the bottom pic is so far from hardcore anything
that it shouldn`t even be in the comparison.

and:
"kids who say they are non-conformist .. yet they all dress and look the same"
it`s not about non conforming to everyone, and everything. it`s about non conforming to social norm. that`s all.
no one can be original.

Any type of "scene" means you`re trying too hard and need to get a life. Hardcore or emo, if you`re judging someone on the basis of a "scene" then you`re no better than those you reject.

Current day scene is an extension of the "emo look"

hardcore was about not giving a poo and causing a nusicance.

Erm, do emo`s and scene kids claim to be hardcore? And erm... Punks still exist etc... So perhaps the hardcore people are still there, just fewer?

Why do internet things always end in flame wars... Makes me want to talk hippy dippy poo and hand out flowers.

It`s just because people have gone back to the 80s again like it`s something cool to do.

Hardcore has gone down the crapper, but it`s only like this in a small subsection and there`s been quite a sizable backlash at the `scene` kids. Hardcore is safe, don`t worry. The below picture is quite an exaggeration.

msieg007: "What hardcore USED to be about:

NAZIS!"

Actually, for the majority of hardcore`s history, most bands had either no political statements, left-wing/anti-Reagan political statements, or promoted anarchism.

As shown in the graph linked to at the bottom, anarchism and facism are at opposite corners of a left/right, libertarian/authoritarian chart.

Now, this isn`t to say that the scene was always homogeneous.

Skinheads, originally a fairly benign subculture of punk, over the years became more politically minded. Now, skinheads are nearly synonymous with neo-Nazism, though there are are many who are vocal against this, holding a militant anti-facist stance.

Incidentally, emo was started because of a particularly bad Dead Kennedys show that started with "Nazi Punks F**k Off," and ended with the singer exchanging blows with a skinhead in the crowd.

Yeah, and now you get the impression that the amount of retarded people are growing exponentially, but you get good stuff like innovative powerviolence, grindcore, crossover, crust, etc. bands that seem to share more atmospherically and lyrically than before. Remember that back in those times, Los Crudos was critisized by the actual hardcore scene when the frontman came forward with being gay. Or how everyone seemed to be a clone of the LA scene (which led to the infamous "This Is Boston, Not L.A." compilation. Yeah it looks good now, but there still was a fair amount of sh*t present. It just manifested differently.

Henry Rollins and Ian Mackaye would hate what has become of hardcore.

It should be about not giving a fook who you are, what you look like, just get together ,slam have a good time with GOOD bands.
But retards perceive what they think is cool and it grows like a virus. Ruining everything.

To Oceanbeast.
Yeah, I agree completely. It just sucks to go to a show and not just have fun. I went to a show a few years back. It was just a local show at a theater, but it was still fun. Everyone was moshing and having a good time. Heh. I was even thrown into some seats at the front row, and the guy who shoved me came over and helped me up and we jumped back into the mosh. No one is there is hit or hurt anyone, and I`ve never got into a fight or seen any fights result from a mosh pit. I`ve seen bruises, cuts, scrapes, and black eyes but no one ever fought. It is just about the music and having fun.
With this new scene...its just clothing and hair products and "oh! I broke a nail!" The sad part is I heard an emo-dude say that...Truly and utterly pathetic...
