The story is weird enough, but I have one question. Did the people involved (the artist and presumably someone in charge of the kid) not think people would notice?

It`s not the procedure that bothers me. It`s the fact that when the kid turns older, he might not want that tatoo. He`s only four. Yeah, it`s cool now, but...when he`s 16 and tryng to get a date?

This is wrong on multiple levels. For one, The kid is too young to make a decision as to whether he would want a tattoo. Secondly, his skin is too young for the ink.

Hell yeah it`s wrong. Grown adults can`t even decide on what to do with their bodies, cosmetically or otherwise. 4-year-olds sure as hell don`t. Plus I hate to see how it`ll warp as his skin stretches and grows, if he even still wants/likes it at that point. I`m less concerned about the tattoo artist and more concerned about where the hell the parents are and why CPS haven`t been called yet.

it was wrong for the parents to agree to it but it isn`t the fault of the artist. at worst is should be an assault charge. i would say child endangerment but bleeding heart non-nice individuals made ignoring a child in a dangerous situation where the damn thing doesnt even get hurt worse then going and beating a guy into the very brink of death

If the parents knew that the child was being tattooed and gave permission that is stupid. I mean I don`t think a 4 year old just walked into a tattoo parlor and said "ink me".

Of course even with parental permission i think it would be very unethical to tattoo someone of that age. how can a 4 year old possibly know what they want or like? Tastes change.

I`m on the same page as CrakrJak here. With the added question: Whoever this kids parents are, if their judgement is so questionable in this case, what are they going to allow him to do as he gets older?

Not to mention, as the kid gets older, that ink is going to look like crap as it stretches.

The artist that did it is an ass for doing it.

That tattoo looks fake. I went to his website and say the picture...I blew it up and looked at the tattoo and I am wondering why there is no redness around the area of the tattoo. I have several tattoos and everyone I had was red and raised all over the tattoo after it was done. I am going to say that this tattoo is a fake and the guy posted it to his website as a joke. On top of it I do not know any 4 year old who would be able to withstand the pain of a tattoo...sorry have to call BS on this one being real

"GothicQueen, as you said tastes change, no one should get ink`d or pierced by your logic"

Over the past few years, very few things that I liked have changed. They were nothing that I would have gotten a tattoo about, nor would I ever get one, but not everything changes for everyone.

And there is a difference from a four year old and, say, a twenty-five year old.

It can`t be real, because the parents would be in jail for child abuse and assault of a minor if it were.

(US Law - California)Tattooing of small children i.e. intentionally subjecting children to unnecessary, painful non-medical procedures and increased risk of infection or death, may be prosecuted under cruelty to children statutes as endangering a child`s welfare, by children’s services, or under felony assault statutes, by the police/prosecutorial office.

All countries have applicable Age of Consent laws where a child is given the legal right to make such a decision; that age varies between 14 and 21 in the US depending on state. Children can also receive tattoos with parental consent as young as 10, again depending on which state you`re in. Any child under the age of consent receiving a tattoo is being assaulted.

agrover- dude, the pic is massively distorted, how could you ever tell if it was bloody and swollen? You couldn`t see the blood in the outline of mine unless I put papertowels on top.

Sadly, this is real. A lot of tattoo artists want money. Kids of any age can walk in and get things pierced or tattooed- my friend was 12 and had her clit pierced. Disturbing? True story. Didn`t do it herself.

Perfection: The opposite of what you just said. Most people with (actual) tribal tattoos live in communities where no-one cares if they have them or not, and why should they?

Example of how they live in a country, prolly quite a bit nicer than yours.

Don`t even get me started on Circumcisions (which apparently net you 60% more blowjobs), and ear piercings. But I digress.

Quite frankly, I think they should legalize this. That way when any future sons or daughters of mine reach an age where they might consider it, I can say "If you ever come home with a tattoo, I`ll be taking you back to get a second one of my choice".

No, you cannot enter into a contract to perform an illegal act; any such contract is not only non-binding, but also prima facie evidence of being an accessory to the crime. Each of the parents of those underage kids you know (if they are truly underage in their state) can be reported to child protection and charged, whether the child begged them for permission or not.

In tribal communities with tribal tattoos there`s usually specific tattoos which mean something specific to the culture.

