Hey loofah, this has nothing to do with "evil America vs. Canada" but... this is obviously a huge HUGE HUGE, misuse of the Patriot Act. It`s an injustice that needs to be taken care of and a wrong that needs to be corrected.

Someone should introduce hackers to the mighty FBI. You know, so then they`d know you can mask your IP adress.

@LoofahBoy: You could at least try to watch it all. Canada isn`t mentioned even one time.

This is one of the most disgusting things I`ve heard in a while. It`s time to bull doze Washington D.C., kick every last person who voted for the pile of sh*t called the Patriot Act out on the streets and start over. Our country is f*cked, try again.

@Loofah: How is Canada responsible for everything bad that happens in the world? We don`t bomb whichever country we feel deserves it in a given particular week.

Back on topic, though, I think this case is just another example of the failure of the US "intelligence" community. They probably have the wrong <insert kid`s name here>. With over 300 million people in the US, there must be at least one other <insert kid`s name here>.

This `story` is not a surprise. The US IS a police state, and American citizens are only as free as that state deems fit. American elected and bureaucratic officials when they brought the Patriot Act into being, also gave away they power to control what is now happening. As for the teen is the story, I pity the poor bugger. Cause he`s going to be f*ck now for the rest of his life.

Anyway, the kid probably DID make threats! So they had the right to check it the drat out! Found nothing, oh well. Kid doesn`t look like an angel, he looks like the d-bags in my town. Stop looking for "The Government has too much Power" stories. You don`t have to believe all of them, there`s plenty of true ones out there, so you don`t have to stick to this bull.

This mother didn`t come across as the most intelligent or well-informed person, especially when she made this statement: "Never in my worst nightmare did I ever think, that it would be my own government that I would have to protect my children from. This is the United States, and I feel like I live in a third world country now."
I don`t think she knows what a third world country is, lol. Also, on the actual story, I just wanted to point out how the fact that the boy had apparently never been in trouble and is extremely patriotic is completely irrelevant. I`m not saying he is a terrorist, but he could always be using that as his "cover-up" or something, or someone else like him could and that`s why that stuff doesn`t matter.

To whoever is saying America is a police state: please get back to reality. Please, your irrational distaste of America and Bush has turned into derangement. It also belittles what occurs in actual police states. My grandpa was sent to a Gulag for over ten years. That was an actual police state. The reason? He opposed the government just like you are right now, probably even less so. If this was a police state, you wouldn`t be allowed to complain about it like you are.

This is actually a little scary to think about given as easy as it is to spoof an ip address...since the Patriot Act was created we have given up our rights little by little. The mother is right about one thing we do live in a police state now when the government has the right to step into out home and take our children in the name of "homeland security"...think back to Hitler and the SS...seems a little to similar to me. The SS stepped into plenty of homes and took their occupants to "relocation camps" in hopes of protecting the "Fatherland".

THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PATRIOT ACT, NOTHING. The only person mentioning the patriot act is his Mother. Google it. People don`t understand the technicalities. A criminal complaint has been filed against him by the feds. The complaint is based on the fact that (1) a bomb threat was made from (2) his IP address.

This local report doesn`t say how the patriot act has any bearing on this - they just mention it because people don`t like it (I don`t either).

Internet wackos (the only people reporting this, not the real media anywhere), say he hasn`t been "charged," but what they mean is that he hasn`t been arraigned.

THIS KID MADE BOMB THREATS OVER AN INTERNET TELEPHONE. "Someone stole his IP address" says the mom....sure. Do you think the US gov`t doesn`t have the simple ability to track the geographical origins of an internet phone call??

A gag order is normal in a case involving a minor.

STOP BEING SO REACTIONARY. Kid`s a criminal.

I don`t think these reporters even know what the patriot act has to do with this (hint: nothing). BUT LOOK! HIS MOM PUT A FLAG ON THE BED! THAT MEANS HE COULDN`T BE A DUMB 16 year old who made BOMB THREATS over his internet phone!

I`m a lifelong democrat, but come on people, don`t take everything at face value. The US government doesn`t arrest children for making bomb threats without a good reason. Those FBI agents live here, have families, and are people - they aren`t faceless.

The `patriot act`? More like the `we think our citizens are morons, therefore let`s give this act, which lets us defy their rights as human beings, a name which suggests to disagree with it would be to go against their country (and who would EVER go against a country as great as this one?)`

The word `patriot` holds far to much sway in America

That said, why does this woman mention `blasting caps`? What is a blasting cap? Where does she pluck this word from?! SHES the terrorist! Burn her at the stake! Eat her eyeballs! Send her to Guantanamo!

