after the original is the original? It`s nearly 1300 years even for the new testament (which was written in the 4th century from earlier writing and word of mouth).

The KJV is one of the worst translations of the Christian bible into English. Parts of it were pretty much just made up for political reasons.

Baptists... (no offence to the good one`s)

Question... if the King James Bible came out... let`s say over a thousand years AFTER Jesus... then how exactly is that God`s precise word?

Wouldn`t you listen to the scripture that was written when he was alive?

And... who burns Music at a Book-Burning?

The DaVinci Code is sooo going to be in that pile. The local library is going to plot revenge if they check out any of their books and burn them.
