They`re giving him power to turn off T3H 1NT3RN3T5? Why not giv ehim the power to turn off phones, and the mail service, and UPS, and FEDEX, hell, why not give him the power to glue our mouths shut.

Oh, yeah, this is a good idea. Let`s all get a petition together to get this passed right away. With IAB`s strength of numbers we can pull it off...cough, choke, sarcasm, sarcasm.....
I`m going to move to a communist country so that I have rights. (Uh...more sarcasm, for those who take things too literally)

    Two Months Prior to Election:
IAB: OMG I would totally put Obamas pee pee in my mouth, for he is awesome.
Baal: Obama is a regular dude who will adequately address the needs of the US in trying times.
IAB: Screw you ballzag, he is the messiah and he hath cometh.

    Two Months After:
IAB: OMG he totally wants to make America touch his communist islamiofascist pee pee!
Baal: Obama is a regular dude, who adequately addresses the needs of America.
IAB: Screw you baalzag, he is the Antichrist and he hath cometh.

I sure you hope there are a couple of people here with the ability to read through the bias to just get the facts.

Fox News provides factual information, they just give their own little twist to it. So, don`t completely disregard the impact of this bill solely based on the source.

It seems like some people wouldn`t believe a hurricane was coming if Fox News reported it. The wind may be blowing at 100 m.p.h., but it can`t be true- it was on Fox News.

P.S. I dislike all cable news, but am not blinded by bias against any one station.

Yea, that`s pretty much how I remember it, lol.

I was all ready to declare him the messiah with everyone else back before the election, mainly because of his speech where he said: "Whatever we once were we are no longer a Christian nation, we are an EVERYBODY nation."

Now, however, the whole "but big government is bad!" argument against Obama seems to be making more and more sense every day. :(

If I could have found an alternative link to this story in the few minutes I had to approve it, I would have. Yes, Fox News isn`t very "even and balanced" but the facts are there, with their angle.

Every news outlet has their own angles and agendas. Some are pro-Barry, some are anti-Barry, but they still report on current affairs.

The facts are, there`s a bill on the block that will give the president the power to literally shut down the internet.

Is it possible that all the ball-licking pro-Obama news outlets aren`t going all out on this story because it`s their guy?

You can bet your sweet ass CNN and MSNBC would be all over this poo if a republican pulled this crap.

Try finding this on any other outlet but Fox News:

Maxine Waters wants to socialize the oil companies

So....was a Congresswoman threatening nationalization of oil newsworthy? Yes. Was Fox the only news organization on the scene? No. Why didn`t any other outlet show it? They`re heavily biased.

This is what the democrats (communists) do. They want complete control of your lives and your money. They tell you what to do and how to live. Why do you think in the past we have been so set against communism in other countries? Government control is a really bad thing.

It`s like with George Bush, you were always saying he was ruining the country, but you continued to vote for him. That sounds good, but in practice you are in wrong.

Firstly, it costs money. That means someone will have to pay for it. There might be some people willing and able to fund small parts of it for altruistic reasons, but in general it`s a business. Businesses tend to obey orders from the authorities.

Secondly, you hire net access through a business (your ISP). See above.

Thirdly, the web is a lot more fragile than the net itself due to the requirement for root domain name servers. If you shut down those servers in the USA, it would have a huge effect.

It`s not as simple as an off switch, but the authorities in the USA could cut nearly everyone in the USA off from the net.

This stupid knee-jerk reaction on anything that comes from Fox News is a little immature. Fox is reporting that Ted Kennedy died. Are we supposed to be dismissive of these facts because it comes from Fox News?

Check out other sources, and you`ll see that other organizations, including privacy advocates and IT publications are freaked out by the bill as well.

    ...as they should be!

You fought communism to keep your de facto colonies secure. The socialist nations failed because they were bound to fail from the beginning (no stability, no industry, no education etc. You should be amazed what they managed to accomplish with a government controlled economy) and faced extreme opposition.
The industrial nations already had the capital (and using it to control and exploit other nations) and tried to pin poverty on the communists to avoid the world turning against them.

