Well the pictures are nice but you can tell they are done by a child - and he is taking art classes, most of us would be better painters if someone was teaching us how.

vvkimkio - watercolours are actually a really great art medium, it`s important to have the right paper (at least 120 lb, I use 185 lb) and some good quality paints to really make it work nicely though.

I`m not saying the pictures are bad, but the comments they made under the pictures were moronic.

I hate it when people look at a painting and start making these completely random comments about the picture, and here they were just ridiculous.

This is a horrible argument to make. Just because I`m a horrible singer, I can`t point out that someone else is tone-deaf?

And yes, for his age they`re pretty good. That in no way means they are good. To me, they look like the type of painting you`ll find for $2 at the Salvation Army, or free in an art department dumpster. To put it another way, while being the fastest 6 year old in the 100m dash is impressive, his time is only impressive in context. When you have to qualify that it`s impressive for a 6 year old, then it`s not necessarily impressive of its own right.

No, skine, you screwed up the argument. They said they were better, not simply that the kid sucked. Both are opinions, but I want to see other`s artwork to formulate my own.

And if you think this kid sucks, you know nothing about watercolor. Therefore, if you know nothing about watercolor, your opinion means nothing.

this is honestly not very impressive to me. when i was 5 i was doing things just like this. water color is extrememly easy to paint in..especially when you draw it out with pencil first like what was done on these pictures. the kid has talent no doubt, more talent than the average 6 year old, BUT i believe the majority of his talent lies in an earlier understanding of shadows and perspective than his peers(which is normal for someone naturally artistic anyways). We`ll see if the kid is really skilled or not once he hits highschool. Did he progress or did the rest of the kids just catch up at a slower pace?

Sorry, I missed that part.

"And if you think this kid sucks, you know nothing about watercolor. Therefore, if you know nothing about watercolor, your opinion means nothing."

I never said the kid sucks, or even that his art sucks. I even will admit it`s amazing for a six year old. The problem is that if I didn`t know he was six, I would have completely dismissed the works. They only show basic knowledge and skill in art.

While I`m not too familiar with watercolor, I am fairly knowledgeable about the process, methods and history of art in general. The main problem here is that the works are unpolished. Art isn`t the one or two hours it takes to get down everything on the page, it`s the ten to ten thousand hours afterwards.

Nono, they really are good, paintings don`t have to be in perfect perspective to be good. They are very atmospheric, and his choice of colours is spot-on. Stop being pretntious douchebags, he is good, and he is only six, I don`t think some of you realise how young that is. No one can draw that well at that age (Skull, if you say that you could, you are lying) most kids cannot even draw a face, and I`m talking a very primitive one.
It is at about 9 that the brain develops enough to understand complex concepts, such as shading and perspective.

v Come on, the kid is pretty good - but his parents are obviously coaching him with lessons and expensive supplies. I have actually seen some pretty amazing pictures done by elementary students, and I`m not saying that he is not good, I`m just saying that anyone with an art background can see that it`s done by a child, or someone just making sketches for a larger, finished picture. I think that if he keeps developing his talent, he will become a much better painter.

he is only six, I don`t think some of you realise how young that is. No one can draw that well at that age (Skull, if you say that you could, you are lying)

so....i must be lying because at the age of 6 no one can draw that well...are you saying that the kid in the article is also lying then? because you know...no one at the age of 6 can draw that well...

anyways, i was in contests against 5th graders (10 year olds) when i was 5 and i came out on top. I have the trophies to prove it.

Wut? I am saying this kid is very skilled, and thus why he is featured in a newspaper.
Do you have a photocopy of the article about you being a kid prodigy? No? because you weren`t that talented then, he is the exception to the rule.

revolder: its completely dfferent genre`s. The kid couldnt draw or paint what i have in my gallery, but i dont expect him to be able to at 6 years old. I never denied the kids talent, im just not impressed by it since its still to early to tell if he really is some artistic genius or just a faster learner than normal

Skullgrin-- I used to draw anime heavily from ages 9-14 and what I drew in those ages kicks the ass out of whatever you`re drawing now. I don`t doubt that in a few years this kid will be able to do full-blown portraits.

seasaw776: I never said i was better than the kid, all i said was that its nothing to be impressed about

mcgrowley: thanks

feiku: if thats true then thats really good, but i have a hard time believing you are telling the truth. everyone who thinks they can draw thinks they are the best there is

deathdefy877: i know that they are water color paintings, the straight lines comment was directed towards the pencil outlines that the kid painted over which you can see through the paint at times. Its not hard to sketch a scene and have straight lines

Could use some work on his feathering, composition is a bit off, perspectives are all disjointed and I get the impression he`s just filling time until he`s allowed to play x-box again.

Wow, I love the style. Like the telephone poles are just like sticks and the buildings aren`t completely straight. I think it adds an accent to the picture as a whole. I also like the type of canvas used for some of the paintings.
