"I`m beginning to believe that the United States has more than its share of idiots."

I think that`s probably an inaccurate image caused by three factors;

i) Idiots make the news. 100 people with fairly reasonable slogans that are correctly spelled don`t make the news, but 1 person with the slogan "OBama is a MUSLIN born in afreeka. Keep english the oficial langauge of AMERICA!" would be all over the news.

ii) Many countries show a lot of USA news, sometimes more than their own news. So many people get to see a disproportionate amount of USA news, much of which is picked to contain an even higher percentage of idiots than USA news in general (because that sells better).

iii) There are many people in the USA, so there are many idiots to choose from.

Made me sad. I`m beginning to believe that the United States has more than its share of idiots. While they`re fun to laugh at for a while, it starts to get frightening after you see so many morons, in what seems to be a perpetual "dumb-ass" parade.

I lol`d at the Youth in Asia one. When I first heard that term, the image I got were kids in Asia working in sweat shops.

I must say it was refreshing to see both the right and left represented among the idiots. Let`s face it: we both have them. Some of them, though, were deliberate attempts to make fun of the other side, e.g., "Youth in Asia."

Ha ha, for the Corpus Christi Dreamers; reminds me of my first week of school this semester. The black student union was out handing out flyers, promoting their new book trading service.

However, I don`t think ebonics translate very well into English grammar: i.e., "Buy and SALE your books" (emphasis added). Yeah, it may sound like it`s spelled that way when YOU say it, but don`t expect anyone else to walk away with a strong sense of hope for the future of California`s `underprivileged`..

FFS, it`s AMNESTY.
Also, I love when they underline the typos to further drive their point home.
Arguably none of it. Is England part of Europe? Ask different people, get different answers. Is English the first language of Scotland, Wales and/or Ireland? It`s by far the most commonly spoken language in those countries, but it isn`t native to them.
Well out of the choices of continents, the UK is in Europe. It`s also a member of the EU. So both politically and geographically, the answer is yes.

As a Scot, English is my first language. I speak no Gaelic whatsoever, and I don`t know anyone who does.

And the first language in Mexico is Spanish. It doesn`t matter that it`s not `native`, it`s still their first language.

Just to give an example of how much accents vary in England, I was born in Nottingham, then moved to a village less than 15 miles away.

I have a completely different accent to everyone else!

I`m sorry, but you can`t complain about English people speaking English with the wrong accent, why do you think the language is called English not American? And besides, England has so many accents it`s unreal, not everyone speaks with a typical cokney accent.

"We should speak english in America. Foreigners who come to THIS country (the greatest country on earth... Thats not why i pay my taxes... i alreadyknow how to speak english. not like in europe. Youre accents are weird and confusing."

repentnow, lemme see. New account, made today. Every post you`ve made so far has been deliberately inflammatory. Profile says Interests: Religion, Favourite Book: Bible, Occupation: Gun shop owner, Location: Birmingham Alabama. Except that best I can tell your IP address is in the UK. Pretty gnarly little parody caricature you set up there though. Personally, I think you went a bit too far, but whatever.

You`d best not be trollin`, friend, cause I`m on you like stink on sh*t.

"Well repent, that would be because most of Europe doesn`t have English as its first language."

Arguably none of it. Is England part of Europe? Ask different people, get different answers. Is English the first language of Scotland, Wales and/or Ireland? It`s by far the most commonly spoken language in those countries, but it isn`t native to them.

Back to Repentnow`s post...if you`re looking for a single accent as the right accent for English, it would have to be an English accent, as English is English. Then you have the problem of which English accent. There are hundreds.

"i alreadyknow how to speak english. not like in europe. Youre accents are weird and confusing."

Well repent, that would be because most of Europe doesn`t have English as its first language.
And you used the wrong "you`re/your".

Maybe you should take a wee refresher on English before you worry about learning Spanish.

"completely ignore that american english is infact the language of immigrants"

More like conquerors than immigrants.

Which, I think, is a big part of the point. Immigrants change to fit the country they move to, whereas conquerors change the country they move to to fit them. Language is one facet of that, but perhaps the most obvious one.

Take English itself as an example. The major influences are Old English (conquest, 5-6th century), Latin (conquest, 1st century) and Norman French (conquest, 11th century), with quite a bit of Norse (conquest, 10th century).

My favorite one was
"5 Years To Many" [sic]
because it sounds like a crime sentence: minimum of five years, maximum of many. Or, it also sounds like they mean "It`s 5 years to many of you, but only 4 years to us"
