Man Builds a Full-Sized LEGO House [18 Pics]

Submitted by: fancylad 7 years ago

He used bricks pieced together by 272 LEGOs. Over 3,000,000 bricks were used so that’s about 816,000,000 LEGO pieces.

@ spirithound, the guy who "had" the idea is James May, a Top Gear presenter (the best car show). He has alot of fans and fans lined up to help build each lego brick, about 10 by 20 legos.

"I have a question though. how did he get all the legos? mythbusters tried to make a giant ball out of legos and said they couldn`t collect enough to make the size ball they wanted."

Maybe this is why the Mythbusters couldn`t get their legos...

"I`m gonna have to call Shenanigans on this one. That`s kind of cheating isn`t it? I mean using a wooden frame inside. I know it`s probably a code thing but still, I`d be more impressed if it was nothing but Legos. Actually, why not make the beams out of Legos too?!?!"
Probably another code, they probably have to be solid for the entire height of the house.

i really dont think there are almost a billion legos in that one house. think about it, if each 4*2 dot lego is 3/4 of an inch long then 816 million would make a single mega block about 62 feet on each side. and thats solid legos with no space on the inside. i think where it says 3 million bricks it shoul say 3 million lego peices total.

I have trouble believing the whole 816,000,000 pieces thing. Seems it would take many years just to put them together. That`s almost a freakin` billion. According to the editors of Infoplease, it would take almost 32 years to simply count to a billion.

The fact that one of the pictures is of Lego spelling out J May 09 pretty much confirms it`s James May.
Obviously volunteers are helping him with the project, these are the people you can see in the pictures.
As for the cost of bricks, well there was an appeal for Lego donations. I know because i donated some.
He`s building it as part of a new series he`s doing on toys.

He`s also done a garden made out of Plasticine at the Chelsea Flower Show and is going to re-create Brooklands (worlds first purpose built racetrack) on the site of the original, out of Scalextric.

He`s doing other stuff too, but i can`t remember what.

Of course it is! With the cost of Lego these days even Bill Gates wouldn`t have enough to build the whole thing!

Madest, calm down before you give yourself a heart attack. People aged 40-49 should be a bit more health conscious. :)

I`m surprised he didn`t use Duplo. I would think they would be sturdier.

\/ No its a fairly expensive way to build a house. It cost him a fortune.

Also its not entirely out of lego. He`s using wood supports. Cheater.

Also, I could build something more awesome. easily. If someone were to provide the lego.

And finally... Fancy needs his math skills checked in. There aren`t 800 million legos in that house.
