I"m not sure whether this is poo-inducing scary or magnificently awesome.

It looks cool but I don`t see what`s so scary about it. It`s a big freaking jellyfish. End of story. Yeah, I don`t know if I`d want to swim with it but I wouldn`t want to swim with most things in the ocean.

how can different single celled organisms make up different parts of an organism. Some of those cells have to be specifically made to form a different part.

Don`t worry about the weird pr0n. They`ve already done that. And btw this almost completely harmless. The tentacles are basically little tiny organisms. And they filter feed.

The Siphonophore are actually a community of different single organism called "Zoids" that work together as a single being, each individual has a specific task, for instance some are in charge of move the colony, others to capture the food, others to process it and so on. The Zoids cannot live by themselves.

Sorta creepy, especially when you think about how odd it is, and consider things like the Bloop right after it.

I`ve laid down good money that the Bloop is non-organic in origin. These deep-sea organisms aren`t exactly known for being chatty.

unfortunately, Siphonophores are a class of marine invertebrates and are colonial, but the colonies can superficially resemble jellyfish; although they appear to be a single organism, each specimen is actually a colony of Siphonophora. The best known species is the dangerous Portuguese Man o` War.

so basically, thats not one organism, but a colony of Siphonohores

Oddest looking creatures on this World (Plant or Animal)

A Fangtooth (anoplogaster cornuta), or ogrefish, dwells in tropical and cold-temperate marine water worldwide, particularly the waters off the coast of Australia… the waters off Australia seem to teem with all kinds of monsters. It may be ferocious-looking, but it’s actually quite small - a maximum length of 17cm.

Yep, I was right. They belong to the family Cnidaria, which, as you may now guess, includes the likes of the Portuguese Man O` War (also a siphonophore), and other true jellyfish. So my bet is, that thing can sting the holy bejesus out of you.

Whoa. That`s rather large, unless that camera is microscopic, which I doubt. And those were coiled tendrils there. Does that mean jellyfish-like? Cuz if so.... yeesh. Obviously those brown-tipped ones were the mouth parts, which gave the creature it`s delightful name... Wow. Sorta creepy, especially when you think about how odd it is, and consider things like the Bloop right after it.

Things like this are precisely why contemplating whats in the sea terrifies me. Its so unknown and untraveled. Almost like another planet. Really this is very very cool. But so very very creepy. You never know what to do when you encounter it because underwater is their domain not yours. And I think thats whats so scary.

If those tentacles sting then it`s the former. If not, it`s the latter. But, how big is it anyway? I mean, if those are microscopic bits of food suspended there, then it could be no more than say, 30 inches long.

It`s huge, it`s magnificent, and I`m never going to touch it.

Creatures with tentacles and stringy appendages usually have poisonous barbs or stingers, and at those depths anything goes.

Hmm nothing in the shot to give it scale, but I think the only reason you need fear it is if you swim around in very deep water in a pressure suit, not looking where you are going, which seems unlikely. So go with awesome.
