The Ladies of Oktoberfest - Safe For Work [Pics]

How bad can the Germans be if they host a holiday that highlights cute chicks, strong beer in big steins and cleavage?

I`d love to go there- simply because I could get away with calling attractive women "wench" without getting a slap.

And other obvious reasons.

Drinking alcohol should be used to enhance social situations. Not to create them, only enhance. You shouldn`t need alcohol to have fun. That`s why you should only drink around people you`re comfortable with already. It should only be a couple of drinks to loosen up a bit, and on occassion, it`s fun to get hammered, but only if done safely. If you never take a drink in your life, good for you.

Sorry for the lecture, but I don`t want the young people to make the same mistakes I did.

"There are, however, numerous similar festivals that bear the same name."

Indeed. Even one of the smaller towns I`ve lived in over there, Dorndiel, with a population of no more than 500, had a small fest including a carousel. As I remember, they closed down Main street.

@chrismunich

The big one is in Munich (or München), but I`ve definitely been to an Oktoberfest celebration in Berlin, I`m pretty sure they celebrate it in other cities than Munich too. I didn`t go for Oktoberfest, I just happened to be there at the time.

Heh, well I don`t consider the quantity one drinks as a scale of their taste or ability. Too many people in the U.S. are afraid to throw their bright yellow, tasteless beers down the drain and try something new and complex. So they measure a beer drinker by how much Bud Light you can force down before you pass out.

The most important part, as you`ve indicated, is to just have fun and try a wide new range of experiences. And I`ve found I can have much more fun with some good and sometimes strange beers, rather than getting wasted on swill.

"Not trying to brag, but you did challenge my beer drinking fortitude"
______________________________________

lol...nah, you the man! As for me, I cannot hold my beer (I can finish maybe a fourth of a stein) and my German friends call me a "typical American" in that aspect! I go to Oktoberfest to dance in my dirndl and meet tons of new people!

Oh yes, I have had Dunkel before, don`t think I`ve had the opportunity for Weizenbock. I don`t mind Belgian wheats, so I think a stronger wheat beer would suit me well.

I`m not your average American beer drinker. An awesome beer bar is a next door to my apartment and I`ve tried some of the great beers around the world there.

2 of my favorites have been St. Bernardus Abt 12 - A short description

And Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout - Old Rasputin

Not trying to brag, but you did challenge my beer drinking fortitude :-)

Oh Dakkar, they have so many kinds over here...have you tried Weizenbock or Dunkel? Bet you couldn`t handle it. It`s funny cause they have a beer purity test or standards reinheitsgebot (something like that), yes, it is THAT serious! And don`t worry, everyone speaks a bit of everything over here. Germans have to learn English in school as well as other languages. It is required.

I had a feeling that might be the case Davy, but I`d like to be a respectful visitor to a foreign land, and I think knowing the native tongue is a nice way to do it. But I guess when everyone is enjoying the festivities and imbibing the brews, the spoken language is of little concern.

Thanks for the info Chris, and those aren`t bad numbers at all. What are the typical styles? Bock, lager, dunkel, all of the above? I have a wide range that I like, but my favorites have the strongest kicks; barleywines and Imperial stouts fall nicely around 9 - 11%. But there are also days where its nice to have a beer that doesn`t have the mouthfeel of motor oil.

Someday I`d like to make it to Germany to celebrate this occasion, though I`d have no way to communicate. Have to bring along my buddy that is majoring in German.

But a lot of these beers look a bit light. Not American Macro-brew light, but not the styles that I really enjoy. Can`t complain too much though, its beer, breasts, and the harvest!