The problem with kids choosing their own tattoos is - well, think about it. Would you want to grow up with a tattoo of The Wiggles? Or Sesame Street? Or Dora the Explorer?

I wonder how many idiots who have pierced their daughters ears, when the kids were 2 months up to four years old, are complaining about this. Mutilating the earlobes are okay but the arm is right out?

There is a bonus though - as the baby grows up, the tattoo will stretch and increase in size. So a small tattoo as a child becomes a big one, for the prize of a small one.

i don`t think parents should be allowed to do anything to their kids such as piercing ears. if the kid is too young to say, "actually, i don`t want my ears pierced" then it`s too young for it to be done. it horrifies me when i see babies that aren`t even a year old with pierced ears.

I think that ALL mutilation should not be the choice of the parent but the choice of the child. When a parent does this, they are taking away the rights of the child to decide what he or she wants done to his/her body.
Now the time in which the child is able to make a good sound decision whether to have something done is debatable. I have a 4 year old, his idol is Spiderman. I don`t think that 15 years from now he will want a Spiderman tattoo.

I know a 14 year old that has 3 tattoos. His uncle did them.
I doubt that he was really tattooing the kid.
But the 13 and 15 year olds, that`s more beleivable. Nobody would actually tattoo a 4 year old.

I agree partially. They only do it to glorify their kids. Even if they don`t want to be. Then when their older, they don`t have a choice but to grow up the way their parents wanted them to be. And it sucks.
I`m not saying it`s WRONG, per say. But if the parent really cared about the kid, it wouldn`t be done. There are millions of babies with their ears pierced.

Maybe the kid will be emotionally scarred for life and then, with a bit of luck, she`ll take an axe to her parents in the middle of the night...

See how these things work themselves out? Nothing to worry about.

    @junebug2326 and others about piercings
I was by the wal-mart jewelry counter yesterday listening to a lady argue with an employee. She wanted her 2 month old`s ears pierced (the kid wasn`t there) and was told that she would have to wait until the kid was a little older, store policy. So she said her boyfriend wanted to just buy nails and do it themselves. She then expected the lady behind the counter to sell her some earrings `for later.` Which she refused to do, thankfully. Proof again of how %&#$@ed up people can be.

Giving a kid a simple ear piercing is fine in my mind, since it`s easy to hide later. It doesn`t cause the child a whole lot of pain (well, if they`re old enough, I think 9 months is the age for most store policies), and it`s something inconspicuous and easy to heal.

However, a highly visible tattoo on a child? That`s wrong. The child isn`t old enough to know the lasting consequences of this - that`s why we all have parents to sort us out when we`re young. It`s because we don`t know what to do with ourselves. When a parent shirks this responsibility and lets their child do something that could be regretted for the rest of their life, it`s wrong.

I don`t think a kid should have any piercicings either...not until they are at the age when they can decide for themselves if they want their ears pierced, then sure, but doing it to a child of 9 months is just wrong o.o
i dont think any baby wants to feel that pain, and it does bloody hurt...its putting a hole through your ear lobe, of course it hurts.

There`s a huge difference with this and a piercing. A piercing can simply be left alone and it`ll grow away, or it won`t be all that noticeable, the freaking tattoo needs to be removed with lazorz. Perhaps we should compare it to some other more common form of body mod done to children without their consent...i`m ofc talking about circumcision. Though this is still better as the children probably wanted the tattoos themselves, even though i don`t think they are old enough to make a very good decision.

Thank Megido. There are a lot of people fussing about getting ears pierced, and how that`s just wrong etc etc. But I`m sure most (I stress most),if they have or will have a little boy most of them would not think twice about cutting a piece of them off shortly after birth.

You are way way way off. A parent who is not Jewish and not forced to do so by religious tradition argues and studies long and hard (pun intended) about whether or not to circumcise - pediatricians are divided about 50/50 on the issue. It`s not a no-brainer

"Any parent who suspects their kid of being tattooed by Jerutis is asked to call the ...police."

So...that 4 year old just got on the bus ALL BY HIMSELF, walked into the tattoo parlor, handed a wad of cash to the tat artist and said "Gimme a Batman tattoo"? And his Momma got SUSPICIOUS when the kid started getting a lot of calls from girls at his daycare, or something?? I mean....is it just me, or might the kid`s parents have had SOMETHING to do with the kid getting a tattoo?
