It`s not even a word, but I`d still rather have that than something with "Obama" in it

Don`t get me wrong, I like English, but pronunciation is a pain since there is definite rule, every word in the dictionary has its pronunciation next to it. a pain in the ass really. anyways, if GLM is recognized, the English language will die...Well not really but school essays are going to suck. imagine an essay with "l33t speak" that gets an A marking.

N00b is "only mainstream English word that contains within itself two numerals"

What about web 2.0?

Honestly since when is 2 a viable letter? Grammar nazis are going to have a feild day with this one if their heads don`t explode from outrage first.

What a load of putrid stinking poo. "Web 2.0" isn`t a new word. It`s an old word plus an even older number.

Here`s a clue for the dickholes at GLM: Words do not contain numbers, spaces, or punctuation. This little turd of a "word" contains all three!

The funny thing is that it is based in Texas. I`m a Texan actually but I think it`s ironic because we have very bad speach problems here. According to the north.
Global Language Monitor (GLM) searches the internet for newly coined terms, and once a word or phrase has been used 25,000 times, it recognises it.
This is utter BS, obviously done to promote Web 2. "Noob" would be used 100 times more often than "Web 2". So everyone on IAB, let`s all post "GLM are bullsh*t liars" 25,000 times so they get the message!!

GLM are bullsh*t liars
GLM are bullsh*t liars
GLM are bullsh*t liars
GLM are bullsh*t liars
GLM are bullsh*t liars

24,994 times to go... someone take over...

I`m guessing n00b, spelled with two zeroes, is one of the words they decided was pending, instead of the word noob. Still, I would think that even n00b would have been used more times than that.

Web 2.0 isn`t a word! 2.0 has long been used as a way to describe new technology, and web has long been the web! I don`t think their combination should count as anything worthy of a word.

I have to agree with the detractors on this. This isn`t a word. At least not yet. If you start throwing everything people say, into the dictionary as a word, I`m sure we would have surpassed a few million by now.
0
Reply
Female 187
Which makes it no longer a word...right?

Male 358
But, web is already a word in the dictionary.
All they did was add a number to it.

@ MisuriX: a little piece of my soul died when I read your comment ;) ;)

I have a couple good friends who are English majors in college, and they are almost on the verge of not reading magazines anymore. It`s such a shame that we do not speak or write proper English anymore. I understand that some people are phonetic spellers, but "could of" just goes too far and makes the writer look like a dumbass.

Web 2.0 is not a word, d`oh & n00b I think should be, because they`re definitions are both instantly recognized. grrl? no, just my opinion

first of all, how is "web 2.0" a word? It`s not one word, as it contains 2 numbers and a decimal point. I am of the opinion that the English language has deteriorated over the years. When words such as "doh" and "noob" are considered to be actual words, there`s a problem. I was reading TIME magazine the other day and saw the term "could have" written as "could of". Seriously--are we really that dumb as a species? Are we devolving? And for those of you who don`t know: there is a major difference between "their", "there", and "they`re", and between "your" and "you`re".
