Holy poo! I would watch that!
"In Buzkashi, a headless carcass is placed in the center of a circle and surrounded by the players of two opposing teams. The object of the game, is to get control of the carcass and bring it to the scoring area. Although it seems like a simple task, it is not. Only the most masterful players, (called chapandaz) ever even get close to the carcass. The competition is fierce, and the winner of a match receives prizes that have been donated by a sponsor. These prizes range from money, to fine turbans and clothes."
Kicking around a headless carcass AND getting a free turban? Move over soccer!!!!
Say that in Brazil or Argentina and youll be dead!
"Deserves respect"? WTH.
Well spoken sir. Americans still have to learn that American Football is actually second to FOOTBALL. And rugby, for that matter.
i`ve been fortunate enough to travel to many different countries around the world and pretty much everyone knows what football/soccer is...try mentioning american football to some and they`ll look at you like you were crazy...
...that headbutt was pretty freakin` lame though...
your just jealous cos england are better than cuba
ok Prime, Central America doesn`t plat football...wrong there, Mexico are ranked 26th in the world. Asia? are you kidding me, the K-league in Korea and the J-League in Japan are two of the best supported leagues in the world- Korea and Japan hosted the 2002 world cup.And saying Africa doesn`t play football is just stupid, some of the worlds best players come from Africa - Eto`o, Drogba, Essien etc. and the African Cup of Nations is one of the most popular international competitions. in fact the 2010 world cup is being held in Africa.
Basketball and Football are miles ahead of any other sport in terms of international recognition but i think football is still the more popular of the 2
As it became a major sport the name football stuck, as it does in Britain for Association football.
It is still a good sport ruined by stopping and starting, if it was all one continuous match akin to Rugby, it would be better. In fact they used to show the highlights of some games over here in britain where they took out most of the stoppages and it was quite good.
Oh, and football is without doubt the worlds most popular sport, personally I prefer Rugby Union, but you can`t win `em all!
As each school still played its own traditional version that was called Eton Football, Stonyhurst Football, Harrow Football, etc, one school had Rugby Football. It happens that Rugby Football for some reason took off as a sport in it`s own right (there is an apocraphyl story of a chap named William Webb-Ellis picking up the ball and running with it). The school of Rugby settled ont he rules and the other public schools joined in, it was then naturally transported to the Army and Navy (the army v navy match is the longest running match I beleive) and taken to the colonies.
anyone who knows anything about the world recognizes that football is the most popular sport in the world
and sean162....fat america? really now? how about you shut the hell up and not generalize an entire population based on the bullpoo you gobble up?or is that just how it is over in arrogant douchebag Europe?its called football because rugby is taken from the original football, and american football (technically called gridiron) is taken from rugby...still doesnt make much sense to use the name but...whatever
this is probably going to open up a huge american football bashing just by mentioning it but...whatever, if it gives you the smug sense of superiority it seems you folks love so much, then so be it i guess
American Rugy is called football in the US.English Football is called soccer in the US.
And why do you yanks call your sport football anyway, exactly when do you use your feet?
just because its popular in america doenst make it popular everywhere else.like u americans having a world series in baseball with only teams from america.makes sense :s
That never happens with basketball though.. truly a world sport!
Btw, the total audience for the 2002 world cup final was over 1 billion viewers!!! But I`m sure the other 5 billion were watching basketball that day!
Nice first post there buddy. Now we know what we have to look forward to. B-|
No, this is why soccer doesn`t deserve the respect it gets.
The US doesn`t really play soccer? The Dynamo, Houston`s major league soccer team would like to have a word with you. Yes we do play it, it`s just not our national sport like it is in MOST of the world. So in conclusion your basketball answer is way wrongo.
A coincidence, yes. Relevance, not in the least. I don`t quite understand what you`re getting at. Anyway, I was expecting a Zidane-type head butt...I was dissapointed...and greatly humored at the same time lol.

How come the people who whine about reposts are usually the ones who have never actually contributed anything to the site?
p.s. Prime, basketball a bigger sport internationally than football? Are you drunk again?
That is le bullpoo. In most carribean and central american nations it isnt that popular. There aren`t huge inroads in Africa yet. Honestly...the only sport that can make a case for being a worldwide sport is basketball.
I was watching Cash Cab the other day and there was a question about soccer. The contestant had no clue and said "Who watches soccer?" Ben Bailey replied "The rest of the world."
You know there is an entire world outside of America where soccer is the number 1 sport. Still, it is full of little girls like this. :P