I don`t believe in having them around the house either unless there`s no bullets in the house or the gun, mainly because of all of those home shootings due to kids playing with them (plus they terrify me).

I contend that the patriot act is in fact, patriotical....

Alien and Sedition acts of 1798
    Ex Parte Marryman- 1861
    Comitte on Public info- 1917
    National War Labor Board- 1918
    Alien and Sedition Acts- 1918
    Smith Act- 1940
    Korematsu v. United states- 1941
    Taft-Hartley Act-1947
    Mccaren Internal Security Act- 1950

During times of war U.S. presidents always expand their powers in regards to the constitution. What makes this any different than when Lincoln suspeneded Habeaus Corpus?

Agreed on the snoop dog ass head thing.

They definitely had reason for taking him into custody if there were numerous bomb threats, but two months stay is questionable. And when teh mom says that there aren`t any bombs in the house, that doesn`t mean he can`t make a threat. You see, that`s why it`s called a threat.

And I doubt it was a prank, only a real d-bag would make numerous prank calls that are bomb threats, and most d-bags wouldn`t know how to steal an i.p. address or even if the phone provider and internet provider are one in the same.

    just for quick reference.

The Defense of Marriage Act, or DOMA, is the short title of a federal law of the United States passed on September 21, 1996.
    1. No state (or other political subdivision within the United States) needs to treat a relationship between persons of the same sex as a marriage, even if the relationship is considered a marriage in another state.
    2. The federal government may not treat same-sex relationships as marriages for any purpose, even if concluded or recognized by one of the states.

article 4; section 1 of the constitution:
    full faith and credit clause.

Full Faith and Credit shall be given in each State to the public Acts, Records, and judicial Proceedings of every other State. And the Congress may by general Laws prescribe the Manner in which such Acts, Records and Proceedings shall be proved, and the Effect thereof.

I`m withholding judgment on this one. There are just too many unknowns.

Most families who home-school are fine. Usually it`s because, their local schools suck, and they just want the best for their kids. However, there is a small minority of people who are just bat$#!+ crazy. This would include white supremacists, doomsday cultists, incestuous perverts, and peckerwood fundamentalist religious fanatics. We don`t know which group this kid falls into.

The other thing is that these FBI agents know if they go ape$#!+ on an innocent kid without credible evidence, they will spend the rest of their careers running speed traps in Podunk, Mississippi.

The Patriot Act is a tool, just like a gun. It can be misused, or it can save lives. When people are plotting to kill thousands of innocent civilians, you can`t treat them like shoplifters.

The excuse that "somebody stole my IP address" is lame. His HD should tell the story. Let`s wait and see how this turns out. You may be su

Am I the only one that noticed that the IP address shown in the video is a private network address? one that can be duplicated many times across the internet without causing any identity confusion because the router translates that address into another address when comunicating with the internet service provider? that may be a mess up on the part of the news channel, but regardless i don`t think these people had a static ip address (generally only available on business class connetions) on their internet connection so how could someone steal their randomly assigned dynamic ip address? if anything the only way that the fed`s would have tracked the kid down was through the mac address and that`s hardwired into his computer`s networking hardware. then again if some one told me that hackers could fake a mac address i`d be ready to believe them. but still when are reporters going to start actually researching the crap they put on tv?

*Ahem* - Mom is full o` crap - this had nothing to do with the patriot act, as I said.

"Mom Outraged by Son`s Arrest Reportedly Knew of His Web Stardom for Phone Threats"

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,5195...

From the US Attorney: "ASHTON LUNDEBY WAS CHARGED UNDER A LONG-STANDING LAW AGAINST MAKING THREATS, and "this chage is UNRELATED TO THE PATRIOT ACT" the statement says."

TO ANYONE BITCHING ABOUT THE PATRIOT ACT - you obviously don`t even know what it is - if you did, you would have known it was inapplicable.

He`d post YOUTUBE videos making prank calls to stores and whatnot - later he`d let kids pay him $5 to make bomb threats to their school.

NOT ONE RIGHT WAS VIOLATED, due process was given. He`s a criminal, thats all.

Kingofall - look up the logical fallacy of hasty generalization and tell me who the moron is.

"I heard the prank phone calls he made," says Annette Lundeby of Oxford. "They were really funny prank phone calls. He made phone calls to, like, Walmart.”

BTW - the calls were FULL of racial slurs...she thought they were "funny."

"Lundeby confirmed that her son was known online as "Tyrone," a celebrity in a prank-calling community that grew late last year out of the trouble-making "/b/" board on 4chan."

"Lundeby admits that her son received donations for his prank phone calls."

    GREAT MOM.

"The case is sealed because the suspect is a minor." Just as I said days ago.
