First iPhone Invented in 1983? [Pic]

It"s pretty clunky and primitive by today"s standards, but it looks like Apple was ahead of the game early on.

Wow BullshtBob, really? You`re saying it`s not a iPhone `cause you have one? Well I`ll be damned, I mean it`s not like any of us non iPhone owners could know what an actual iPhone looks like, I mean it`s not like they`re all over the goddamn internet or anything.

Heehee. I remember those. . . Gawd I feel old now.

They made a bit of a deal about it in one of those "Gee whiz, look what we can do!" articles(I forget what magazine). I guess the magazine was inundated with a lot of "OMGWTFBBQ why the heck aren`t they releasing that?!?" letters. . . Then it was promtly forgotten. I tried to get my dad to get one. He read the article, laughed, then explained what prototypes and concept-models are.

Wow. . . I REALLY feel old.

grrr...apple should have released it! Just think of how it would have effected the further progression of technology! I mean, we could have had teleporters by now (or at least that`s what I`m banking on ;-) )

What the.. is he writing a check on that? I wonder if he could fax it too. That would drive the government batsh*t crazy trying to deal with check fraud.

Seeing as it was never released we don`t know how far the production got. It could have just been an idea that they didn`t actually have the technology to build.

It might be made by Apple but it`s NOT an iPhone (I should know... I have one :-)

My first mobile phone (1995) actually looked something like this. It was made by Motorola and called a Marco. It actually had a slim handset connected to it by a coiled phone cord like the one in the photo. This is a Marco without the cord attached:

@ Lionhart: You`re not kidding... before the first Gulf War my civilian job was as a Paramedic (1990). We had cell phones in every Paramedic Unit... They were built into a briefcase, weighed about 25 lbs (mostly battery) and gave you 8 or 9 hours of standby and a whopping ONE hour of talk time... max. The battery had to be completely drained before you could recharge it, and it took about 12 hours to charge one.

We`ve come a LONG way in 20 years.

Hey, I used to OWN an early iPhone back in 1995 - it consisted of an Apple Newton (here`s one next to a modern iPhone for size comparison):

and a 5mm thick cable that connected it to my Motorola ULTRA SLEEK 9660, the most compact mini-sized mobile phone ever invented up till then:

Affectionately known by owners as `The Brick`, it weighed about a kg and had a battery life of about 7 hours for a full overnight charge. Remember those old jokes about a guy carrying a suitcase that turned out to be the battery for his mobile phone? Well it wasn`t actually a joke to start with, you COULD buy a overnight-bag sized "long life" battery for the Ultra Sleek 9660.

A new meme inadvertantly endorsing Adobe products has got to be a new low.

Sorry - I meant Adobe®© Systems Incorporated, naturally.

On a side note, there is something strangely delicious about that chunky iPhone...
