Macs are for professionals who are trying to do a job. They`ve obviously become more trendy what with the money Apple`s dumped into advertising, but they`re just trying to get ahold of the markets Microsoft has(indirectly) had a hold on for quite a while now.
I, myself, prefer PC because there is greater interactivity with the actual components and thus more choices. I`m sorry, but I`d like to see one other person who has the exact same computer as me. You don`t get that feeling when you buy a Mac. I don`t care how `individual` iLife can make you feel, it`ll never be the same as owning a unique computer, because someone, somewhere has the exact same one as you, and much more likely several dozens of people, if not hundreds, do as well.
A good way to sum this up: Macs are for the software nerds, PCs are for the hardware nerds.
For nuts-and-bolts power dealing with graphics, computer-farming, video, music, or any number of commercial needs, Mac is better. There are a few things it can do in the `fun` region, as well, such as music and video editing and such.
However, when it comes to kicking back and unloading a few virtual clips, a PC is the way to go.
Another aspect nobody seems to be discussing is that Macs aren`t upgradeable to the extent that PCs are and, to get a desktop PC comparable to a Mac is -vastly- cheaper if you know how to build one yourself, something that a lot of Mac users simply don`t. Not only that, but in buying a Mac, you`re essentially saying that a.) You`re too lazy/ignorant to build your own machine, and b.) You`d rather give your machine as little individuality as possible by spending money on hardware you probably don`t need.
Yea, because the ONE AND ONLY difference between "old-school DOS" and a modern OS are the amounts of user-friendliness... The fact that you even think that shows your lack of knowledge on the subject.
Fail. Sorry but your obsession for quoting ONE sentence of mine every time I post ANYTHING and following it with a smug little bullpoo one-liner can`t win every time. :)
you cant win that arguement, apple have already conceded that their os doesnt cut it, you say bootcamp ships with the new release, so their admitting you want to use other os`s rather than fixing the holes in theirs
game support, third party program support, brand familiarity, market share apple are losing out on all these fronts, they had to create the macs are magic belief system to turn their failing brand into a cult
and please stop distinguishing macs from other machines, internally they are the same, but when its running osx you call it a mac but running ANY other os its referred to as a pc, this is part of apple`s propaganda, just like the way they withheld 3g support on 1st gen iphones then acted as though they invented the damn thing when they put it on the second gen, you actually beleive their tech is different when it just isnt
Sorry for the double!
Sorry, it is just a fanboy rage. Whenever anything, ANYTHING remotely related to Macs is mentioned, it turns into `OMG MACS SUCKS` PC rant. Look, some like Macs better, some like PCs, get the hell over it. It seems like Windows, and Linux users are actually morally offended by Macs, if they hate it so much, I am not sure why they even bother. And seriously, Mac fanboyism does not even begin to reach the utter fanaticism of PC users.
It takes practice?
Also I`d bet my life those kids are from Cherry Hill West High School nearby, honestly its the only place with black kids in a 3 mile radius.
Eh, I`ll dual boot with my Mac, thank you very much. What other complete rubbish that people throw at Macs can I debunk? Um, oh yeah, I can play games, have been able to for quite some time now (dual booting, though, not for lack of a good operating system, but for lack of support), the mouse has four buttons not one (left, right, middle, side click), It can do pretty much everything that windows does, and is a better OS. Want facts? Well, for one, Apple didn`t need to create a useless new OS with irrelevant extras to cover up that the system sucked. Snow Leopard can support 16 Terabytes of ram, yup, Vista can do about 10 gigs, I think. Anyway, I am running out of space, and can`t be bothered arguing.
Now as far as the software goes. People who hate Vista hate it because they are afraid of change. Vista crashes less because the drivers can be restarted. Now whether Mac or PC crashes more really depends on how you use it and the software you put on it.
Thirdly, because some of you Macfags have been thinking it. The reason Macs "don`t have viruses" isn`t because the OS is secure. It`s because only 10% of people who own computers own Macs. Apples have plenty of security holes in them. -C
oh, then I`d waterboard that reporter, just because.
and why hadn`t they tied the computers down with the security clips that all coputer stores use
(my laptop has the clip built in as default fot the stores to use)
hey what do your kids think about the economic situation?
now your claiming that windows run via mac never crashes, what planet are you from?, you do know that mac hardware is just pc hardware right? literally the only difference between you using windows through yourt mac box and windows run through a home built rig is the case
is that it? have you confused "better computer" with "shinier case"?
Well duuuh exactly what I was saying about ppl not knowing their "facts". It comes as part of OS 10.5. And of course you have to pay for Windows, you have to do that with a PC too, legally.
