Those are on my `do they exist or not` list, somewhere between UFOs and bigfoot.

Reasonable Christians have enough trouble disassociating themselves with the radicals who actually believe the stuff that comes out of their mouth. We don`t need pretenders to make it even harder. I suppose EA`s admitted they orchestrated it and so that`s not an issue anymore, but still.

It`s unethical. Not the poking fun at religious groups, people`re doing that already. That`s nothing new. But they were representing the opinions of a group of people... when they wren`t part of that group. It`s like if I dressed up like a Muslim and start making stuff up about what Muslims believe and think, and say radical stuff, and people look at me and they think, "Those Muslims are nuts." But I`m not muslim and I don`t believe in Islam doctrine. If I wanted to make fun of muslims, (which I don`t), I should at least have the guts to be honest about who I am instead of pretending to be them and misrepresentign them. I udnerstand it was a marketing tactic and prolly not intended to insult anyone, but it was a pretty low and unethical one.

i dont see it as making fun of them... its more like `when something gets banned, it becomes more popular once (inevitably) being released`

similar when something is protested against, so they used that to their advantage.

wrnkldtitfuz...you better get better with your acronyms...because all self respecting gamers know that GOW stands for GEARS of War....not GOD of War...

btw...christians need to get over it....protesting the protesters shouldn`t make them cry...if it does....maybe they shouldn`t protest....

Well, if you think about it, this video game SHAMES the face of Dante. That`s like saying Bush was Jesus, or Hitler was the pope. It`s just shenanigans. The game is an insult to the book, I think Dante should sue. If only, if only.

ah well video games are video games rwar

@TehKitteh, I think it may be innate to fear and/or ridicule that which is different, strange or a threat to the main group`s belief system. One group who is outside the norm or vulnerable often becomes the target of those feelings. The targeted group changes over time, but I think that most of the time there is one. Those who don`t get involved are winning the battle against nature. Luckily, that group is getting larger.

"If ganging up on groups WERE in our nature, you`d find it in all cultures...which you don`t."

I`m no expert, but I`m almost positive that throughout history and cultures, one group or another has been singled out and treated differently than everyone else. Whether it be because of race, religion, physical appearance, ethnicity, tribal affiliation, intellect, income...The examples are too numerous to mention. Right now, in our micro IAB culture, it just so happens to be mainly Christians and Southerners who find themselves the subject of ridicule. Not saying it`s right or wrong, just saying.

How is ganging up on certain groups human nature?? It`s purely cultural and is certainly not found everywhere. If ganging up on groups WERE in our nature, you`d find it in all cultures...which you don`t.

Baalthazaq, you are completely right. If people were making fun of something they believed in they`d get pissed off about it. Of course, they would never admit it, but they`d be offended. It`s human nature, but it`s also human nature to gang up on certain groups when it seems acceptable and most people here are more than willing.

"Of course its alright"
Etc.

@ Baalthazaq: People have a right to do whatever they want, as long as they`re prepared to accept the consequences for their actions. EA had every right to stage a protest and poke fun at Christian fundamentalists, but now they need to deal with the backlash.

No one is saying it`s okay to do what EA did, all we`re saying is that because of the stunt, "Dante`s Inferno" got the attention the company wanted.

Chill out.

So, if I were to hire a bunch of fake atheists, to pretend to be atheists, and to do things that make atheists look bad, that would be ok?

Morally speaking I mean.

And you`d have no problems?

Well great, except of course the tremendous pile of bullpoo that is. You would be more than offended. You`d be in here as soon as the link "outing" it got posted whining about the religious right.

Instantly.

Frigging hypocrites.

This EA stunt was on one hand pathetic and low, but on the other hand, it was brilliant. Some people think any attention is good attention, and this "protest" definitely got people to pay attention.

EA may have been playing on the idea that people will be more likely to play a game if they think it`s somehow taboo or "forbidden"; it adds to the excitement (and the graphics looked pretty darn amazing, if you ask me). Whatever their motive, it probably worked.

You have to understand what they are doing here
You think its some antichristian thing
This is a marketing campaign
They are doing it so they can get free publicity for the game as exemplified above
Then more people know about it and more people buy it
Simple advertising strategies really

First they ruin Spore with their DRM restrictions, now this? No thanks.

Woah, nice way to rape a 500 year old poem, EA. When did Dante became an ass kciking machine? Last time I checked he was a philosopher/writer of some sort. The sad part is the game actually looks ok, I just wish they didn`t have to rape a poem to create it. Coming up next: Romeus the Destroyer and the Curse of the Capulets.

I don`t see the problem. People are always quick to attack a company, without taking into consideration it`s not new. Companies have been doing this sort of thing for years. Some of which have been worse than this.

Sure are a lot of complainers these days. Every other week you hear of a very minor thing on T.V, nothing terrible.

Some however take it far too seriously and phone in to complain. Shame they have nothing better to do.

Yes, that IS completely wrong. Hell is not cold, it is a real place and is all flames, where those who reject God`s message of salvation are doomed to spend eternity being burning in unrelenting agony with no relief.
