i SWEAR that is the FIRST and ONLY Disney 2D movie that features a black girl...
my how weve changed
But she basically took the words from my mouth.
For Christ`s sake Aladdin had a pop-culture comedian Genie.
I know this was still done on computers, and the story does not appeal to me that much, but I still look forward to it.
Oh and I love that you people are making a big deal out of the fact that she`s black. You make me laugh.
When that woman talked in that modern "girl with attitude" style with her hand on her hip in a woman from the getto style, well it`s just not like a princess! I am going to watch it but it made me dout with that "Excuse me" with raised eyebrow thing at 1:11.
is this set in New Orleans? Lolol. I doubt there was ever royalty in New Orleans.
They went across town in Orlando and formed their own company... have not heard from them since...wonder if Disney asked them back...
...are you effing kidding me??trailer doesnt look promising at all..even if i were 6
I`m a big Disney fan, it looks cute, but I don`t think I`ll be seeing this one..
And if you want to get technical with the Disney Princesses..
Atta-A Bug`s Life(1998)Keidagakash/Keida-Atlantis(1991)Melody-The Little Mermaid 2(2000)(Ariel`s Daughter)Nancy-Enchanted(2007)(Giselle is not a Princess, she ends up with Robert, not Prince Edward. Nancy is the one that marries Edward)
THEN: Tiana-Princess & the Frog (2009)..
On a kinder note, this does look very good. When it comes to cartoons, Disney`s have been awesome, except Beauty and the Beast, oh and A Lion King, both sucked...
1995: Pocahontas (Native American)1998: Mulan (Asian)2009: Black girl
Looks cute though.
I am a 20 year old guy who can often be seen wearing metal band shirts and a leather jacket but dammit I will go and see that film at the cinema. I still love the Disney films.
I adore useless trivia.
I`m also slightly loopy in that I like my useless trivia properly cited and sourced.
Looks like this movie might go back to the good ole days.
except for Mulan, Lion King (set in Africa!), Pocahontas and technically Little Mermaid is set in the Ocean...not counting all of Disney`s 3D movies :)
the sad part is that she is being serious
It`s funny to me when people describe non-American black people as African American because it seems politically correct, even though it`s factually incorrect."
@Old Ollie, your "correction" to my comment is hilarious because the move is set in New Orleans and the princess is actually an African American waitress. So yes, she`s technically not "royalty" but she`ll be depicted as one since she`s the main character.
And she wasn`t even native-american! Look at her, she`s asian.
She came after: Beauty and the Beast, Snow White, The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty.
Technically though, you could count Nala as an African princess....
Also: Lesotho, Morocco, Swaziland, Canary Islands, Cuerta, Melilla, Zululand, Ashanti, Barotseland, Buganda, Bunyoro, Kano, Kanongesha-Lunda, and Toro, are just some of the current monarchies with black princesses in Africa, not counting descendants of previous monarchies and whatnot.
As for "in New Orleans", Disney likes to be Americacentric. Where even in Aladdin they managed to find the most caucasian looking Arab to play the hero, and the "ethnic" look was reserved for the baddies.
Thus they may be basing this new princess on the black princess in Russia but Americanizing it.
Doesn`t help explain why there`s a princess in New Orleans, but hey, the prince is from Maldonia, and they magically turn into frogs, so who gives a crap there`s a princess from New Orleans.
Uh, there never were any African American princesses. Maybe African African princesses, or African Asian princesses, or maybe even African European princesses, but America was never a monarchy, so we never had any American princesses except perhaps Native American princesses.
It`s funny to me when people describe non-American black people as African American because it seems politically correct, even though it`s factually incorrect.
1) Princess doesn`t love the prince, so she won`t be happy as a frog unlike Fiona2) Ogres, at least, have opposable thumbs3) Ogres are humanoid, frogs are amphibians.
Oh and I`m lovin` the accents.
BTW this has already been previously hyped point about this movie having the first african-american (the accent makes her american) Disney Princess in the series. Which is personally quite interesting given there`s already an Arab princess, a Native American princess, and a Chinese Princess.
Their first princess was white. She was white as could be.Her name was even freakin` SNOW WHITE...
You must never have seen a pixar movie.
nah that was the first thing i thought...although their FIRST princess was an arab...
Do you have like a severe case of ADD? Pay attention to the trailer.
Most (if not all) of Disney`s classic 2D animations were based on old stories...
This could be fun >.> Especially the gay princess.... >> << >>
But you know what this means? That now they`ll have to make a disabled princess, a gay princess, a little person princess... IT`S A SLIPPERY SLOPE, PEOPLE!
... other than Reggie Bush.
I have to say it`s great to see they`re even trying. It`s been a while.
