"whos oedipus?..."

The main character from the greek tragedy "Oedipus Rex". He accidentally married and then knocked up his mother.

scotimann, it may have made it funnier, but it wouldn`t be nearly as clever. I know they mean the same thing, but I also know a lot of people who don`t know what mofo means.

Dragon, there is such a thing. The Electra complex is the gender-inversed counterpart of the Oedipus complex. For more info, you can look it up on Wiki :)

LOL thank you, Sunny. I wouldn`t normally not use such an odious book as a reference, but it fits.

I find the Bible to be a wonderful example of the literary genre known as historical fiction.

Also, It`s interesting to note that while the psychological complex is named for Oedipus, the mythological character didn`t actually suffer from it. He had no idea he was killing his father and marrying his mother until after it happened.

Dragon, there IS such a thing. It`s even in the Bible. After they`ve escaped the destruction of Sodom, Lot`s daughters get him drunk and have sex with him so they can repopulate what they thought was a now barren planet.
And of course, I`m sure there`s a small population of men out there who`d wear such a shirt as well.

"OMG it`s so FUNNY `cause it makes me feel like I have to have a little bit of knowledge (and can thus be called somewhat "clever") to fully understand the humor! It`s so cool `cause it so has to do with the courses I`ve been taken! I can see it now, the light, it`s unbearable!"

Oedipus was a character in Greek mythology who killed his father and married his mother. Sigmund Freud used this Greek myth as evidence for what he coined the Oedipal complex. It is when a boy - female version is the Electra complex - is developing through the phallic stage but doesn`t successfully do so. As a result, he stays - sexually - in love with his mother. It`s so much more complicated than my lamo explanation, but it has become commonplace language/referencing/knowledge. It`s kinda like being a Mummies` boy, but with a sprinkle of sexual.

That took me three seconds to understand... but when I did, I chuckled. Not that this matters, but I would`ve been just as clueless about this shirt if i hadn`t listened during psych class.

Oedipus was born. A prophet said He would kill his father and marry his mother. His father abandoned him. He killed his father. He married some woman. Turns out, she was his mother. He finds this out after they have kids. He stabs his eyes out.
