Submitted by: misscutieroo 7 years ago in

In Rhode Island where indoor prostitution is OK, 16-year-olds strippers are taking off their clothes legally.

Itsalwysunny, I being Canadian and having been to a strip club will answer your question. We do NOT pelt our women with dollar coins or 2 dollar coins as the bouncers will pelt our faces with their fists. HOWEVER we ARE allowed to toss said coins at the girls parts when they setup little targets on their parts for you to hit, if you hit the targets you get a prize. And if you want you can give them bills but you have to set it on the dance floor NO TOUCHING ALLOWED! But you would need to spend alot so the other girls know who to dance in front of.

I have asked this question before and no one has answered it for me.....if you go to a strip club in Canada do you pelt girls with one dollar coins being that your ones and so on are coins or are you forced due to the pooty situation to splurge and throw tens and twenties? if so Canada is definitely the place to be a stripper

"i know no one cares, but i said that the strippers were dehumanized. that means that the act is being done to them. i was kind of rephrasing objectified in a more dramatic way."

`objectified` is the same thing, as objects by definition aren`t human. If anything, `objectified` is a more extreme term than `dehumanised`.

You`re missing the point I and others were making:

You say that strippers are non-human and objects. That`s your opinion. Personally, I think it`s a repulsive opinion. I certainly don`t share it.

When you say strippers are merely objects, things, not people, not even animals, you`re not speaking for other people. Is that really how you think of strippers?

"The whole "18 is acceptable" is such a complete joke. It`s ridiculous to say that a girl is completely ready to be an adult one day (her birthday) but not the day before... It`s different for every teen / young adult."

That`s true, but what better system is there? Should people have to pass tests in order to prove they are mature enough to be granted adult status? If so, what tests? Who administers them? What happens to people who don`t pass them by, say, 25? Or ever?

While declaring a person an adult on a rather arbritrarily chosen birthday is obviously a rather silly method, it does have some advantages. If you can come up with a better system, write it here.

"Angilion.. Men ARE defending it:"

paulmvr, the claim was that is it TYPICAL for men to defend (and, by implication, want to do it themselves) watching VERY YOUNG GIRLS nude in a sexual context.

That is not what anyone is doing here.

Do you really think that it is typical for a man to openly be a paedophile? Typical? Seriously? The claim is at best delusional.

You`ve written it repeatedly. What do you think it means when you say it`s typical for a man to want to look at very young girls naked in a sexual context, and to defend that?

Call it what you want "objectified or dehumanized" The fact is you want to deny someone with free will the right to have the job of their choosing. We`re not talking about sex trafficking here. We`re talking about jobs. If what they do offends you then don`t go to the strip bar. That simple.

It`s different for every teen / young adult. We just say 18 because that`s a number that all the law makers could agree on. government laws do not dictate morality... just punishable offenses.

madest, you sound like an old pervert. You should know that 16 and younger are very impressionable and should be protected. Sounds to me like you just wanna hang with the kiddos. (no offense, youngsters, but do you really want a mid-forties guy hanging out at your high school parties? Thought not)
I don`t think it is a ridiculous law. Have to draw the line somewhere.

Firstly- young people are learning, and that includes learning about sex, drugs, drink etc. This is part of growing up, however, perhaps it is wrong that fully adult people should take advantage of this? Two teenagers of , say, 15 and eighteen are comparitively close in mental age, which may ( or may not) be okay. But a forty year old is usually able to manipulate a teenager in ways which may not be to the advantage of the young person. So my own feeling is that we should not condone this until the girls ( or boys) are better able to make good choices.

I was using a reductio ad absurdum argument to show one of the fundamental problems with your argument. I thought that the idea of 8 years olds driving, voting and standing for public office was obviously absurd enough for that purpose, but perhaps it wasn`t.

@lady i do agree with you on some points. just because a girl has her period does not mean she is an adult or is ready for things that go along with being an adult. thats nice that you learned from your parents and follow what they taught you. but most parents are morons, and even the ones that arent cannot teach you things like they should. any one that teaches in absolutes if failing their child, black and white is wrong. the world is just shades of grey... also i do believe that you hate men and are prejudiced against them. you prolly have some very good personal reasons. and i will agree that about half of men are sex crazed mindless perverts that would turn the world into one giant whore house if they could. but half of men are not, you hating men is no different than a white person hateing black people or asian people or latin or w/e. i cant stop you but get down off your pulpit and realize you are no better then the rest of us.

