How much extra performance do you think these after-market car mods really give these cars?

@BoomBox

A spoiler IS a mod. Mod is short for modification. Those are Modifications.

They`re not really mods, they`re just spoilers. All of them are.

I always wanted to get a crappy car and put a spoiler on it that looked like one from a sprint car.

This is a sprint car:

What part of your brain backfires into thinking it`s okay to make a giant cardboard spoiler to duct tape to the back of your trunk?

Um... Quite a few of these don`t look homemade.

I used to drive a Fusion. It had a small (factory) spoiler on the rear deck lid, and it looked ok. My friend was trying to talk me into putting a spoiler that looked something like # 7 on it. I didn`t, of course, but I don`t understand how stupid some people are willing to make their car look for `performance`, which 9 times out of 10, doesn`t happen.

Factory made/after-market or not, not EVERY car looks good with a spoiler. Only certain cars can pull them off. And none of these are it.

After long and hard brainstorming on #5 my opinion is that the added small wing at the top of the back window creates a small turbulence that lowers the large back wings downforce. The small wing doesn`t even create downforce on its own as it is clearly on the low pressure zone.

So yes, a fail. The large one is part of special model package so that`s original in a sense.

Wow, don`t want to be the one who ruins it with a SPOILER, but they`re all spoilers! I expected a few better efforts than throwing a couple of planks and nails at the back of your car.

These guys can`t seriously think their cars look better now, or go faster... Although the WRX STi-one isn`t too bad. Definitely not as bad as the other stuff on here.

Yeah, I agree with the others. I don`t see why #5 was included here. And what kind of drugs are you on when you think a plywood spoiler is the way to go?

Male 79
i think doors come before spoilers in the order of importance when it comes to moding your car.

Male 1,590
All of these cars were pieces of crap BEFORE the modifications.

Kudos for the paint can exhaust pipe on #3.

Male 4,004
You can still see the one on the back window, and the big spoiler (don`t call it a fin, a spoiler does what it`s supposed to, spoils the car, whereas a fin is on sharks backs...)

Yeah #5 almost looks like a stock Subaru Impreza WRX STI

GUYS, the things thats wrong on the STI isnt the rear spoiler, its the spoiler thats near the top of the rear window, its a tiny one, thats what they are trying to show.
0

Male 22
yeah the spoiler on the sti or #5 is stock not aftermarket
0

Male 3,296
"whats wrong with the STI??"

nothing, they just dont know nothing about aerodinamics and downforce when going around the curve

0
Reply
Male 288
Theres absolutely nothing wrong with the STi. Those are Stabilizers on the wing. Rally status baby! Keeps vibrations down and provides stability in high speeds. People don`t know how tell real cars from the Uber-rice.

Female 408
the fifth one at least looks proper, but it would be funny to see all of these street race

"whats wrong with the STI??"
The two towers in the middle of the spoiler?
0
Reply
Male 1,623
They`re doing it wrong.

Spoilers are supposed to be facing downwards to push the back of the car towards the ground at high speeds for better traction. Many of these seem to be doing the opposite.

for the people who think the spoilers on trucks are stupid you are partially correct. IF they look like these type of spoilers or even the after market bolt on ones then yes they are useless but some spoilers(the ones that slope up and are the full width of the truck) are there probably because they haul huge horse trailers or other types of trailers and its to help reduce the air drag on the flat part of the trailer.

There was nothing wrong with that Subaru. o_O

The back window glide was a little odd for that kind of car, but otherwise the car was fine. Misplaced in the collection.

The rest...BAHAH. People are morons. XD

the fifth ford is not a sports car, the car design is not aerodynamic so the mods are useless and gives to the car a
ugly and dumb look.

I`ve seen spoilers on vans and trucks but they were just slightly less hideous than these.

That`s not saying much though. I think every jacked up spoiler, especially the god-awful carbon fiber ones, are terrible.

LMAO. No poo guys, these cars don`t need spoilers. That`s what makes this hilarious, especially the redneck ones. Probably the Subaru `is` a legit one, it looks like it, but it`s still retarded.

Yeh Subaru main spoiler is legit, although i dont know about the small one at the top of the rear window! Never seen that one before.

The upright sections inside the rear spoiler are a fallout from WRC. They are there to provide increased straight line stability accross loose and bumpy surfaces.

Male 203
The Subaru in pic 5 has a top speed of around 160, it does need a spoiler. Probably not one that big, but still, it`s anomalous here.

you know spoilers slow a car down. the reason they are on race cars is to put drag onto the back and therefore weight on the rear of the car and allow it to take corners faster, otherwise they bounce around. every spoiler on a street car is pointless its just there to make it look better
