How can you be against it (or for it), if you don`t even know what`s on the bill?
But I`m still for universal health care (not saying that it`s going to be, but I think it would be nice if it was). And how can you not? I really don`t get why people are against it! Sure, I`m not as old as most of you, but I still care and have an opinion.
Oh, and the media (Fox News, CNN, ect.) all suck. They only report crap news. :)
20% of Americans don`t have health insurance. 80% is a number that opponents use to bolster their position against HC. Actually, 3/4th of Americans are unhappy with the costs of HC. So that figure is wrong.
Most of that 80% did not use their health care for anything serious or life threatening this year. A better survey would have been one asking people who ARE CHECKING OUT of hospitals and doctor`s offices.
Its so WORTH IT to risk the current system for those 5% and even more so for the actual 20% something and rising.
This country is CACA compared to other European countries, so mentioning them doesn`t help your argument.
People die waiting in ER`s. Thinking that they get good HC despite not being insured is just naive, wishful thinking. Please try to keep an open mind kid, you might not find a full time job straight out of college. What happens then?
This was fun. :D
What is your solution? You are so outraged by the current situation. What you do propose? European-like high taxes so we can all have a utopian type of health care?
Employers WILL switch overwhelmingly to the public plan because it will be CHEAPER. It`s common sense. Then nearly everyone will be under the control of the government.
Americans do not die on the streets today if they get themselves to an emergency room. Hospitals are required to treat everyone with an emergency, regardless of ability to pay.
87% of Americans are satisfied with their health care. Why should we jeopardize theirs to provide health insurance to the meager 5% of the population that doesn`t have insurance?
Bikenutt: That`s not "assumption and conjecture." That`s economics and the content of the proposed bills in Congress. And your life exp = anectodes. Anectodes are nice stories but pro
If your umbilical cord ever gets cut I`m sure you`ll understand why a public option is so important.
If the public option (which btw rewards doctors by the health improvement of their patients and not by the amount of money they save the insurance companies) turns out to be not so good then people with your means will stick with their private options, which will be cheaper anyways and will not cease to exist as long as people(like you) demand it. A public option is NOT a big deal, many first world countries have it.
I get the feeling that you want Americans who are in between jobs to go untreated and die out there on the streets. How do you sleep at night?
But I must say, doctors in general aren`t as good as they used to be, community wise. They are often impolite and inconsiderate, and unfortunatly, lazy. I`m not by any means saying this is how all doctors are, but from what I, and others have observed, NHS doctors seem to care more about their salary than they do about their patients.
But I still evaluate every position of his with an open mind. Please don`t try to discredit me like that.
Bikenutt: Hasn`t health care in America always been privatized?
The point is that this health care plan will lead to a majority of Americans being shunted into the government plan, which will eventually become the only plan when private insurance goes out of business. Then the government will be in complete control of our health care.
Thank you Europe for providing us with the worst example of human beings, ie Hitler, to forever compare ones enemies too.
"if our doctors complain or don`t give people fair treatment it is because they are greedy and should not be doctors."
Wow. What`s your job involve? Do you save lives and tangibly help reduce physical/emotional pain and suffering? Do you work towards curing cancer, influenza or AIDS? You`re willingness to portray doctors as bastardly ungrateful servants to society is , disturbingly disgusting at worst and disheartening at best. That is exactly the kind of attitude that inflames opinions AGAINST universal healthcare.
The United States has an aggregate debt of 53 trillion dollars. That means if Americans were to try and pay their debt off TOMORROW each person would have to pay something like $100,000 and each household would have to pay $400,000.By 2020 we will barely have enough money to pay for medicare right NOW let alone social security and the federal bills ...Not to even mention this new health care plan.
The simple fact is we can`t afford it. I`d like it, hell I have serious health issues that I can`t afford (insurance companies have shelled out millions of dollars for all my procedures/surgeries and treatments. I`m not bragging.) But free healthcare in America isn`t feasible. Even if we took all the money from all the rich people away...we wouldn`t have enough to pay for our current bills let alone pay for a program like what is being suggested.
The only reason Doctors in Canada think they are suffering is because they know they can go to the states and make a fortune. They are hardly underpaid up here.
Except for how bills spell out in words exactly what will happen. And analysts and economists tell those of us who don`t see it ourselves what those bills will mean for us.
