That`s a funny ass sign and anyone who would key his car because of it is either actually on welfare or some uppity liberal coward (anyone who keys cars is a coward) who can`t take a good joke.

Well, if he lost his job, he probably wouldn`t go on welfare. He`d probably use his savings to hold him over while he searched for a new job. It probably wouldn`t take him long because of his long work history.

Fun fact I picked up from my sociology textbook last term. The myth stated was that "most people on welfare are lazy and looking for a handout. They could work if they wanted to" and the truth is that "Most people on welfare are children, the old, the sick, the mentally and physically handicapped, or young mothers with few skills. Less than 2 percent fit the stereotype of an able-bodied man" The book is called Sociology: A Down-to-earth approach, ninth edition.
It was also mentioned that welfare only makes up 25 percent the income of someone who`s on it.
So the whole anti-welfare stereotype is pretty much shattered these days, and therefore this guy is just left looking like an a**hole.

I don`t know if you`re serious or not, but if you are...you`re completely wrong.
I know several people (including my mom) who just lost their jobs due to layoffs. My mom is a CT with over 20 years of experience and, despite searching everyday for a job for 4 months now, has not gotten one job offer. She is either too `overqualified` or too `old`.

A round of applause to PyroX7 for having common sense!

I worked for 16 years, paid my taxes and asked for nothing. I lost my job through redundancies and had and got into to some small time buying and selling to make ends meet.Fortunetly I was lucky enough to find new employment before the current "economic crisis". I never claimed anything but I was lucky enough to be in a position to not have too. Not everyone is that fortunet.Considering people are losing their jobs through no fault of their own at the moment, this guy just comes off as an a$$. I dont dispute there are people who wont work out there, but it`s not fair or right to assume everyone who claims state benefits are lazy!

feiku, I wasn`t being serious. I got laid-off myself and have had trouble getting a job. Notice that I`m on IAB way too much. I was just pointing out that getting laid-off doesn`t lead to welfare. Perhaps someone may collect unemployment (I never have) for a while, but that`s a little different b/c it`s short-term and you have to prove you`re looking for a job.

So, my mine point was that welfare isn`t for people who get laid-off. It`s for people who, through their own fault or not, have no intention of working anytime soon.

I always like to think that I`d be liberal if we lived in a perfect world. Welfare is a great idea. But, like everything else, a few who cheat the system ruin it for everyone. I`m all for allowing whoever wants to immigrate to come on over and join the party. But, again, a few who want to come over for not so good reasons, ruin it for everyone. It`s sad that a few bad apples ruin the bunch, but that`s the way it is. Stupid reactionary society.

I allways felt that there is a simple solution to the whole "welfare" issue. there are allways going to be people out of work and there are allways going to be those who try to work the system.
Considering we all live in towns and citys that have litter and graffitti problems, why not make those who are able too, clean up for 10 hours a week? Let them live on benefits but at least give a little something back. If they are not able (for health reasons for example) then obviously they need to be on benefits anyway! 10 hours isnt much to ask as long as it dosnt interfere with with someone acctually getting a job!

Maddog, you stole my idea for when I become homeless. I was planning on picking out my corner or street and making it my job to keep it spotless. That way, people will be giving me money for providing a service, not just giving me handouts.

Plus, we`ve already kind of done that through the WPA during the Great Depression.

I am in the middle on welfare despite being liberal. Even though it is a good idea, I think there should be a timeline on how long one should be on so they have some money while looking for a job that they will hopefully like and move up on.

Maddog: That`s actually an awesome idea.

In the UK, I think the system is that you can get jobseekers` allowance for a certain lenth of time, but if after a while you still don`t have a job then you have to do volunteer work somewhere. Like, to prove that you`re willing to work. I think.

Why can`t everyone be on welfare? Then no-one would have to pay taxes, parents could spend time with their kids, no-one would want to attack your country because there was nothing worth taking, and you`d have all day to post on i-am-bored.

Of course, every family would average 10 kids with IQ`s of less than 30, getting pregnant at 13... but hey you can`t have everything.

    "The book is called Sociology:"

Sociology...pfft. The point is that they are getting paid to not do work. If my mom gets fired today and gets welfare, after college expenses and all that other fun stuff, we`d actually make more than she currently does.

"Considering we all live in towns and citys that have litter and graffitti problems, why not make those who are able too, clean up for 10 hours a week?"

Me and my other conservative friend were talking about this, and it makes sense. It wouldnt be welfare as much as actual work for the community. Although I disagree with the 10 hours and think it should be higher. Thats less than 2 hours a day.

