Unless this becomes mainstream, people would just see you running around a table, holding a small black box and throwing skittles everywhere, and think you`ve completely lost it.

the processor in that (called Tegra) is going into the new Zune, which will be released in september. amazing performance and EXTREMELY long battery life. nfortunately, they predict each year their tegra chips will quadruple in performance, leaving each older generation of chip in the dust, making your device outdated after a year or less

A lot of potential in that, Imagine if you placed these sheets down as part of a scavenger hunt were you must look at the virtual object to get the next clue. You could place these anywhere and people would just see someone looking through their phone at something.

I`ve already seen plenty of various augmented reality projects out there which are awesome as hell, so this one didn`t spark a huge excitement.. but i still can`t wait for this stuff to hit the market on a wide-scale.

Yes! Getting ever-closer to porn replacing actual sex. Then maybe I can get some.

Naw...I`d probably still turn them off somehow. I got rejected by a prostitute on Grand Theft Auto.

It`s a good thing I eat all the skittles except the green ones!

looks pretty awesome, I wonder if there will be more developments into this area.

Imagine a headset which used a camera feed to produce enemies in your own home. Everywhere you go would become the game.

It`s just a crappy substitute for a WII controller. Which is too Augmented Reality, only way better (but still crappy).

lol @ valark. but seriously awesome. i wonder if the map is important, or if you could use any sort of 2-D picture to play on any sort of world.

Dfaulted: "was the game sponsored by skittles? I`d just buy tons of skittles and load the board i don`t care who i hit"

And that`s how you`d lose every single game. Didn`t you listen?
___

Pretty cool idea there. There`s a lot more to be done with that, though...

KucheKlizma, it`s not about how old or new the technology is, it`s about what their doing with it now, if you really want to go into it, the technology to run a car on water isn`t new but if it came out mainstream it would be considered as such, its the innovation that their using for a new purpose not the technology itself, way to look at the wrong aspect of this great NEW idea.

Wow, could this game come any closer to schizophrenia?

"Honey, why do you keep running around that table?"

"Not now! I`m killing zombies with skittles!"

I could totally see this technology being used for a virtual reality type of game. You wear a headset that does the same thing as the camera on that device and you go into a room where the walls project objects like that mat on the table did. Could even have it project stuff off of other people too I bet. Might be fun to experience first person like that.

Cool technology, but it`s not really very good for games. It`ll be uncomfortable to play and limited to low precision. It also makes little sense for a mobile gaming platform because it isn`t mobile - you need to have the right map static on a flat surface.

Having said that, I suspect that a creative gaming development team could come up with some good stuff for it. You have the usual problem, though. Few people will buy one without many games for it and few companies will develop games for a platform few people have bought, particularly when it requires a new type of game and control use. That takes more resources to do well and is impractical to port to other platforms.

Very cool technology, though.

f*cking PONED

Oh, and osirisascend:
This is merely a test. It`s merely a show of what the Tegra can do.

BTW: I have an nVidia 8800GT in my PC i built. There`s a 9500GT in my HTPC and a 7600GT in my mom`s PC.

Really?

I have to buy a bag of candy that I don`t like in order to get the full gaming experience?

yey, yet another game that wheelchaired people or ppl confined to crutches can`t play...

seriusly, games keep getting to the point where everyone hafto be moving around. anyone thinking about the cripples?

in 50 years they will all be sitting and playing "retro" games. how would you think it would be like if crippled/handicaped ppl could only be allowed to play... Sega 16-bit? thats what the gaming industry is going towards...

It`s like "attack of the killer virus" and "mosquito" games for nokia or "arcade reality" for palm treo, but with buildings and skittle-bombs. Basically, the same thing with a recognition system for map and skittles. Probably gets boring as hell like all the other camera-based games after about 30 minutes. They definitely need more stuff there, like at least weapon upgrades and bosses and more than one map. And more blood. More blood is always better in shooting games. Also, why "let`s roch"?
