So I-A-B, what would you have done with the camera?

pretty sure this proves nothing about trust...because who steals one-time-use cameras, esp. if they have the time and money to afford a mountain hike

@lionhart: or maybe women dont enjoy hiking as much as men and that you didnt see all of the pictures

And fundamentally, the ONLY person who actually TOOK the camera was the Parks Officer... hmm...

What I found really interesting is that most of the (shown) pictures were men - presumably women have a more intense "I`m not letting a total stranger see a photo of me" sense than men. Or the women couldn`t work out how to get the camera out of the plastic bag.

Maybe a note saying "There is a $20 bill in this camera, but please take a picture of yourself with it and leave it here for the next person" would have made this end differently.

Or it could be like a few others have said- hikers are nice people. There`s something to be said about someone who goes out to walk among nature for hours.

I read "Camera abandoned by student on mountain top is returned full of snaps of fellow WANKERS".

Clearly, I need to seek professional help.

Honestly, let`s see him shell out $200 for a digital camera or something and do the same thing.

Someone would break it or take it.

I know it was just a cheap disposable camera but it really doesn`t matter. Someone could;ve said "hey look a free camera lets take it and use it for the hike" or "hey look a camera lets smash it".

I`ve had a friend that smashed up someones very REAL and expensive cell phone he found just because he figured they were stupid for leaving it there.

I`m a bit naive I admit I usually tend to trust people very much and i end up getting screwed because I keep holding out that people really will be nice and honest. I still think it shows that a lot of people are more honest than you think.

it was a disposable....who want to nick one of them
if it was like an £80 camera, then it would be a better experiment

I`d love to try that but people around here would definitely steal it.

ran out of film = $5 crappy camera. I would not of taken it but depending on the friends I was with they probably would have taken obscene pictures and left it.

I tried to do that once. I came back after a few hours and it was gone.

Improper scientific method aside, I needed adose of mankind again rather than the fresh hell the media serves us daily to make us hate ourselves and fear the world around us. Thanks Mornaf.

More people are honest than dishonest, but of course, had it been a valuable camera there would be no way of telling how many people had left it after taking a picture before it was nicked.

"The camera was one of the use-once type"

Well, that explains it.

It was returned by a ranger too. Sheesh. This doesn`t prove anything. Its merely an interesting diversion to a long hike.

Where I come from there`s a summit notebook at the top of most mountains, people sign it saying `they were there`. Anyway, its never stolen, for the same reason this camera wasn`t stolen. There isn`t much gain in stealing it.

"It was a nice experiment, but a little flawed in that he used a disposable camera. That has very little value to someone else. To make this experiment work, he needs to use a more valuable camera. Nice story nonetheless."

I agree.
