I dress as Nick Characters for a living and I WISH I could own a fursuit (but I can`t afford) the whole scene is fascinating to me!!

You know, I would love to talk to a furry about their... fur...dom?
Fur-life?
I am sure a furry would think my dressing up as a Vulcan for Star Trek conventions is weird!
Who am I to judge?

Now that I know about them... Furries are awesome. What bothered me about the article was the big girl with the red tank top on that was totally under dressed. Were those low cut jeans? or was the shirt just too short. I would never go to a public event lookin like that.

Oh, and just my opinion, but I`ve always thought that people who bash Furries, Wiccans, Gays, other races, Video Gamers, Nerds, or any other group that has negative stereotypes attatched, are merely insecure and therefore must find some bandwagon to jump on so that they feel included, even when their hate is based purely on opinions and fiction.

Huh. I`ve always liked drawing animals, and I have drawn the anthro and `humans with ears and tails` before. Does that make me an animal raper? No, it makes me an artist who loves animals and can`t draw human faces worth poo.

Hell, I never even knew there were people who dressed up in costumes and thought of anthros as a fetish until I heard people bashing them.

ugh, agreed.

I didn`t say all furries raped animals, people. :P

I was replying to LazyMe484.

They even mentioned it in the article lols.

I have no problem with furries who don`t participate in deviant acts such at that as I mentioned before. e_e;

Wow, people here have a messed up view of furries...
Being furry is not an obsession, its a cute little piece of my personality. My boyfriend is also a furry and it would be interesting to see you think these things of him, considering how he looks. Completely normal and almost preppy looking, tall, muscular but a complete and utter furry :p The only reason you have these preformed ideas of furries is because only the idiotic ones do anything to draw attention to themselves and their "weirdness". Non-obsessive furs just go about their business, hang out with other "normal" furs and generally have fun doing their own thing. Its like racism, you use stereotypes to put down and belittle people, but not everyone is the same.
You`ve only seen one side of the scene.

Also, for those of you who say that furries rape animals:

I have NEVER met a furry that was also a zoophile. Ever. Most furries are into animal rights and stuff, so I`m going to assume that they aren`t too into raping creatures with no possible way of consenting to sex.

Loxen - I don`t really think I`m "downright creepy with some real problems". :)

In fact, a lot of the furries I know are pretty cool and relatively normal. Maybe it`s just `cause I hang out with the artists?

Who knows?

Groups are judged predominantly by the extremists that make it to the media.

When you say "I hate Christians", or whatever, you probably don`t hate all Christians. You probably only hate the non-nice individuals who try to shove their Bibles down your throat and condemn you to Hell for looking at some attractive chick`s butt.

Guess what? Not all furries are messed up. Most of us are just like you. :)

What really disappoints me is that a portion of you are all going off of opinions like they were facts. An opinion is never a fact, it will never be a fact, it will always be an opinion.

You should go out and see for yourself if the opinion was made off of bias, ignorance, or just petty hate-of-difference. Not just take it as it is.

Loxen, odd, often overweight, and commonly obsessed describes pretty much most people, furry or otherwise.

Furries wouldn`t bother me so much, if the majority of them were actually normal "people" with a specialized interest. It makes sense they want to be accepted as animals because as humans the majority of furries are downright creepy with some pretty real problems (Socially, and mentally). Think of that "Ninja Turtle girl" clip that was on here a few days ago. Thats your average furry (minus TNMT) Odd, often overweight, and commonly obsessed.

Orangecrow, plenty of non-furries rape animals too. It isn`t exclusively a furry thing; it`s a cruelty thing, and that`s something that exists everywhere. There are good and bad people in whatever group you pick.

Some married men beat their wives, for example. That doesn`t make domestic abuse a straight thing.

Meh. I like lurkmore`s and encyclopediadramatica`s articles on furries better. Anyway, anime cosplays seem a lot worse to me, because I just can`t take the sound of japanese speech and the sight of fat guys in sailor moon outfits and there are no noticeable signs of furry conventions here.

Link_Hiei: I`m glad you show an interest in a con. The main attraction is mainly the artist gallery, at least at Califur (the fur cons in California, they vary in name, nature and attendance number from state to state).

From what I understand each con has a different theme each year, last year at Califur it was "Steampunk". The promotional poster given out was amazingly well done.

"my friend works at chuck E cheese and he has to sometimes where the mouse costume..does that make him a furry???"

No, like any other culture simply doing something because it is required of you doesn`t automatically make you a "member" of that culture. The same rule applies to employees of 1950`s diners, they aren`t automatically fans of the fandom following that era.

