SarahofBorg almost poor is when you have £5 in the middle of December and don`t get paid for 2 weeks and you have to pick between electric, heating or food.

That`s the worst I`ve ever been

Well no, I own my own old-ass computer and pay for the most basic internet access. I do have some nice possessions I bought back when I wasn`t so broke as I am now. And you`d be suprised what you can get from what people are just throwing out that`s perfectly good. All my TVs were free that way.
But what`s more important is I only have a part-time retail job, about 75% of my money goes to medical bills, and it took me almost 2 years just to save for a $1000 car. And I`d be living on the street if the banks were more strict. They`re giving me a chance to sell the place.
I can afford food and clothes fine. Utilities, however, are extremely tough.
So that`s what passes for almost poor.

I`ve seen worst. And your not poor if you got a car.

1. "worse" not "worst"
2. "You`re" not "your"
3. You would say a homeless person who lives and sleeps in his or her car that does not run is not poor because he or she has a car? I think you and I have different definitions of "poor" because I`d say a person who lives in a car because they have no money for a place to sleep is poor.

@SarahofBorg
So wait you`re damn close to the poverty line, but can still afford a computer and internet access? I call shenanigans.

Not really. Homeless people are allowed to come into our public libraries, which have lots of computers with internet. There is even a sign on the library door that says if it is hot out, homeless people are welcome to come in and cool off. So even homeless people can have computer and internet access free of charge.

Your shenanigans request has been denied!

That`s stupid logic. You can easily access the interenet without owning a computer or paying a monthly access fee. Anyway again you guys have this view that you need to live in rags to live in poverty.

Fair point. But what don`t you do to whine about your situation and doing stupid things to make it worse in the process."

Not exactly sure what you are trying to say there. Maybe rephrase it?

It`s impossible to live in most places in America without a car, so even the poorest people in America have one. And there are some states with incredibly low standards about road-worthy cars. I`ve seen cars missing doors and roofs in Kentucky.
I have a bungee cord on my trunk too, and my car is a similar model, but I don`t have that rust problem. I`m not in poverty by American standards but I`m damn close.

"I`ve seen worst. And your not poor if you got a car."

You can be poor and have a car. That`s the stupidest thing I`ve heard this week. Of course it depends what you define as poverty. I won`t take the UN threshold, because 1.25$ in the US is just ridiculous... A lot of people who live under the poverty threshold set by the US gov (I think around 15% of the pop) have cars. And might I remind that talking about the price of car insurance is kind of a moot point. It`s estimated around 15% of people in the US drive without insurance (coincidence?).

I think the problem is that you are confusing being poor and being homeless. A lot of families have homes cars and jobs that pay very little, and live in poverty.... There are people who don`t eat properly because they use the little they have at the end of the month to fill their tank so they can drive to work to make minimum wage and barely cover bills. I consider that poverty... you?

What`s to say that they have their car insured? But gas price is a killer... but you guys in the state should woop with joy with the prices you guys have. To put htings in perspective, take a trip to Europe, Norway for example. Or Sweden. Or Great Britain. Etc, etc, etc.

lol bungee cord ftw.

But seriously, they can`t be that poor if they can afford vanity plates. A crappy car maybe, but poor..idk. Then again those are Ohio plates and we DO have one of the highest unemployment rates atm.