"That would be very late for menarche, so you are picking extreme cases and applying them in general in order to pretend there`s some reasoning in your argument. Some girls start their periods at 8 - does that mean 8 is a suitable age for adult rights and responsibilities? It might make elections more interesting, but I wouldn`t feel safe on or next to roads with 8 year olds driving".

You are getting me twisted. I would never think obviously that if a 8 year old has her period, she`s automatically is a grown woman. She is able to bare children but that doesn`t mean that she has to just because her uterus is ready. She`s still a child and she`s not ready mentally. Even if that 8 year old looks like she`s has an 18 year old body that still doesn`t make it right to be on a strip pole and be watched by sick old perverts.

"The physical development of children and young adults is changing. The first stages of the pubertal process are happening earlier, according to recent studies – changes that are usually attributed to better nutrition. The onset of puberty in the UK has dropped from an average 16.5 years for females and 17.5 for males in 1840, to 11.9 and 13.1 years respectively in the 1990s."

I do know that from experience. I had my first period at the age of 9 and my cousin had hers at close to 16, but thanx for the info.

Negative_One,
Im not being ageist because not too long ago was I a teenager and I see that now and days teenagers are pressured more into adulthood. Kids have it harder now than when i was 16. Now you can`t text your bf or gf innocently without the whole world knowing and get thrown into jail.

IkeRay,
"what about those girls who had their first period at the age of 12, 11, 10? the ones who are out sleeping with guys in school or worse, sleeping with men they met on the internet. again, nothing special happens at 16 or 18 that magically makes the girls "adults" other than age"

You are right nothing "magically" happens when you hit a certain age. I started my period at a very Very young age but that didn`t mean I was ready to throw myself out there. I was chatting online since the age of 12 but even then I knew it was wrong strange men that wanted to "get to know me". My parents taught me rights and wrong and the dangers of meeting peopl

LadyChula629 - it may surprise you greatly that the law in Rhode Island considers 16 year olds to be able to give consent - and that appears to be consistent for a great majority of US states. Less than 20 I guess have an age limit of 17 or 18 years old for hetrosexuals. The UK and Canada seem to get the consent laws better where they make relative age differences a factor and also wether one person is considered to be in a position of trust or responsibility over the other (teacher, helper, mentor, assistant etc.)

No-one here is doing what you`re claiming it`s typical for a man to do. Very few men would, as would very few women, and nearly everyone, men and women alike, would revile them for it.

I don`t agree with those ages, but some girls by 16 ARE mature enough physically and mentally to be an adult and on their own. sure there are those that aren`t, but there are 18 year olds who also aren`t ready and nobody blinks twice at the thought of them.

I didn`t watch the video, but are 16 year old guys allowed into the club? if not, that seems pretty ridiculous, I mean its girls their age.

correction, teenagers, and how is it any different than those teenagers who are out drinking, smoking weed, and having sex?

I`m not defending the place, but I am quite furious with people who say "under 18 = children"...what the hell happens at the age of 18? some girls/boys are developed full at 18, others not quite, some still NOT AT ALL. 18 is only an age thing because we have no other way to justify legality of adulthood.

btw, 14 is legal age in some countries and nudity is only "forbidden" in america which causes it to become taboo. to some people, this is the same thing with teenagers, its illegal and thus taboo, even if the girls are more developed than some 21 year olds.

About stripping in general, not specifically under 18:

A coworker of mine, some years ago, quit to become a stripper. She got paid far more, worked fewer hours and considered the work better than what she was doing where we worked.

What`s worse - a menial job at minumum wage or stripping for far more money? Personally, I think the menial minumum wage job is much worse.

nudity is what you make of it. people pay for art that contains nudity, how are strippers any different?
people are people no matter their profession, if that profession happens to include nudity or sex that doesnt make them any less of a human. if anything it makes them more human because they are comfortable enough with their body, their sexuality, and their self in general to do that type of work. whereas people like you are so disgusted with their self that they cant let anyone else feel good about themselves.