"Considering its the REPUBLICANS we`ve seen in power over the last decade that are responsible for the fall of the economy"

/me facepalms. Now whats the reason for this economic situation? Easy, the housing crisis. What was the problem? Too many bad loans. Why were there so many bad loans? Banks had a low Interest Rate. Who is in charge of interest rates? The Fed. Who was the head of the Fed? Greenspan. Who nominated Greenspan? CLinton. Why did Greenspan keep the Interest rates low? He believed that every american should own a home. This is the fault of Greenspan, who happens to be a liberal.

--"I don`t know, because I`ve never met one."

LOL. It reminds me of something I heard on the radio once. Someone asked why is that so many liberals protest anything and everything so well whereas it`s rare to see a conservative public protest of something. The answer was while the liberals are all out doing their protest, the conservatives are actually out working in their jobs, running businesses, and actually DOING something to make society better rather than sit and whine about it.

While I agree that greenspan could be blamed, you can play that game anyway you want to. Like for example, who did greenspan have to get approved by? Oh yeah, Congress, what party was the majority during the Clinton admin? Republicans.

Also who drew up, approved and attached the whole subprime loan addendum to a bill as a side project to get in under clinton`s nose (like most bills are done, with either party)? The republican majority congress.

Then you could go down the list on what party affiliation Freddie Mac and Fannie May are, etc etc.

But if you want to bring up other points along the economy associated with administrations, the clinton admin oversaw the largest economic boom in American history, and the lowest number of people using federal aid in 35 years, as well as lowering the deficit to a fraction of anything G.W.Bush could dream of (the father wasn`t as bad as the son).

To be fair...that had more to do with Gates than with Clinton.

"I appreciate the approach you`re trying to take, but there are too many variables to attempt to blame it indisputably on one party or the other. "

True, I just don`t understand how you can blame it all on one party. I`m placing the majority of the blame on Greenspan regardless of whatever party he is in.

"LOL. It reminds me of something I heard on the radio once. Someone asked why is that so many liberals protest anything and everything so well whereas it`s rare to see a conservative public protest of something. The answer was while the liberals are all out doing their protest, the conservatives are actually out working in their jobs, running businesses, and actually DOING something to make society better rather than sit and whine about it."

    ----------------

I`ve heard that argument before, and from my experience it tends to be true. And I also find it ironic that while liberals think nothing of screaming in protest over the the stupidest things, the tea parties this year were called ridiculous and overblown. REALLY? More proof that these people are hypocrites.

cleminem9919, I completely agree. I work at gas station/convenience store, and we take food stamps.
Well, the only thing I ever see people using them for is snacks. Chips, soda, Candy. We sell things like bread, cheese, milk, and butter, but they wont use it for that.
To make matters worse, they will use ((and this is ALL races)) their EBT ((food stamp)) card to buy all this bullpoo, tell their kid, "I dont have 2 quarters for you to get a sticker", and then pull out a $100 bill to buy a pack of ciagarettes and a 6 pack.
Frankly, I love this car and its slogan.

Sure, everyone can`t be on welfare, but for some families it`s the only thing keeping them alive and off the streets.

Oh yeah, if he ever drives through a bad neighborhood, his car is toast. Especially since it looks like a gas guzzler (big box van), so it represents "the man" even more. It`s going to either get totaled or stolen.

I believe there is a need for republicans and democrats, it keeps a balance to our politics. I don`t think of myself as either; although, I tend to find that almost all the republicans in the midwest are close minded, have come from families that never really had money issues, and they tend to be racists. Of course that`s in the midwest.

Also, there are a lot of retarded democrats out there.

You all have to realize that your government system is broken and it has been broken for many decades. You have no say in this false democracy. We are no better that Iran. We are no better than any fascist dictatorship the only thing we have is the illusion of choice. There is no point in bickering about who is on the best side because you all lose. You are all evil in your own special way. America The land of the free? You cannot actually believe that? What a waste. There is no freedom period. Everyone is a slave to something. Most are slaves to there ideals.

Sounds about right, republicans sit around and see which one is the better BSer while the dems actually do something. (luckily enough the revolutionists that formed America were liberal) If they were conservative they would have tried to talk their way through it, and been subsequently shot in the effort.

But I would be wrong if I said all republicans did is bs one another, they also blame anyone but themselves.

Grammar fail on that slogan. The "not" inside the "can`t" modifies the "be", not the "everyone".

So the slogan is really implying that we could kick everyone off welfare with zero consequences.

why is it that liberals can protest all day about something they feel important but as soon as a conservative says something he feels strongly about hes a "douche",its like a passive aggressive attack on our freedom of speech. also he drives a truck, not an suv, and how does that make you a douche? how do you know its not his work truck, not everyone sits behind a computer, some people actually build things and have physical jobs that require lots of equipment. driving a truck now makes you a douche... huuh....
