first of all, how is "web 2.0" a word? It`s not one word, as it contains 2 numbers and a decimal point. I am of the opinion that the English language has deteriorated over the years. When words such as "doh" and "noob" are considered to be actual words, there`s a problem. I was reading TIME magazine the other day and saw the term "could have" written as "could of". Seriously--are we really that dumb as a species? Are we devolving? And for those of you who don`t know: there is a major difference between "their", "there", and "they`re", and between "your" and "you`re".

@ MisuriX: a little piece of my soul died when I read your comment ;) ;)

I have a couple good friends who are English majors in college, and they are almost on the verge of not reading magazines anymore. It`s such a shame that we do not speak or write proper English anymore. I understand that some people are phonetic spellers, but "could of" just goes too far and makes the writer look like a dumbass.

I have to agree with the detractors on this. This isn`t a word. At least not yet. If you start throwing everything people say, into the dictionary as a word, I`m sure we would have surpassed a few million by now.

Web 2.0 isn`t a word! 2.0 has long been used as a way to describe new technology, and web has long been the web! I don`t think their combination should count as anything worthy of a word.

I`m guessing n00b, spelled with two zeroes, is one of the words they decided was pending, instead of the word noob. Still, I would think that even n00b would have been used more times than that.

I seriously think the English language is going downhill. Web 2.0? Seriously? Weren`t there rules to the English language? Isn`t that why there`s an ENGLISH class???

haha with the amount of gamers + blogs and website outside of games etc, how could n00b be trumped by Web 2.0? n00b was probably used 25000 times in a single day of WoW, GW etc...

i agree with lynea and RedAftrshock and Gexxo...this is retarded....there is no way..."web 2.0" was used more than n00b...i have never even heard of it!!

Global Language Monitor (GLM) searches the internet for newly coined terms, and once a word or phrase has been used 25,000 times, it recognises it.

This is utter BS, obviously done to promote Web 2. "Noob" would be used 100 times more often than "Web 2". So everyone on IAB, let`s all post "GLM are bullsh*t liars" 25,000 times so they get the message!!

The funny thing is that it is based in Texas. I`m a Texan actually but I think it`s ironic because we have very bad speach problems here. According to the north.

Don`t get me wrong, I like English, but pronunciation is a pain since there is definite rule, every word in the dictionary has its pronunciation next to it. a pain in the ass really. anyways, if GLM is recognized, the English language will die...Well not really but school essays are going to suck. imagine an essay with "l33t speak" that gets an A marking.

- A U.S. web monitoring firm has declared the official millionth English word.
.....damn its only the measly web 2.0

> am doing my part lionheart, but i think it should go together so its a "Word"

Oh I see, like "Web 2.0" is all one word???

Here`s a clue for the dickholes at GLM: Words do not contain numbers, spaces, or punctuation. This little turd of a "word" contains all three!

What about web 2.0?