Here in the UK, there can be a day`s difference in age and it would be illegal. Strictly speaking, any amount of time is enough, even a second. If both people are under the age of consent, prosecution is either unlikely or impossible. Off the top of my head, I don`t know which. Maybe they prosecute both of them, maybe they just prosecute whoever is male (due to the usual sexism). But if one person is over the AOC and the other is under it, the older person is likely to be prosecuted. Given that the AOC is based solely on birthday, it`s within the law for someone to be jailed for life for having consensual sex with their girlfriend who`s a couple of hours younger than them. I recall a prosecution with a few months difference in age that made a minor story in the p

"ummmm... pedophelia?"

No. Paedophilia is a sexual attraction to children. That`s children in a biological sense, i.e. people who haven`t started puberty. 16 is way too old for a paedophile. At 16, it`s common enough for someone to be physically mature, i.e. an adult. If not, they`ll at least be most of the way through adolescence. They certainly won`t be a child.

I`d make the minimum age for this sort of job 18, but paedophilia has nothing to do with it. I think that 18 is a reasonable cut-off point for many things. Individuals vary greatly, but the law must have a simple definition. A set age is far from an accurate way of determining a certain degree of mental maturity, but it`s the best way we`ve got without setting up tests and requiring a license for things such as voting (which I think would be a very bad idea).

I have to laugh at this one. If we, as Americans were not so sexually repressed and didn`t consider everything taboo, we probably wouldn`t have such a problem with young people in the sex industry. It`s all about education as far as sex is concerned. Remove the unknown thrill involved and it`s not as appealing.

somthing i dont understand, here in the UK, you can have sex with someone who is 16 or older, but like porn sites are over 18`s. and having images of my 16 year old girlfriend is child porn.

i heard about a 16 year old guy getting prisoned for having sex with his 15 and half year old girlfriend.

So? They are 16, that is plenty old enough to make a decision. If they want to strip go for it.

Where are the parents? You know, those people that are supposed to teach their kids how to behave? I bet in most of those cases if there had been responsible or at the very least loving parents, there wouldn`t be teen runaways stripping for cash.

Just another example why everyone should be chemically sterilized until they can prove they can be fit parents. :p

In teh rest of the world, 16 year olds are allowed to get married, have sex, kids etc, so what`s wrong with letting them strip? Only in america i guess.

Then again not even 100 years ago, 16 year old girls would already be getting married and having kids.

I`m not one to look down on people...They aren`t going out having sex with random strangers for cash.
If you think you can handle the kind of men who go in to watch you, and the harassment you get for being in that line of work at that young of an age, I wouldn`t say go for it, but if you need the money...you need the money.
It`s still really young to me, though.

There was a similar situation in my home state of New York a couple of years ago. It`s a safe bet that Rhode Island will do the same thing that New York did, and move quickly to enact a bill barring women under the age of 18 from working in strip clubs.

@ Crawdaddy197: As usual, your comment is right on the money. I`m guessing that no one ever thought to enact a law like they`ve proposed, because 50 years ago it would have been unthinkable that a 16 year-old girl would enter that line of work.

Eh, thats pathetic. I mean i suppose if you really need the money then yes, go ahead. In fact if i needed the money i would. But...still :/ that shouldnt be legal, and it should be a last resort for girls. But eh, do what you will, thats what i say.

Perhaps if the town was more proactive in youth concerns she wouldn`t be stripping. She is a runaway, she needed money, she didn`t sell her body on the street "at least not in the news story", and she wasn`t robbing people. She did what she could to make money. Instead of spending money trying close the loop hole, perhaps they should spend the money on getting high risk girls from needing to strip in the first place.

Did you ever notice it`s only ugly women want to ban stripping and pornography.
Stripping does not put woman at risk for sexual assault being a woman puts them at risk

"well its not that bad in england your allowed to have sex at 16"

Yes, but you`re not allowed to see anything explicitly sexual until you`re 18. So you can have sex, but only if you keep your eyes closed.

You have to be 18 to be allowed to do any sex work, too. So you can hold orgies daily (as long as you keep your eyes closed), but you can`t do a striptease for money.

UK law is a mishmash of laws that don`t necessarily make much sense together.

It actually WAS legal until last week. There is legislature in the works, but as of now all club owners have agreed to sign promise letters not to hire minors. BTW, this state fast becoming a major sh*thole.