As for not knowing what I`m talking about, course not. There`s no reason at all why 4 PC`s sit idle in the house while the kids fight over the "Mac" even though its running the same OS as the PC`s. Maybe because, unlike the PC`s, it never crashes?
if you run a windows distro through an ibm chipset mac then you arent using a mac you`re using a pc.
And as for getting it to work out of the box - well yeah if you`re an idiot who doesnt get how to use a computer then there`s dell, who`ll put it together for you and overcharge you for the privilige just the same as apple does
i really dont care what people use, just stop pretending that macs are better especially using that flawed logic
And also, you can hire a security guard that can run 10 yards without having a coronary. Just a thought, Apple store...
Knowing that I will have fun with my computer is the best knowledge ever. Incidentally, this is why I will get a mac next time I need a new computer.
It speaks volume when thieves think that stealing apples products is worth the risk.
Good for you. However, building a PC takes a lot of time, effort and expertise. Though I`m somewhat technically oriented, building an entire high-end workstation from parts was something that I was just not up to doing. Since I was getting an Apple education discount at the time, I figured I might as well take advantage of it. Not to mention the fact that the HP workstation I had ordered several weeks before was DOA. So in a sense, it was more of a "time to try something different while I have the opportunity" buy.
But that`s not to say I loathe PCs. I own 2 Windows laptops (1 Vista, 1 XP), which I have no problems with.
It all comes down to this...if you want to hate on a MAC user because they`re an idiot and purchased it for specifically for looks, go right ahead. But for someone like me who is technically aware, knowledgeable about both platforms and simply likes the Mac OS better, don`t criticize.
If you want to do gaming, or if you want to have a lot of bang for your buck, buy a PC.
The stupidity of people stating that one is better than the other completely baffles me, since it`s obviously a question of usage and personal preference.
Ive seen people go pro before but WOW.
i can build that for around 1200
I think it`s because they get the OS confused with the hardware or something.
I`m not saying macs are better. I`m just saying they compete with the windows based world.I`m not going to go into the whole "Macs can`t play games" stuff or the "Macs are easier to navigate with" stuff.
It`s a matter of opinion which computer you prefer.
BEAT THAT, FANBOYS AND FANGIRLS!
People who don`t need a good computer? I have a Mac Pro tower for video and graphics work. It`s got dual quad core Intel Xeon server-grade processors, 10 GB RAM, and triple HDDs. And it all cost me under a little over $3k with some 3rd party upgrades. A comparable tower from HP would have cost me $4-5k.
Does Apple overprice their flashy MacBooks? Absolutely yes. Are they crap? No. And for the record, Mac Pros are very reasonable for professionals, with exceptional build quality.
But back on topic. I`m not to far from this store, and coincidentally the shop I worked at got robbed in a similar way last year. The only good part was the hilarity in watching the tape and seeing one of the thieves smash his head on the door frame on the way out lol.
I havent drating crashed for a year.. im running vista x64
I was at school today and my trig teacher was running a mac. and it drating crashed for no reason. Its obvious that macs are terrible.
(btw, i have to deal with a school full of macs. they get a drating discount from apple.)so, get windows. drill a hole in a mac and Screw the screen
That is all.
Macs... overpriced low-end garbage. For people who both don`t need a good computer and have money to burn.
If any of you have paid $3k for one of those crapbook-pros, I pity you. You`re either stupid or fabulously rich and ignorant.
That is irrelevant, the operating system is just significantly better than windows. It is an OS that is actually well written, rather than a bunch of bloatware strung together into a hasty, and buggy program.
Yea agree. To put it simply, Apple uses propaganda to suck bundles of cash from ignorant consumers.
summing up MACS are fashion accessories for designers or for teenage girls who wouldnt know how to do anything other than goto facebook
- "Spectacular"- "Action News"- "Like Pros"- "Skilled Practice"- "Art of bringing down"
Did you notice his tone of voice, as well as how riveting he sounded?
This is not news. This is made like entertainment. You don`t feel sympathy in an action film, you feel entertained.
Seriously, I hate apple. They are evil... them and verizon.
That`s pushing the limit.
Pfft. Tyson FTW!
"Give a man a fish\teach a man to fish, ect..."
Teach a man to fish, and they buy a funny hat.User-friendly is what its all about. I don`t see anyone running old school DOS.
Well, he made me want to commit smash and grab, if it gets me that kind of fame for being intelligent about what I wear, and pretending I have a gun.
User-friendly is bad. It is absolute garbage and should NEVER be looked at as a good thing. If all software was less user-friendly, then people would actually have to LEARN how to use computers and would end up able to deal with problems on their own. Give a man a fish\teach a man to fish, ect...