The democratic plan will create a public "option" for health insurance. Because it is bankrolled by the government, it will be able to set premiums lower than any private company can. Millions of employers will naturally switch to the gov plan as it is cheaper. Soon private insurance will be forced out of business. Everyone will be in the gov plan. And then the gov has a monopoly and will bully health care providers into using only the drugs and treatments they deem cost-effective. Care is rationed and quality decreases. Americans lose any choice in health care.
That`s what`ll happen
I do not want government bureaucrats making decisions for me instead of my doctor when it comes to my treatment options. I don`t trust the government with my life.
Doctor`s are greedy if they complain about the government forcing them to accept lower and lower rates?! I really hope you`re kidding. Doctors are in business and public service, not JUST public service. They need to make money just like everyone else. How about you go to school for 12 years and incur massive debt and then work for a pittance as you are suggesting? Anything else and you would be "greedy."
Good god you have no clue. I know doctors in Canada and they are suffering. Their salaries have taken steep dives. But of what concern is that to you? They`re just there to serve you right?
Oh, and to the people that say... doctors won`t care anymore because they won`t get paid as much. Canada has universal health care and you don`t hear their doctors complaining! if our doctors complain or don`t give people fair treatment it is because they are greedy and should not be doctors.
And if this is real, the person that made it is even more of an idiot. This is why I hate people.
HC quality won`t go down because doctors will make more money if their patients get HEALTHIER and NOT by the number of tests they "DO NOT" perform (in order to save the insurance companies money) anymore.
Taxes have RISIN because we`re in a recession and due to the RECESSION there will be more uninsured. We need REFORM!
BTW, if you don`t earn a salary of over $60,000 then YOU ARE NOT MIDDLE CLASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just because you own a PS3 doesn’t mean you are.
DONKEYboy87, a few rich, hypochondriac people come to the U.S. for HC because they want the extra attention while A LOT of people from the U.S. go to Canada and even Mexico to get the HC that they can`t get here because IT’S EXPENSIVE.
If you don`t like the national Health care plan, stick with your private. 8sic9 has a point, Rich yuppies trying to buy a porshe are the ones who are whining.
I don`t share your point of view, though. Might be because I am asmathic and had to spend a week at the hospital some six years ago. I got good treatment, several test to verify that everything was ok (including a TAC, zilions of blood tests, lung tests...), and I did not pay a penny for it, since I pay every month in taxes from my payslip (I live in Spain). A public health system is (at least in my experience) not the "doctors doing nothing because they will get paid nevertheless" scenario that you describe. And if you don`t like it, you still have the chance to go on a private insurance and pay for private doctors so you have more options to choose from.
I still remember my american flatmate at the time asking with eyes wide open... "But how are you going to PAY for this????"
Sorry, but you don`t quadruple the national debt and rise unemployment to a 9,5% in less than one year if the former president didn`t screw up big, big time. I am not saying that Obama is a saint, or that he is doing the best, but he is pretty much dealing with the economic poo that Mr. Bush left behind. Same as the rest of the world, actually.
Also, trying to make a National Health System (I admit that I lack precise details, so I will have to do a bit of searching) seems such a good idea from my european-middle-class-can`t-afford-a-trip-to-the-States-to-pay-for-one-of-those-wonderful-doctors point of wiew than I do not see why people opose it so much. Will someone explain it to me, please?
Yup, that`s why the rich from those countries pay there way into the U.S. for, you guessed it, U.S. health care.I`d rather not be able to pay for heart surgery, than to wait for a year to get it. At least I`ll live then. And health care quality will go down the drain, because Sally IStubbedMyToe is going to be sitting in the doctor`s office instead of putting ice on her toe.
I`m not saying a national health care system is bad, just what Obama is doing is asinine.
Your ignorance isn`t helping your cause. Just because he knows his poo doesn`t mean his parents are "rich yuppies trying to buy a porshe."
If you`re going to try and act smart, don`t be so drating stupid.
It`s shameless and wrong. People are dying because they can`t afford good health insurance and a lot of people don`t care because they are selfish.
France, U.K., Switzerland and Canada have good health care systems. The U.S. is the one of the few 1st world countries that is still so BACKWATER on this issue.
Anyone who opposes this reform is a SELFISH IDEALISIC PIG!!!
And another thing, taxes will be raised for those who make over $ 200,000 so unless you and your spouse earn six-diget incomes don`t even bother getting into the whole `taxes` hype.
