I`ll feel bad when those who don`t have health care give up their cigarettes & alcohol, quit having kids they can`t afford.
The following are facts about persons defined as "poor" by the Census Bureau:

Forty-six percent of all poor households actually own their own homes. The average home owned by persons classified as poor by the Census Bureau is a three-bedroom house with one-and-a-half baths, a garage, and a porch or patio.
Seventy-six percent of poor households have air conditioning. By contrast, 30 years ago, only 36 percent of the entire U.S. population enjoyed air conditioning.
Only 6 percent of poor households are overcrowded. More than two-thirds have more than two rooms per person.
The average poor American has more living space than the average individual living in Paris, London, Vienna, Athens, and other cities throughout Europe. (These comparisons are to the average citizens in foreign countries, not to those classified as poor.)

Nearly three-quarters of poor households own a car; 30 percent own two or more cars.
Ninety-seven percent of poor households have a color television; over half own two or more color televisions.
Seventy-eight percent have a VCR or DVD player; 62 percent have cable or satellite TV reception.
Seventy-three percent own microwave ovens, more than half have a stereo, and a third have an automatic dishwasher.

Well here`s the thing. There are 45 million people in America WITHOUT healthcare. Not 45 million who CAN`T afford it.

Female 590
Yeah, well, there are 307 million Americans total. What I was talking about was the 45 million Americans estimated who can`t currently afford heathcare in the US. I made no typo.

--

Ah, I got you now, Davy. If we reform the healthcare system, though, it will be accessible to everyone, not just those 45 million.

That`s because they are pro-Obama my little pickle, this is called "Sarcasm" or sometimes "Irony" or "Paradox". Bless your little innocent Canadian cotton socks though.

Really interesting how many Americans don`t get this, I guess it is a reflection of their beautifully direct, simple and honest outlook on the World. :)

chrees516:
There are so many things wrong with what you`ve said I don`t know where to start.

First, you don`t understand how the US economy is designed to work and how it`s been allowed to become flawed, through people thinking they can "change it for the better"

Capitalism is supposed to be "economic inequality" This is supposed to make people work hard to acheive what they want instead of having it handed to them.

Second, this phrase "slavery that happened literally seconds ago in the grand scheme of time." made me laugh out loud. Look up the word Literally in the dictionary please. I believe you were looking for the word "Figuratively".

And getting stuck in debt. Anyone can find a way out of debt, if they work hard. Unforunately, many people believe they should be helped out of the debt they got themselves into.

I do however believe a college education should be standard education. If everyone has to pay to go to college, pric

This is going to open a whole new can of worms, but the problem most Americans have with healthcare reform is that its mostly a matter of bad timing. The actual process is going to cost over a trillion dollars. Yes. A trillion. Not an exaggeration. That`s a little difficult for a country that is barely recovering from a hard recession.

I agree that reform needs to happen, but I think Obama was prematurely pressured into addressing it -- I think he was more focused on bringing the economy back to stability, but try backing down on it when you have families who are going bankrupt because one member has a major health problem.

Definitely a very complicated issue.

davymid - i am also an outsider, and yet don`t have the self-restraint you show regarding commenting on this debate. perhaps because legions of liars in the states have spent the last few months trying to scare americans with the "evil canadian" system. i must say that the vast majority of canadians (though by no means all) are very proud of their health care, and the fact that the american system is so medieval is one of the things that allows us to remain so annoyingly smug.

Yet frankly, I`ve never understood the widely-held American complaint that trying to provide free health care to 45 million people is an ignominious act of [fascism/communism, delete as appropriate].

Your right Davymid. But with all of our freedoms, the freedom to be a mindless media/ email rumor mill educated idiot is one. We refuse to take that freedom away from these people...why? Because we are America, we give people freedom to say what they want....as long as it isn`t copy righted.

Davy > There anit that much freedom in America. At least not as much as some other countries.

If you`re gay, you can`t marry.
If you`re an Atheist, you cant hold public office.
Drugs are illegal.
The death penalty exists.
Most citizens are armed.
etc. etc...

Regardless of this, they`ve still got the highest GDP and most advanced military. So hats off for that.

I`m a Euro-peon, and therefore by default an outsider on the debate. Yet frankly, I`ve never understood the widely-held American complaint that trying to provide free health care to 45 million people is an ignominious act of [fascism/communism, delete as appropriate].

Call me an idealist, but surely no-one should lose their life savings/house/family/job/go bankrupt just because they rolled the dice and ended up with a roll of "Guess what! You`ve got Terminal Cancer! Tough love!"

Frankly I`m stunned that there`s even a debate in the country that markets itself on the world stage as being the freedom guys, your motto being "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness."

As long as you`re rich and don`t get cancer, that is.

You guys are weird.

Best Regards,

Dem euro-peons surely have no idea what racism is... They definitely never went through something similar to a holocaust.

The points you make about racism don`t even relate to Obama`s race, just his religious orientation. You are an embarrassment. Go wave your flag, chug a beer, and continue with Nascar.

madest,
"All" protesting against Obama? I might agree with "some". Maybe even "most". I mean, I don`t know everyone`s real reason for protesting against Obama. "All" is taking it a little far though. I don`t like Obama, but it has nothing to do with his race. I don`t like his politics, so I wouldn`t pick him for president. Even if you happen to judge people on race, it doesn`t mean the rest of us do. And as for hypocrisy, yeah I did like Bush for the most part, but what I liked had nothing to do with the money. Just like not liking Obama has absolutly nothing to do with the money.

Ahh, yes. The race card (yawn). As the second from the right implies (through sarcasm), the 45% approval rating for Obama is simply because they all hate n*ggers.

If an American demands to know how health care will add more entitlement to the budget, or add to the projected $10 trillion deficit, it`s because he must be a racist.

If an American worries that new mandates and regulations will drive up the cost of insurance for middle class families, making it even costlier than it is today, it`s because he hates n*ggers.

It`s such an easy "gotcha" when replying back, you don`t even need to know the facts of the debate...

So, it seems to me that people have a tendancy to judge a situation based upon their own actions and beliefs. So the third guy over`s inference is that only white people have a problem with Obama? So those saying anyone criticizing Obama must be a racist? Does that mean they took stock enough in his color to use that as motivation to vote and/or support him? Really, if one reality holds constant than the inverse must also be true. Right?
