VV in fact, what did Satan even do? opposed god and said he`s not that great? so god banhammers him for that? theres another reason why god sucks at all things, he`s hitler. oppose him and die is his motto.

"wow...TDK...took it right outta my mouth...well said!!"

thanks ^^ it`s kinda tough to write down the reasons you believe a religion is dumb. now dont get me wrong, christianity isnt ALL bad. it gives some people a reason to exist and encourages them to do good. but i just wanted to point out that christians worship a being far worse than the Satan that is written about in the bible.

We don`t need religion for morals anymore.

and if you`re going to pick out a religion pick something thats less crazy or more interesting than christianity =\

Only one more. Maybe.

One thing that can`t be denied is the effect that religion can have on an individual. I don`t care Christian, Muslim, whatever. There are people who have pulled themselves out of the gutter simply because they found religion. Whether it`s actual or not, something in those people changed for the better.

Again, please open the blind-eye to the good religion brings. You`ve got the magnifying glass out on the bad and the eye patch on when it comes to good. The usual atheist agenda. At least be agnostic. It`s less presumptious. Atheists are basically saying, "I`ve got this all figured out, the rest of you are idiots."

I know I don`t have sh.. figured out.

"It`s extremely bad for a group of nomadic hunter-gatherers to start killing each other for competition when they know that if they work together"

Uhhh...of course they don`t kill people in their own group. I said that in my post. But with a limited supply of resources, the less competition the better. I mean, if your family and my family were competiting over a piece of food, we`d work together to kill you just as you`d do the same to us. But, with religion comes guilt and shame, the driving forces of good behavior.

Its way simpler.

If your god is infallible, and the bible is the word of god, then you can`t pick and choose ideas from the bible based on current social acceptability...

5. so then, from the insight one may gather from point number 4, one may realise that if a person is of any religion other than christianity, then the bible damns them to hell for eternity, even if they are the most kind-hearted soul on the planet and never hurt anybody or anything. simply because they did not worship your god, whether they knew about him or not.

But seriously, idk why im arguing this, most christians are so brain-washed into believing this junk that their own god couldnt get them to stop believing it.

these 5 points all assume that the Bible contains only truth.

and a final word to all christians, try really thinking about your religion for once. really, really think.

If what the bible says is true, then your god (speaking to christians) is an evil bastard that deserves to rot in hell for all eternity. Reasons follow.

1. God created hell with the full intention of using it and torturing lesser beings for all eternity.

2. a `forgiving` god wouldn`t make it all eternity.

3. No person could possibly do anything bad enough on this planet to deserve eternal torture. even murderers do not deserve such a punishment.

4. the bible says you will burn in hell if you believe in any other religion. I guarantee you, if any christian were born into a muslim family/community, they would be muslim. this is true because children will follow their parents unless they are smart enough to think for themselves, thus its an endless cycle of parents drilling religion into their childs belief system. so the main point of point#4 is that you dont choose your religion, parents choose your religion.

continued in another post starting with point#5.

yay for a religion that convinces close-minded idiots to worship the most evil being ever thought up. If you have to ask what i mean, then think about what your god (if you`re christian, i dont know about other religions) does to people. no being that does these things can be a good entity. nobody deserves eternal torture, no matter the circumstances.

That`s kind of a dumb statement to make. I thought atheists were supposed to be smarter than the rest of us who believe in some power higher than ourselves. You just ruined it for the rest of your ilk. (by supersmash)

@KMeTG: you`re almost accurate in your assumption; but with or with out religion and the "morals" it teaches, we would still be smart enough to live in a "civil world".

"At its best, it (religion) supplied us with the laws and morals that enable us to live in a civil world. Without morals, we`d just kill each other because competition for mating and resources would be the only driving force in our lives."

Morals are simply what is socially acceptable. It`s extremely bad for a group of nomadic hunter-gatherers to start killing each other for competition when they know that if they work together, everyone has a better chance of survival. Early humans realised the benefits of working in a team long before anyone pondered how they came to be.

Basically, morals came first as a derivative of altruism. Abstract and imaginative (i.e. religious) thought came along much later.