The fact that everything is so damned user-friendly is the reason why everyone says that windows always crashes. People buy a pc with windows installed, windows trys to do everything for them, leaving them completely unable to deal with any situation on their own, and then they end up crashing the OS and blame the OS for it.
User-friendly = total garbage.
"Overall, a Macintosh is a superior piece of hardware"
The hardware inside a Macintosh is whatever you buy it as. You can build a PC to be far worse or far better than a Mac if you wish. That`s like saying that the toy car you just bought is better than the a car built out of legos. Umm... that kinda depends on how good of a job I do with the legos...
"with a better, infinitely more stable OS"
First off, "better" is subjective, and secondly, The stability of any OS is almost completely dependent on the user. I run Windows (7 at the moment) and absolutely NEVER crash. Occasionally a game I`m playing will crash, but that`s the game`s fault, not mine. The only time my computer EVER get`s turned off is when I need to reboot after installing something, so my system stays up for weeks upon weeks.
Rofl, good lord that sounds terrible!
" Overall, a Macintosh is a superior piece of hardware, with a better, infinitely more stable OS, and is generally a more user-friendly piece of equipment."
Maybe, but a company that refuses to separate the software from the hardware "symbolizes all that is bad" with our digital world.
If Apple were to drop the hardware and sell the Mac OS as a piece of software that one could simply buy and install on their home computer, then hell, I`d probably even use it. But as it stands, they hurt the evolution of technology by insisting that their software must be attached to their hardware, and that is unacceptable.
rofl, so much fail. It`s like saying...
"FORD sucks, DODGE sucks, NEONS win."
No wait, it`s like...
"FORD sucks, DODGE sucks, NEINS win."
Lenix? wha? you talking about the boxer? Lennox lewis?
This is how all robberies should be. Quick, precise, gone. XD
Next, the thieves signaled to the security guard that they had a gun and then took off along the long, clear tables of merchandise, the straight run allowing them to efficiently scoop MacBooks and iPods into their swag bags. The magsafe cords detached instantly, offering no resistance and leaving power sockets undamaged.
Finally, the stiff unibody shells meant that the villains could grab the notebooks one-handed from a corner with no flexing, and no risk to the internal circuitry, the tough aluminum bodies resisting the jostling clanks inside the sacks.
And so we see that it is true that Apple really does design for the end-user, with small efficiencies that all add up. Thanks to Apple, the scoundrels managed to load up their booty — 23 Macbook Pros, 14 iPhones and nine iPod Touches â&
1) The reporter symbolizes all that is bad with broadcast news these days. My God. It was a smash and grab robbery... I`d guess that hundreds of them occur across the globe daily, yet this reporter made it sound like the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse were raping orphans.
2) Overall, a Macintosh is a superior piece of hardware, with a better, infinitely more stable OS, and is generally a more user-friendly piece of equipment. I use a PC however, because it`s the difference between spending hundreds of dollars on a laptop, or THOUSANDS. If I had the disposable income, I`d own a Mac, no question.
Really, what is the news media coming to these days?
Windows has offered its headaches, but I feel oddly satisfied once I work through it and figure out how to fix the ailments. Maybe its because I haven`t been using Macs and OSX often, but its problems are cryptic and tough to manage personally. And I ain`t taking it to no damn Mac store...
Do all American reporters sound like that?In the UK its generally Queens english and flat, even if Satan popped up with the Marie Celeste up his ass
Jesus Christ, it`s not like end of the earth is among us. CALM THE drat DOWN.
Lots of people say that Mac sucks, but no many say that ipods suck. They sold 39 million in the last year, and Microsoft have announced they are stopping the zune, which reached no where near that.
Also people are confused with that microsoft make the xp/vista, so that fails, the computer does not, just the OS. Apple make their macs to work well with the OS.
I find they are both the same, it is just the user that expect too much from an inferior computer and then wonder why it fails, the user sucks, not the computer
shut up...you idiot...shut up.
So I`d say windows have better value, but with no doubt Macs are a better OS.
In all honesty I can say that macs are superior to windows.
First off Vista sucks nuts. I have friends that give me the usual "Macs suck" and they have all either switched recently to the Windows 7 Beta, or downgraded back to XP. Vista was a failed attempt to copy MAC OSX.
"I have had my Dell desktop operating on Windows XP for 5 years and it has only blue screened me and crashed once.
I had my Macbook for 3 months and it crashed on me twice. I have been working on new Mac computers for 2 weeks and it has crashed once."
Its been the exact opposite for me. My Windows has had to have been formatted more times than I can remember, and I`ve had to buy 3 or 4 motherboards. My mac hasn`t crashed but I have had to replace its hardrive twice (I bought my macbook when it was made of plastic, not the new pretty aluminum ones) Cont...