Well, some of them rape animals. >_>; Bestiality?

But yeah, I have no issues really with them (the non-deviant ones I guess you can say), and I agree with what LazyMe is saying. I do think it is silly and weird, but eh to each their own I guess. Most of them aren`t bad people I`m sure.

Lol @ Atomic.

Hmmm... Time to develop an opinion on the `issue`...

Social stigmas are all bullcrap so unless I hear of some cases of rape or murder or whatever, which I haven`t, then I have nothing against them, and neither should society.

Granted, I don`t see the point of them, as what they do is meaningless and frankly a waste of effort. So long as they pay their taxes and don`t force their `practices` on anyone, let them at it.

I hold the same opinion of... smokers, or... Mac-users.

I`m not a furry, but Atomic-Envy is being an ass.

Atomic, are you basing your dislike on actual ethical or moral grounds or because of a gut reaction?

The whole point of the article was that it wasn`t about "freaky animal sex" but about an admiration and feeling of connection to anthromorphic figures - a reverence for both animal and human.

Maybe it is about a sexual fetish for some of them, but that seems to me only a subset of that, and you seem to be making an assumption that that is what it`s all about. And even the sexual fetishness is something that is between them and not enforced on anyone else, and frankly, none of your business, unless you seek it out.

I can tell you its possible, theres even a specific porn site for it. (No Im not going to give you the link. It will save your eyes from melting. xD)

But overall, whoevers the one in the suit wont be having fun, it`ll just be a furry watersack of sweat after theyre done. xD

question Atomic, have you ever actually been to a convention yourself?

Until you do, stop making accusations about stuff you have no idea about. I`m a furry, and proud of that fact, I know what I like, why I like it, and what I don`t like (eg: Yiff I don`t) troll all you want, i`m not gonna argue, but until you actually go to a convention yourself (I have by the way, Pics to prove it) shut up and gtfo [/argument]

Atomic, why do you think things are made illegal to begin with?

Furries being able to marry eachother or not was not the point of my example. You didn`t understand it.

0

Female 35
and interracial marriage wasnt "socially unacceptable". it was drating illegal.
0

Male 2,850
Atomic, interracial marriage was once socially unacceptable.

Do you believe you should rigidly conform to what society demands at the expense of individual freedom of lifestyle?

Noun

fascism (plural fascisms)

1. A political regime, usually totalitarian, ideologically based on centralized government, government control of business, repression of criticism or opposition, a leader cult and EXHALTING THE STATE AND/OR RELIGION ABOVE INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS. Originally only applied (usually capitalized) to Benito Mussolini`s Italy.

no, what pisses me off is the people who run screaming "fursecution!!" over people who hate them for things that are commonly known as socially unacceptable.

i shouldn`t have to explain myself, but i did. now leave me alone. YAH DIG?

Male 2,850
Again, you hate them because they`re doing something you don`t like, when it`s not harming anyone who isn`t choosing to be involved, and doesn`t affect you in the slightest unless you deliberately seek it out to be offended by it?

Are you the kind of person who tunes into tv shows you hate just so you have something to complain about?

And furries are the freaky ones?

deliberately posting something that would cause yourself a painful backlash would be masochism, sir.

and i`ll admit i was wrong to assume youre one since i live by the creed of no assumptions.

but none the less, i hate people for who they are and what they choose to do. not for being different colors or what else.

i hate "furries" because 95% of them are disgusting lonely fags who attend their "conventions" so they can get in on some of that sweet sweet furfag orgy they always hold. or maybe theyre the types to buy or draw the art, raping my childhood in the non-nice individual with pictures of the carebears raping disney characters.

all of that aside, i really don`t need to debate you on this topic, when it`s so very obvious to everyone what the truth is. you don`t need to be convinced of this because you already know. no sense in denying it, 42

Why have you assumed I`m a furry? I`m not black, but I`m pleased when I see an article that debunks racial misconceptions.

You hate people for spending their free time doing something they enjoy that doesn`t involve you in the slightest, and you went out of your way to enter a thread and actually posted on it?

Wouldn`t deliberately seeking out something you hate make you a masochist?

And by this I don`t mean actively supporting furries; I mean simply understanding who they are and not actively trying to piss in their cereal just because they`re different.

Thanks guys. :)

Yup, furries are weird. Doesn`t mean you have to hate them or be afraid.

Though I really am afraid of those restaurant mascots that come and sing to you... those things scare me. They hunt you down, man. And their eyes... there`s nothing behind them. The mall near me has this GIANT bear during Christmastime with a person that controls it and it talks and is huge and I`m scared of it. :( But those aren`t furries.