So to all of you haters: Stop trying to scare people. Sadly, illegals won`t benefit and also the health quality will absolutely NOT go down the drain but that`s wayyy to long of an issue to get into. >:p
I am sick of hearing about the "racism" of everyone who opposes Obama. His administration is destroying America as well as the freedom of american citizens and businesses. He has said on several occasions that he supports nationalized healthcare, and he is willing to overtake the ENTIRE SYSTEM to make sure that every citizen- including illegals and those who freely chose not to pay for insurance- gets healthcare, no matter the quality.
I am also sick of hearing W being blamed for Obama`s mistakes. The truth is this: Obama has QUADRUPLED the national debt and risen unemployment to 9.5% plus, and plans to dump another TRILLION into healthcare.
I could elaborate on each one of those points further, but I choose not to because, closeminded as you are, you would ignore every one of my legitimate concerns about the man and his intentions and continue to call me racist based on the sole reason that I disagree with Obama`s socialist ideals.
Also, CNN? Really?
We ALL know obama is a super secret Nazi.
People who are in that situation don`t go out and get jobs and stimulate the economy because they don`t have to. Why go out and work when the government will give me free stuff?
Universal healthcare will create government run hospitals that have people don`t care about their job. They won`t give attention the patients deserve.
That is my rant of the day thank-you and goodnight.
Btw that pic is totally wrong. Even though I don`t like Obama`s policy`s that doesn`t mean you can treat him like that. He`s our president for goodness sake.
I think hes flirting with him. everyone is looking at him like hes brad pitt
Thats the leaflet.
Just remember, health insurance doesn`t deny health care, it just denies payment. You can still get whatever you want as long as you pay for it.
That`s what Obama went by as a kid before he realized his ethnicity could be used for political gain.
Most tired expression used when it comes to politics. You know that saying can be used both ways, right, LordNick?
Look, I really don`t have anything to say one way or another on this issue, but when people start blurting out these kind of stupid phrases, I feel compelled to lash out.
It can`t be that hard to actually come up with a compelling argument, can it? Is IAB doomed to turn out like IMDb`s message board? I shudder at that thought.
I have tried looking it up myself but all i get is crap about Palin calling it Evil and Drug companies backing it or something. I just want to to know WHAT it is supposed to do and what exactly it is. I don`t want any biased opinions like or people telling me it`s a good idea or a bad idea i just want the straight facts about what it is.
criticising obamah this early is absolutely retarded, haters going crazy. You cant fix bush`s poo in month
Now, does that mean Obama is going to start throwing CEOs, investment bankers, and insurance executives into ovens? Of course not. He already has them trembling in their boots ready to do whatever he asks. If they don`t play along, he will cap their pay, raise their taxes, or simply have them fired. Or maybe he`ll just send a few busloads of hired thugs from SEIU and ACORN out to their houses to harass and threaten their families.
Granted, there are a few right wing nuts using the term Nazi, but not elected Republicans. Elected Democrats, though, use it all the time.
The more time goes by, the more health becomes a luxury.
Someone once said:
"I won`t go to your anti-war protest, but I`ll go to your pro-peace rally."
Well I found it sort of funny.
I don`t think Obamah`s old enough for that picture. . . Unless he`s a vampire. !O.O!
It`s too bad that any attempt to study this history causes such hysteria that we may be doomed to repeat it."
OldOllie, I couldn`t agree with you more.
The problem there is that you`re committing an entirely different fallacy. The only reason to compare people to the Nazis is the negativity of the holocaust.
Personally I don`t really care if there are "striking similarities" between Nazi hairstyles and his, nor any positive healthcare reforms, nor in taxation policies.
Are these evil things? No. Do they lead to genocide? No. Do they matter? No.
Unless the similarities are that he`s putting his least favourite ethnic group into gas chambers, your point is moot.
Unless of course your point is "First minor healthcare reform, next it`ll be genocide" in which case your point is moot on entirely different grounds I`m too polite to go into.
Maybe, but the guy who produced this pamphlet, Lyndon Larouche, is a Democrat (in the same sense that David Duke is a Republican). Parties cannot control who claims membership.
Comparisons to Hitler and the Nazis are always considered to be out of line because we always jump to the singular evil of the Holocaust. This is unfortunate, because it prevents us from learning the lessons of how the Nazis rose to power. They may have ended up being insane mass murders, but that`s not how they started out, and that`s what we should be looking at now. If we compare Obama not to the Hitler of the 1940s but rather to the European Fasçists of the 1920s and early 1930s, we can see a number of similarities that should give us pause.
It`s too bad that any attempt to study this history causes such hysteria that we may be doomed to repeat it.
Or... the Heath Ledger plan? I thought the courts took care of that one months ago. :\
