As far as the idea of Hispanic or Latino conquest of the south western states, It will not happen. By the time enough generations of Hispanics have propagated to have a majority, they will no longer be Hispanic, they will be American.
Most of the Latino kids I know hardly speak Spanish, they certainly aren`t planning to teach it to their children, they are attending schools speaking English, working at jobs speaking English and they are sharing in predominantly European cultural values.
My primary concern with an influx of Mexican or Latino people is this, you can see the current condition of their countries of Origin, do they want to escape that and participate in a much better lifestyle here, or is the plan to make America a s#it stew like Mexico?
I can`t guess why people would want to escape misery only to bring it with them, but from the influx of drugs and gangs, it looks to be the case.
So...based upon that fact alone, and forgetting Tancredo...I know she`s a bad choice.
If anyone is interested:National Council of La Raza is a civil right`s group. Judge for yourself at http://www.nclr.org/
OldOllie, that comment insulted someone that made a brash comment without thinking of the repercussions of her statement.
Or how the kids say today...OldOllie, WIN!
I didn`t imply it, I said it directly. Also, reverse racism would be taking racism away and making it nonexistent, thus reversing the racism. Racism is racism no matter which races are involved.
------------So you`re implying that an organization for the advancement of white people would not be considered racist? Seriously? There would be rioting in the streets and Al Sharpton would be working overtime. Reverse racism is real, and people are simply taking Ms. Sotomayor to task on it. Nothing wrong with that. She DID make a racist remark.
All these so-called moderate Republicans are saying they should take the high road. Well, answer me this: When has taking the high road ever helped the Republicans, and when had taking the low road ever hurt the Democrats?
Americans, its not mexican."2) WHO was the first hispanic person to hispanise on the good ship `The Hispaniola` in 1884 HP??"
"3) WHOM is the famous hispanic biologist whose middle name you can create from the first five letters of the word `Latino`???"
"Replace Latino families with white families. Then it becomes racist, correct?"Nope. There are many ways to strengthen America and advancing white families would also be a way, the motto isn`t saying that advancing Latino families is the only thing that strengthens America. That group just happens to focus on Latino families which isn`t a problem. You can`t expect one group to solve the problems of every group.Once again, morons trying to take things out of context and twist things around to make her seem racist. The ones who do this are mainly the ones that are extremely racist in the first place (i.e. Rush). They must find everything they can wrong with the woman because they don`t like her race.
Replace Latino families with white families. Then it becomes racist, correct? Exactly. In a truly race-equal society, race based organizations and affirmative action do not exist. The creation of any race-based organization is, by definition, racist, because it is aiming to advance one race over the other.
An truly neutral and non-bias organization that looks out for racial equality (of all races), for example, would NOT be racist.
There`s a difference.
1) WHAT is the name of the inventor of the burrito?2) WHO was the first hispanic person to hispanise on the good ship `The Hispaniola` in 1884 HP??3) WHOM is the famous hispanic biologist whose middle name you can create from the first five letters of the word `Latino`???
Yours truly, The bridge guardian.
Well I`m hispanic...and I`m considerably better than any other human being, you would see why she would make that distinction
Just do a google search on it.
“I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.â€
This was part of a speech a long time ago. It does sound a little racist unless you actually consider what she meant by it.
I think this is a case of Conservatives seeing someone "Different" and liberal as a potential nominee, and are fishing for things to attack her with.
This is like an attention-deprived cop trying to get a random jaywalker charged with attempted murder and crimes against humanity. They`re making mountains out of molehills.
This statement ANNOYS me more than anything else because what she`s doing is playing the race CARD by using, as a reference-point, the straw-man her and her ilk have established: Omnipotent White-Male Oppressor.
In a world where whites are given privilege, she would hope that DESPITE that privilege a Latino women with MORE experience would do better than a `preferred` variety (gender, ethnicity) with less.
However, by making this statement she`s really devaluing the ACTUAL discrimination which has plagued her people`s (and other`s) history in the past; more than anything, I feel its an exaggerated statement with meager contemporary relevance.
I gotta say...thats somewhat racist. "Reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn`t lived that life", implies that hispanics have the ability to offer better decision than white people. Now I`m not saying she is Latino KKK, but if she was running for office, that will piss off a lot of voters
We need to hold every group to the same standards. To have different standards for different races is racism and discrimination. Maybe some of you people are ok with that, but I`m not.
She did not say that being a latino woman would make her a better judge than a white man. She said that her personal experiences could either help or hinder her, and by learning from them a latino woman could be in a better position to serve the bench than a white man who did not have experiences that gave him a dynamic perspective of the law.
You`re basically spouting nonsense conservative talking points that were derived from taking statements out of context.
Also, "La Raza" is a term that means "The Cosmic Race", coined by Mexican writer José Vasconcelos in 1925. It is meant to be a term to denote pride and dignity for Hispanic origins. And the National Council of La Raza is a non-partisan Civil Rights Group!
She`s not a racist. That`s not "Marxist *newspeak*," that`s logic. Marx has nothing to do with it.
Do some research, you insipid ignoramus.
I love how Republicans always imagine that Orwell is on their side. I`m not a socialist and I think he was wrong about socialism being the correct alternative to fascism, but the GOP should be fully aware that Orwell would never have associated with them.