Of course there`s people who think they know everything arguing with other people who think they know everything at the slightest mention of any belief system they don`t agree with, this is a much better use of our time than just enjoying the artwork.

alt f13, please explain "whiny brat".

Most people took my mostly tounge-in-cheek berating of atheism as just that. They looked through that to see I was asking a question and sharing a sentiment that all people feel. They thoughtfully answered my question and I appreciate that. You, on the other hand, resorted to meaningless insults.

I am aware that laws and morals that were originally religion-based have now been adopted by secular groups as well. It`s just that they seem to have started with religion. So, no matter what your opinion of the state of religion today, you can`t deny the positive impact it has had on the world. Along with the negative, of course.

"That`s kind of a dumb statement to make."

I agree the statement lacks much substance, but you, SuperSmash, need to stop being a whiny brat. It`s self-righteous blather such as what you`ve displayed that initially drove me to be associated with my "ilk" in the first place. Though, I`m utterly crushed that we`re now ruined.

"As an atheist" I appreciate the merits of the art project in the same way I would appreciate similar depictions of the events of Lord of the Rings: unique and provocative renditions of a fairy tale.

Funny how the Pointless Atheist`s name is "Divine Wind". I`ll assume he meant "God`s Fart."

"This is what organized religion does and it is why many people are turn away from religion all together."

Well, your example is organized religion at its worst. That seems to be all atheists can see. They are utterly blind to the good that can religion can bring and only notice the bad. It`s called subjective validation.

At its best, it supplied us with the laws and morals that enable us to live in a civil world. Without morals, we`d just kill each other because competition for mating and resources would be the only driving force in our lives. Basically, we`d be apes who can read. If you`re not in my group, you don`t really need to live all that much.

I am including all forms of religion that focus on a higher being. From Greek gods to Christian Jesus.

SuperSmash and that is the very reason religion is so popular and because of our wants for meaning and our fear for death.
Because religion gives us a answer to so many of our questions and our wants, It has made religion the ultimate tool, army, law and goverment and it is that these ideas have been corrupted and altered to feel the needs of others who used religion to control the masses for their own gain. This is what organized religion does and it is why many people are turn away from religion all together.

Supersmash, I do not understand how an omnipresent/omnipotent spirit is any more plausible than the scientific theories. Given an infinite time span, anything that can happen will happen. I believe life coming to be was more of an inevitability than anything.

Also, we do not feel like lonely specks of dust or any of that nonsense. We are not here for a divine purpose; we create our own purpose rather than getting it from something that cannot be proven to exist.

As for the matter at hand, I really have nothing to say. It was not spectacular, but it is not bad or anything. I dunno.

By the way, as an atheist, do you feel lonely (cosmically speaking) and worthless? Kind of like you`re a temporary, insignificant speck of dust that will last for a split second before you die and all the things you`ve ever done in life won`t really matter? I mean, 100 years after you die, chances are no one will remember you. No offense, just wondering what the point of your life is.

I really am wondering. If you believe you are just a bunch of lifeless matter that somehow came to life and gained self-awareness, where do you find meaning in life?

why do people have to make stupid jokes to show that they dont believe in god, and then not even argue when other people start to do so. Look at me I`m making an unfunny joke about what I believe so others can fight about it, but I`m to much of a pussy to stay and do anything. That`s pointed right at you itsalwyssunny

Picture number one reminds me of something -

Some things in life are bad,
They can really make you mad,
Other things just make you swear and curse,
When you`re chewing on life`s gristle,
Don`t grumble,
Give a whistle
And this`ll help things turn out for the best.
And...

Always look on the bright side of life.
Do doo, do doo do doo do doo,
Always look on the light side of life.
Do doo, do doo do doo do doo,

If life seems jolly rotten,
There`s something you`ve forgotten,
And that`s to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you`re feeling in the dumps,
Don`t be silly chumps.
Just purse your lips and whistle.
That`s the thing.
And...

Always look on the bright side of life.
Do doo, do doo do doo do doo,
Always look on the right side of life,
Do doo, do doo do doo do doo,

For life is quite absurd
And death`s the final word.
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin.
Give the audience
