emily55 just hates when good things happen so she has to point out that it didn`t have to...believe me...if i ever see your anonymous self walking out in front of a bus with you ipod on...i won`t grab you....it`s only your philosophy...people get hit by buses all the time...it`s completely normal human behavior...

Emily 55... ur dumb. 50% of those duckling would have landed on their heads and died. Do you want to be the one to pick up 6 dead ducklings. No? Thats what I thought.

I`m sure nature didn`t intend ducklings to leap twelve feet onto concrete from those elevated nests, kids.

Be smart and snotty about it all you want but concrete sidewalks are somewhat harder than the ground.

Male 112
Note, that that is jumping into a pile of leaves, which are on the ground. That and the fact that is about the same height, maybe slightly taller then the one in that vid.

He didn`t save anything. That`s completely normal duck behaviour. Lots of baby ducks have to jump from trees even higher than that. He`s just interfering. If you don`t believe, watch this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwJQ7w4od...

His intentions were good I`m sure, but mothers in nature know what they`re doing and people should just let them be.

And who else would have thought it funny if when he was talking to the cameras, you see a duckling fall right behind him.

I`m so relieved that I wasn`t the only one who thought of that! But I thought it would be the twist at the end- a horrible catastrophe or something!

But this dude is sooo sweet!

"I think Joel`s legacy is playing out here."

You know, I think it is sweet that the guy took so much time to make sure those ducks were okay, but if that was his legacy...damn.

And who else would have thought it funny if when he was talking to the cameras, you see a duckling fall right behind him.

Thank you, LazyMe! No one else was going to say it. Mind you it`s cute and heartwarming, but there`s way too many of these stories in the news, especially now. It got old a long time ago. Every time I watch the news, I feel like they`re spraying me in the face with their runny discharge.

SoCal I don`t think you really understand genetics and inherited traits.
They jumped off the ledge because that`s what they saw the mother do, and they were following her call. The ducklings don`t know what concrete is and so, are just going to take the risk.
You see all types of hatchling birds jumping to what would be their death, from high nests. Some fly. Some bounce. Its not inherited stupidity. Its just natural.

0
Reply
Male 650
Yeah but this is a clear cut example of survival of the fittest, if he wasnt there those ducks would all be dead due to a really stupid mother duck. Now alive, they are going to mate and there are going to be hundreds of ducklings just like them that are willing to jump off of a ledge because they are too stupid.

Should we TOLERATE news that make us happy? Sure, poo happens all around the world, we know. But, and this might shock you, GOOD THINGS HAPPEN ALL AROUND THE WORLD TOO! What is noted, improves.

But why am I answering a comment from someone who seems to be living for getting ginormous words into his comment and seems to refuse to use everyman terms for simple things; seemingly trying to make the rest of us feel stupid.
(I hope I didn`t shoot myself in the foot there.)

Hm.....he probably couldn`t use the ladder at first because a duckling could have jumped while he was climbing down and/or he could have fallen also.

Either that or he didn`t have a ladder until someone brought him one.

In other news, my Firefox is being quite the douchebag. I have to log into I-A-B every time I close Firefox. I used to be able to turn the entire computer off and it would keep me logged in; and I haven`t changed any of my options (such as clearing authenticated sessions upon shutting down Firefox, or disabled cookies) and I really can`t figure out why it`s being a douche....

Kinda annoying.

Heh, we had a similar situation on our campus. A mother duck led her ducklings over a sewer grate and while she passed over all the others fell through. Some of the university physical plant workers saw the event and gathered up all of the ducklings.

Man, either ducks are stupid or these mother ducks must hate their kids. :-P

We hear about that a lot, actually. It`s nice to hear some light-hearted news once in a while.
