see, you all preach about how communism sucks when you base it off of examples like Russia and North Korea. There is no country in the world that is truly communist- you think that Kim Jong ill (idk if thats right at the end) would walk around with a handcart? Stalin working on a farm? No nonono! that poo would never happen,

ehh, once the machienes take over you will really see what communisim is

"And ya free heathcare is great but not being able to say Jesus loves you without being shot isn`t. Communism sucks, no freedom what so ever."

Or Allah loves you, or your wife loves you, exactly right, because Communism is like fertilizer to dictators.

"msieg007: I would say grow up and educate yourself. But as an ignorant redneck I know you won`t.
North Korea is a country that is filled with wealth and power. They are currently building one of the tallest hotels in the world.105 floors. Personally I would love to visit the place sometime. And yes I like the idea of communism (to an extent)having nationalized health care would be great!"

Hahaha, nice (was a joke, right?) :<

I agree that the ideals of communism is wonderful. The problem lies in human nature; greed, etc. It`s a shame that there is no perfect communism (I think)

"kairobert: Here is the problem when the govt. controls production. From a story I remember about Russia. Back in the 80`s, When the Iron curtain was still up, A nail factory manager was told the factory would be paid "per pound" of nails produced. So they only produced the heaviest largest nails they could make to increase the weight. Problem was it`s really hard to hang a picture on the wall with nails that large. So, the govt. changed it`s mind and told the manager they`d pay them "per nail" made. So the factory made the smallest brads and nails it could in order to increase the number of nails made. But you can`t build a house with little nails."

The soviet party consisted of incompetent revolutionary apes. Still, communism, under such poor administration, did more for Russia at that time than the tsarist regime or capitalism could have ever done. It turned a sack of poo into a piece of poo.

"The point is communism or capitalism is neither good or evil. There are upside and downside to both."

states who declare themselves as communist usually have a much larger population of people below the poverty line than those who are capitalist. a government system in itself is neither good nor evil but the people who run them and their intentions are what makes them what they are

A list of communist ideals alive and well in the United States of America. Just to name a few:
1. Affirmative action.
2. Labor unions.
3. Futures \commodity markets.
4. Welfare
6. Low income housing communities.
7. State-funded hospitals.
8. The federal minimum wage.
9. Luxury tax.
The point is communism or capitalism is neither good or evil. There are upside and downside to both.

You ever noticed that anybody who disagrees with America instantly becomes an enemy to the US. And how America does everything in their power to villainize them.
Korea Is actually a beautiful and wondrous place. all the photos we see are taken in the winter and are usually poorer neighborhoods. Where are all the photos of spring wind all the flowers are in bloom or of the nice neighborhoods where everyone has plenty of money to tend to their beautiful homes and Gardens?

CrakrJak, inject even the smallest amount of common sense into your story and the situation wouldn`t be so bad. Couldn`t the government just have specified the size of the nail needed?

I`m just asking questions here.

This is why govt. should stay out of controlling production, It would end disastrously.

One thing is for sure though:

Communism is damn good at producing tanks and rifles.

If they just threw dictatorship out of the mix, maybe communism could produce food and clothing in abundance as well.

Who knows if they actually believe everything they`re told, but they better pretend that they do. If not, they will be crushed.

"Yea, That`s why China and Vietnam and even Cuba are starting to turn away from it. There is no room for Imagination, Innovation or Invention in a society that demonizes profit and private ownership. That results in countries locked in time, They can`t progress."

True, socialism is often misused. But it is not something to look away from. Socialism is about changing way people think. If people are permitted to stomp on other peoples heads to achieve something, no progress in achieving this will be made. Despite this, you don`t need to disregard progress in favor of equality, this was done wrong in the communist states.

North Korea only claims to be communist, it is a dictatorship.

Full blown communism doesn`t work, the gov`t simply can`t control everything. Read "The Road to Serfdom" by Friedrich von Hayek...(to be frank, I haven`t read the whole thing myself lol...but I have read summaries and tidbits)

I actually think stuff like "Capitalism with Chinese Characteristics" i.e authoritarian gov`t, capitalistic economy works, it just sucks for the quality of the life for the ppl, but it makes the country powerful and competitive (i.e China, Russia, those sorts of countries).

Capitalism needs order before it can start; Kairobert: that`s why capitalism can`t succeed within Africa. There`s no order. Libertarians (unlike me) like Hayek and Adam Smith state that gov`t is needed, but only to keep order (I disagree w/ that statement), but everybody agrees that w/out order, capitalism can`t succeed. Authoritarian capitalism thus works (albeit inefficiently), while the African style, f

This was really incredible.
It`s really too bad that one man has the power to control the lives of so many people. Kim Jong Il thinks N. Korea is HIS country, and that means he can dictate the lives of everyone living in that area. that is really sad.
It is still nice to see images of regular people and kids living and playing there.

That being said, N. Korea is definitely NOT communist. its more of a dictatorship.

Almost all the images in this photo album are on the borders...of course there are going to be guns and soldiers.

Completely lopsided page, 1*.

Have you seen pictures of villages in Africa?
A poor nation is a always poor nation, capitalism or not.
Communism has actually never worsened things for a nation, capitalism has, many times.

People think that communism is a system that drats up a country. This is not true, it is drated up countries that have to resort to authoritarian communism, because they have few options other than getting drated in the ass by de-facto-imperialism.

"I feel badly for them, but I know that having stuff doesn`t automatically bring a great deal of happiness so capitalism isn`t necessarily at the top of my list of personal priorities. The things of real value in life aren`t bought."

Capitalism isn`t just ipods, and televisions, it is a stable system, which allows people access to the bare resources. It gives them the opportunity to do well for themselves, rather than the flat planed communism, where a doctor gets paid the same as a factory worker.

Having access to food and water however, that can certainly make life less miserable, I think the greatest loss these people have suffered is their self determination. Their hope and ability to aspire to something better on their own. They are bound to the whim of someone that has demonstrated his apathy toward his people and that is tragic.

I would bet that, given the opportunity, some great artistic expression could originate in North Korea. It`s sad that they`re lead by a man without a soul.

I can see strong undertones of comparing North Korea to the Western world, rest assured, they are very different. This didn`t happen because of apathy, or some emo notion of `the man` oppressing slowly. This was communism, look at South Korea, they are wealthy, stable, and capitalist.

N Korea is more worried about weapons than feeding the people who make the weapons. I guess they think they can threaten to launch nukes at everyone and demand food as a randsom. I bet they think they can also take over the worl.......*