Sure Stalin was drated up, but would it make any difference if it was a capitalist regime (fascism)?

Capitalism does not equal freedom and democracy, rather the opposite in the end.

I agree with a lot of the things that Obama stands for, somewhat, but this bill really is something that I don`t really agree with. If we give the president that much control over something such as the Internet, then when is there going to be a line? This really is too much power for one man in my opinion. Despite any emergency this could really hinder literally all of american at one moment. I don`t see anything good coming from this at all.

warrantless wiretaps were not a good idea and neither is this. i questioned those wiretaps, which obama still does, and i question this. while yes obama does not have a plug in the oval office which he can pull that also means once it is pulled it cannot be simply plugged back in. this leads to not just 10 minutes of downed internet but rather hours, days or even weeks. and the cause of the loss would probably never be revealed to the public with the excuse of national security. so the best course of action is to not trust, key word is trust, him with such a power.

Obama can`t shut down the internet, but he can shut down the internet providers.

You think AT&T and Comcast want to anger the government?

This would leave the vast majority of the United States without internet access. Some can figure their way around it, but most cannot.

madest the only reason this will not happen is because fox (and probably conservative talk radio) has decided to report on it and people will question it. (and for the record i watch both fox and msnbc, i mean chris matthews is the funniest guy on television, and at 1 in the morning olberman is the only thing on) and i can tell u if this was left to the hands of msnbc, cnn, ny times, ect... this would become law because they do not seriously question obama. (they may bring it up now that fox has)

also to all you "its fox news i wont read this" fox is a reputable news organization as is nbc or the others. the difference is nbc is focusing on attacking the bush administration or blowing smoke up teddys butt all day long, while some are actually focusing on the person who has power. and not listening to "the other side" is one of the most closed minded things you can do.

finally i was disappointed with the way the right allowed warrantless wiretaps, it made me so s

Ugh........ People need to stop listening to propaganda (from either side) and make up their own f-ing minds. Read the bill: "(2) may declare a cybersecurity emergency and order the limitation or shutdown of Internet traffic to and from any compromised Federal Government or United States critical infrastructure information system or network"
Meaning he CANT shut down I-A-B.com but he can shut down traffic to the FBI`s secure servers if necessary. Seems logical to me.......

blackjack, there is no Antichrist in the Bible but antichrists aka. anti-Christians. Basically, people who didn`t know how to read took the vague figurative description of a beast and equated it with what the Bible calls antichrists. Then wallah, the idea of the Antichrist was born to scare good Christians into fearing whatever people wanted to call the Antichrist at the time.

    > there is no Antichrist in the Bible

The Antichrist is mentioned 5 times in 1 & 2 John. "Wallah" is spelled "voila" (its French, and is used to call attention to or express satisfaction with a thing shown or accomplished).

Snopes.com has an article about this Obama is the Antichrist thing; quite frankly, IMHO, Snopes has never let me down for the cold, hard, researched facts on anything, so if they say its BS, then I call it BS too.

And this whole Antichrist thing is stupidly off-topic anyway, the main reason the government wants control over the internet is for when Obama is watching live streaming porn and its getting too slow buffering.

Heehee. "This is what the democrats(communists) do".

Your rights and basic needs should be taken care of by the government. This is not communism.

I think the real reason people talk about Big Brother and enroaching big government is they want it to be the case. We live in boring times, with boring office jobs, where we can see the scope of the world and how little we mean to it.

You don`t want to be a nobody, you want to be a big hero, saving the world from some tyrannical despot armed only with a blog and an IAB account. It`s no different from the nut telling everyone he is Napoleon.

Additionally, you are missing 2 extremely important pieces of information.

Additionally still: Have you considered that if you think all sources of information but your hand picked few are left leaning, maybe that`s because reality is?

Luckily, you can now rewrite reality to you own whims: http://www.c

And seeing as over $20 Trillion is made off the internet per year ($54.8 Billion/day; $2.3Bil an hour) You will have millions, if not hundreds of millions of people Demanding by threat of revolt, access to the net. And almost as many people hacking whatever "off switch" is in place.

I`m having a hard time believing what would even be a good scenario to flip the "kill switch" and cut off internet traffic from X network. I would imagine that by time the US found out about malicious traffic being sent from a network, it would already be too late to stop it. This includes brief DoS/DDoS attacks, hacking, sending confidential information to foreign countries, worms, etc.

What people fear is that good ol` Barry will shut down Faux News and conservative bloggers to crush dissent and get "communist" bills passed. In reality, if he tried such methods, it would likely end in failure of those bills and his impeachment. Hurr.

With this bill, the President or his designee (a.k.a. Cybersecurity Czar) can shut down any "United States critical infrastructure information system or network" (a.k.a. ISP)designated by the President as critical, including those in the private sector.

I read the bill. Half of it describes a scholarship program to encourage more students to get advanced computer security degrees and it also lays out the rules for a contest of some kind (kind of skimmed that part).

vague was the term used by the person who didnt want any legislation regarding the internet. That person may very well have understood what the new bill means, but when being interviewed, in order to convey their POV, they say it is "vague". I`m not saying i agree with any legislation but the sheep here have been fed and corralled into one particular point of view, and that is the point of view of the people opposing the bill. All of those reports quote the same person from the same interview. The reporters for fox and cbs, just rewrote the report from CNET with their own language. The interviewee is still the same, the interviewee`s POV is still the same and that POV is Internet legislation is BAD. Add in that the pres can call a state of emergency for US networks and that person who wants the internet free from law and you get a freaked out interview.

And lets be honest about something, the ONLY reason Fox is reporting it is because some other news source disagrees with Barry. If i was a reporter for the NY Times and actually said something to disagree with Barry, like say, his solution for health care reform. And i offered up a totally new solution that goes against what barry has in mind, then Fox news would ACTUALLY report it AND make a point that "Even the NY Times, the most liberal newspaper in the world, agrees that Obama`s health care ideas are bad." While what they are reporting technically accurate information, they are only doing so because it paints certain people and issues in a bad light. Same goes for MSNBC. If McCain had been elected and this bill came up, it would be MSNBC screaming PANIC with Fox trying to hush it up.

Socialist is the economic system. Communism is the form of government.

Good lord. You really are pathetic. Go read a book or something.

I certainly think Germany and France are more Socialist than we are, yes. Do you aspire to their system? I don`t.

    Yes. Stand up for theft.

You paid $8.00 for a broken arm. Do you think that`s right? That you should only pay $8.00 to FIX YOUR FUC.KING ARM? I can`t buy a decent meal for $8.00.

You are the product of luxury. A parasite. You require a fat and happy host (after all, you can`t get blood from poor countries, right?) for you to even exist.

Your entire philosophy is a luxury, built on the strong economy that you now take for granted. Like the wealth fell from the sky.

I say again, you are pathetic.

Of course I don`t mean you should have forced them. Get with the program, madest!

I mean that you paid eight bucks to fix a non-life-threatening problem, and you believe that it`s right. That other people should pick up the tab for your broken arm, or your sniffles, or rash, or friggin` cough syrup...

But whatever, I`m just a hater. Rah rah Obamacare, whatever.

Well, to be fair, madest only paid $8.00 to fix his arm because he had already paid for it out of deductions from his paycheck. Plus, he also helped to pay for the person receiving millions of dollars of cancer treatment.

    Yeah you know what?

Sucks to public education. The fact we have to pay for other people`s stupid kids to learn things they don`t even care about is horrible and should be abolished.

To hell with the oppressive federal postal system. Controlling our mail just makes them one step closer to controlling what we say.

Down with the military! The socialist government is just trying to have a federal military so it can bring in the gun squads once we question them.

Stop unemployment and welfare! If people don`t have a job and can`t afford things, it`s because they`re a failure and deserve death by poverty and slow starvation.

Just say no to universal health care! Yeah, insurance companies deny vital care for profit but it doesn`t matter because only the rich deserve to live.

For the less perceptive: this is satire. I can`t believe that people are so selfish as to accept the death of others for less taxes, crying socialism against a system that wouldn`t even abolish private provid
