I doubt they`re being attacked, especially if these are real atomic explosions. Militaries all over the world tend to observe their atomic bombs ridiculously close to detonation.

No, those were tests too. They placed abandoned battleships into the blast zone to test the kind of damage it would cause.

Shellie, the ones with the ships actually were tests. They were performed by the US Government at the Pacific Proving Grounds. The second photo (the one from the air) was from Operation Crossroads. This was back when the lower level members of the military did not know what radioactive poisoning was. They were literally only a few miles from the blast, and would immediately go to the blast site afterward. Needless to say, the majority of those soldiers who did that got pretty effed up.

Mushroom clouds form as a result of the sudden formation of a large mass of hot, low-density gases near the ground creating a Rayleigh–Taylor instability. The mass of gas rises rapidly, resulting in turbulent vortices curling downward around its edges and drawing up a column of additional smoke and debris in the center to form its "stem". The mass of gas eventually reaches an altitude where it is no longer of lower density than the surrounding air and disperses, the debris drawn upward from the ground scattering and drifting back down.

Any explosion can cause a mushroom cloud.

They might try to serve us one. If they do, we can serve them a few thousand, each one about a thousand times more powerful than the one they just tested. (Either that or we`ll just take it up the @$$ and Obama will apologize for offending them.)

I know, and just think how much further we`re going to go. It`s insane.

The first one was the awesome Tzar Bomb - the largest in history.

We need these to launch at meteors and aliens.

These are not of horror compared to our neutron bomb. Banned From Every Major Country in The World, the Neutron bomb is capable of destroying All sentient life within a 200(?) mile radius, while leaving buildings and trees unharmed. This mutilation is just murder in a box. a nuclear missle launch is a symbol of completely obliterating Everything into a oblivion and the next life. "next nuclear bomb attack within 8 years prior to this, Worst but most probable detonation locations-Saudi Arabia, and Iran, leaving our oil fields destroyed, russia will take over as leading supplier in both gas and oil" and you people thought last winter was bad for europe because of the selfish motherland? Let the bombs drop, So We can Fight The future

the first one used to be my background a week ago =P

we watched a movie on these with a bunch of film footage of the blast. ill try to find it later. but yeah the ones in the water they where testing the effects of a bomb under water and how it would affect the ships, which where obviously abandoned. unfortunatly in one of them (idr which one) they underestamated how powerful the bomb was and everyone observing it was wayyy too close and got baked with radiation. theres also a small group of islands in the pacific where they tested nuclear bombs. they made so many craters the islands are now completly under water

3 and 5 are different views of the Bikini Atoll Hydrogen Bomb Test; #9 is Tsar Bomba, the "King of Bombs" the largest yield nuclear weapon ever detonated (100+ Megatons) Beautiful? I disagree. Testament to our own callous stupidity and destructiveness? I`ll go for that.

the tsar bomba was not 100+ megatons. It was only about 50. It was originally a 100 megaton device but the russians decided that even they were not crazy enough to have one that big.

Pic #9 seems to have palm trees in the foreground. Wasn`t Tsar Bomba detonated way way up North in Novaya Zemlya?

The bomb itself kills within a mile or so radius, but the radition given off from the bomb post-blast increases chances of certain cancers and affects people miles away from the blast. :(

@FireEmerald They always cause destruction. Whether it`s through the depletion of the Ozone layer; whether it`s through people being exposed to the resulting fallout from a test; or at worst, the intentional slaughtering of countless innocent lives.

It actually disturbs me that I find these pictures fascinating. =/

ok, just to clear things up, 1 is not tsar bomba, it`s a test in French Polynesia. also, 1 and 10 are the same test. i saw somewhere else a progression of pictures of that explosion (notice the location). 9 can`t be tsar bomba, because tsar bomba was detonated in the arctic circle, and last time i checked there were no PALM TREES in the arctic circle just north of Russia. now, what does the real tsar bomba look like? just wiki it:
