Not as sick as the title implies, because he must`ve seen the cushion that would catch him, and he wasn`t trying to kill him.

Hmm, well at least the man had enough class to shake his hand before pushing him of the ledge. Some people would have just pushed him. This guy had a plan that knocked the jumper off guard.

After all of the emo-suicidal fools I`ve met on the internet, I tend to agree with Mr. Lai. I`m not sure why, I`m usually a very empathetic person, but I have to give the old guy some credit.

These suicide jumpers just do it for the attention. If they really wanted to off themselves they would take a bottle of pills or something. No, instead they want to make a big scene in the expectations that someone will talk them out of it. Screw that! I`m glad the old guy shoved him off the bridge. That`s what the guy wanted anyway. My only regret is that he didn`t meet his maker.

I`m shocked at some of you here!
You honestly think Lai Jiansheng was in the right?
He`s a murderous old fart is what he is!
The guy he pushed suffered injuries. He could only hope the guy landed on the mat!
The non-nice individual has the nerve to say

"They do not really dare to kill themselves. Instead, they just want to raise the relevant government authorities` attention to their appeals."

yet 11 people have jumped from the bridge since april.

    WTF happened to human empathy?

WTF happened to human empathy? it went right out the window from the moment this guy considered killing himself.

you can look at this two different ways, either you give the jumper the benefit of the doubt and beleive he would have jumped or you beleive that he would have sat there for hours on end wasting everybody`s time.

in the first scenario he would have likely landed on the mat anyway, or died. Second scenario has him not jumping after endless hours of bitching.

as far as im concerned, the jiansheng guy simply pushed him onto the matt and saved everybody a lot of time, and since the jumper couldnt affect his trajectory enough to avoid the matt, he probably saved the jumper`s life too

    "WTF happened to human empathy?"
    ---------------------------------------
Where to even start on that one. Big can of worms. Personally, I feel two major contributors are at work: Overpopulation (we`re expendable not only to the government, but to each-other. Not only that, but we`re competition to each other from standards of living, to employment.)
and automated society (We`re interacting with each other less and less everyday, becoming alienated, and indifferent. These day`s peoples attitudes seem to be: "Benefit me somehow or GTFO of my way." )

As for the jumper, who`s to say if he was serious or not. He felt his situation was dire enough to do something very drastic. Even if he wasn`t serious about jumping, he was willing to ruin his reputation and become subject to all the backlash and critizism that public/open attempted suicide creates. His social suicide was fairly effective.

Well if the safety net was already there, all pushing him does is wrap things up sooner.

Now if he`d pushed the guy and there wasn`t a net there... O.o

    Oh dear addler!

I`m older and wiser than you! I`ve long since learnt how to tune out puberty driven rants!

I never claimed the world revolved around suicidal jumpers.

Imagine you where held up for 5 hours due to a horrific accident, rather than someone attempting to take their own life. Would it be ok to act like an insensitve jerk then?

The facts are, life is weirdier than you can possibly imagine and someday (and it will come to you eventually) you`ll need to recive a little compassion from your fellow man! If we accept one old fart pushing a guy down off his luck today, tomorrow we will accept any sort of horror!

Learn to have a heart and acctually care about something!

Some guy jumped off a building near my University a couple of weeks ago, but he actually died.

Why do people try to kill themselves that way? There`s no guarantee you`ll die; you could end up with a bunch of injuries or paralysis and then you`re stuck in an even crappier life and it`ll be harder to kill yourself because then you`ll be constantly watched or else just too disabled.

    Use a razor people. Jeez.

No one has the right to do what this guy did. This isn`t self defense, or protecting the public or anything justifiable. He was simply pissed off at the "jumper" and wanted to be a smart ass about it. Nothing noble. No great statement. No lessons learned...just a jerk that nearly murdered another human being after shaking his hand.

From the looks of the picture with them both sitting on the bridge, the guy probably could have actually talked him down D:....Maybe he was trying to teach him some sort of crazy twisted lesson? Still, that`s pretty sick. What if the guy had missed the inflated thingy and hit the ground? c.c Murdeeer D:
