...Why does everyone have to argue? Not a single person here is going to CHANGE the point of view of other people on the forum, so why bother? You think yours is better; you think theirs sucks. Shut up, already, people. No one else cares what you think about their country.

"really? just because ur american doesnt make u stupid. and petty insults only hurt europes crappy image and prove that ur the worlds a-hole"

No, being American doesn`t make you stupid. Being STUPID makes you STUPID. Where the hell are you living that you think Europe is "the world`s a-hole"? The educated and the wealthy of both our countries` spend an insane amount of money just for the privelage of being there for -if they`re lucky- a few months out of the year.

There`s a world outside of XBox Live and IAB.. a big, ancient, breathtaking and astonishing world where the only "a-hole" must certainly be full of ignorant "s-heads" who are content with their expensive healthcare and condescending yet undereducated majority. It`s a uniquely frustrating combination.

On second thought, Europe does suck. So does Canada for that matter. Stay out of it. Please.

oh of course, Canada is only good at those jobs and certanly nothing like aerospace technology, new world leading medical equipment, amazing seemingly impossible inventions, a whole culture mind boggeling sciences or really f_cking nice people that gives us one of the greatest reps on earth. Canada invented the f*cking Wonderbra. You may as well sign alligience to us now.

Actually Canada`s health care system isn`t all that great. You have to wait for months to get vital surgeries. The only reason that some people say that it is great is because it`s free. I live in Canada and my Aunt died of lung cancer when she was given three months to live and five months to get her surgery.

I have family in Canada. If any of them were diagnosed with a tumor, I would check them into the Henry Ford Hospital in Michigan without hesitation.

There`s no way I`m going to allow any of my family members to sit with a metastasized tumor growing in their bodies for 4 months before they can get squeezed in!

Wow...you must live in a bubble with all your insurance. There are so many people now who can`t afford insurance because they lost their job and COBRA coverage is prohibitively expensive!! Besides, it only lasts for 18 months in most cases. My husband and I both worked hard and had insurance thru both our employers. When he got injured and had to take a disability retirement from his union (yes I know!) they had a contract that gave him full medical coverage at a discounted price ($113.00 per month). Then, all of a sudden, it was $360.00 a month, then $400., then $580.00!! Oh, and we are lucky because some of our friends and former co-workers who got laid of during the Enron, etc. brouhaha are paying double that amount! It isn`t just young people needing this insurance. I`m not saying I would prefer a government run insurance plan, but something is obviously wrong with our current system.

Oh crap, just read StudentofMan`s post - shouldn`t have done that - here`s what he had to say:

"Huh, funny thing health care. I`ve had nine extensive surgeries over the last 13 years using multiple doctors and several different insurance companies and I`m not indigent, on the bringk of bankruptcy or going to die. Is health insurance expensive, yes. Do I see a doctor when I want and within a timeframe that is beneficial to my condition, yes. Do we have medical insurance for the poor, elderly, disabled and veterans, yep. Do we need to spend 800+ billion again just to address 18-26 year olds who don`t get insurance anyway because they think they`re invulnerable, nope. I appreciate Canada`s system, and Europe`s, but it too has flaws and it is far too dangerous for us to ignore them and the long term impact of such entitlement programs."

My reply is above, if anyone cares.

I had a minor cardiac episode a while back. An ambulance was at my door within 5 minutes, a cardiac specialist was at my bedside in a private room in the hospital within an hour and I walked out within a week with an armful of medication. How much did this cost? Not a single damn penny. Britain rules.

I fell down the stairs about a month ago and cracked my skull open. Walked out a few days later, didn`t pay a penny. My great aunt, who lives on benefits and struggles for money, got cancer a few years ago; they cured it and it didn`t cost her a penny. I get numerous drugs and medicines for my migraines and low blood pressure, it doesn`t cost me a thing. You would think the USA, a developed country would have adopted a healthcare system where people shouldn`t have to die because they can`t afford it.

Sorry to burst your bubble kairobert, but Cuban healthcare isn`t as great as you think it is. Depending on the source you cite, Cuba`s life expectancy is either just a bit higher or a bit lower than that of the USA. It may be free but again the average Cuban salary is about 17 bucks. That and the repressive State, the rapery of Human Rights, the lack of almost any type of freedom, etc.

"Because of this, Cuba currently has one of the best healthcare system in the world, despite fierce opposition and sabotage from its neighboring superpower."

kairobert, you are so unbelievably full of sh*t. Even IF your claim that Cuba has the greatest healthcare was true, does that make it right? I would much rather be living in a country where I have liberties than to live a sh*thole like Cuba which is run by a dictator.

@studentofman:
I`m a 21 year old female who works crap ass jobs not even making 700 dollars a month while I try to get back into school and I can`t afford health care because they either deny me because of my pre-existing conditions, or tell me its going to be 800-1000 a month just to cover me.

There is something completely wrong with our system. And I`m not looking for free health care, I just want reasonable health care! I don`t have rich parents or a degree to get me a better job, so paying half of what i make a month to go to the doctor doesn`t seem right.

"ive always wondered with universal healthcare, who pays for it if its free?
not a retort, just wondering."

You have doctors, people to produce medicine, scientists to research, factories to produce equipment and people to supply those specialists who again supply them with health care.
That is how a society works, currency is only a tool of organization.

In a most western countries, free health care is accomplished through taxes. If you look at your neighbor Cuba, they take the "money is just a tool" concept a bit further, where everyone is paid by the state, including the doctors. That way, no one has to pay for that health care. As long as the healthcare specialists are fed and supplied, they will continue their duty of keeping the population healthy. Because of this, Cuba currently has one of the best healthcare system in the world, despite fierce opposition and sabotage from its neighboring superpower.

Americans already pay ~40% when you factor in federal, state, and local taxes. Sorry Canada, but we (Americans) DO pay too much taxes, our tax system is horrible, and it should be done away with ASAP.

@seabass: it`s because income tax rates are higher. Namely they can pay up to 40% or so in taxes, which are much higher than in the US. In the US people crap themselves for even thinking about having a double digit tax rate, like it`s wrong or something.

This is so true. My Uncle just found out he has a heart problem, and he can`t do anything to fix it because the surgery costs too much money. So basically he is living on the brink of dying any second because he doesn`t have enough money to support his family and pay for major surgery.

I have had 2 major and 1 minor surgery in my life. Never had to pay a cent. I have had numerous x-rays, ultrasounds, and blood tests throughout my life. Never had to pay a cent. I can walk in and out of a doctor`s office as many times as I want. Never have to pay a cent.

This is how it SHOULD be. Nobody should die or go broke because they can`t afford proper medical treatment.
