All kitties do that, it`s instinct.
It`s what they use to break a bird`s spine when they catch it.... I just made that way less cute.

As the proud owner of one of these, I hear this quite often. Especially when there`s birds outside.

We think he`s communicating. >.>

I actually do not like cats, Lionheart, but that doesn`t give me any reason to be stupid and make comments about the word coon because its a breed of cat.

There is noting out of the ordinary about this. All cats (tho it sound different from cat to cat) can chatter like this. It`s not "talking" but rather their teeth clicking together. It`s an expression of frustration b/c they see something they want and cannot get to it (such as a bird outside the window) lol.

Word lionhart. Cats, while cute from time to time, are farking evil and should be eradicated, or irradiated, or eaten with fava beans and a nice chiante.

What, because I don`t know one insignificant subspecies of one type of animal from one pathetic state in one small country? Longtime IAB`ers know that IMHO, the only good cat is a fur purse and tonight`s chow mein, so why would I bother learning that anyway? So I know what FLAVOR my chow mein is tonight?

I`ve seen cats too that before.. so I looked it up, and read that it`s part of there instinct to hide in bushes and draw a bird near by sounding like beetles, then when the bird gets close, they strike!

Once again, I am going to say "awwwwwww"

I was expecting that squeaking noise the dolphins make, not the clicky noise.

I`ve only ever heard my cat do that when it was trying to get at a bird through the window. I`ve never heard him do it since.

"Desmond Morris says in his book
Catwatching that when a cat kills any prey item, it opens
and closes its jaws around the animal`s neck very rapidly. This
opening-and-closing movement is the best way for the cat to slide its
canines inbetween the prey`s vertebrae, killing it quickly and risking less
injury to the cat itself. Morris suggests the reason we hear our cats make
that noise while watching birds through the window is because they are so
excited about seeing their prey that they are making the killing bite in
advance. It`s the same idea as when our mouths start to water in
anticipation of a good dinner just because we smell the food."

Other then that, no one really has an explanation. I`ve had several different cats that make that noise when they see prey. It`s pretty funny if you ask me. :P
