It`d be a blank list, though. There goes another stupid idea. *sigh*
Do people really think I would cause anyone to think it was anything other then for comedic purposes!!!
link for anyone that doesn`t know JD quench:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caL-zU66k...
Personally I think that anyone who finds this offensive is taking it was too seriously and is the root cause of black/white divides.
Your argument is slowly becoming persuasive but I am still struggling with the subtler nuances of the concept.
btw flash tv is the pootiest tv station in turkey.
I think I`m going to shut up now, as Baalthazaq has demonstrated, Americans don really understand that other cultures exist outside of theirs.
And Baalthazaq is actually very right in his response to "evil Turks." If you condemn Turkish people for the actions of THEIR ancestors, then Germans are evil because of the Holocaust, the Japanese are evil because of Pearl Harbor, and Americans are THREE TIMES evil for slavery, Japanese internment camps, and--hey remember the Native Americans we kicked out and killed?
Good job using a silly gesture to try and prove your point but still using the letter in your comment.
I`m simply asking that people consider something such as these seven innocent gestures that are insulting around the world, and spend a second considering that maybe America might have a couple of its own things that are sensitive there, but not elsewhere.
I don`t understand what he`s saying.
How about moderating link for that matter. It would stop spammers, and people who still think rickrolls are funny.
and wholly unprofessional to say the least
.....out of a cannon!.
In another fifty years, Armenians will still be hating Turks, and there won`t be a single person alive who was even there when the genocide happened. Stop hating something that isn`t there.
When the Chinese guy found out he went nuts about only being able to take a picture of a person if you have their permission! (The first time he had ever reacted like that)"
Wtf does that have to do with anything? Obama was visiting Turkey. This happened in Turkey. Everyone who watched it and broadcasted it, was turkish (until it went online) ...to say that its inappropriate for turks to act this way, because its rude in another country is ludicrous and plain bolocks. Its not rude in Turkey, they don`t know its rude in America, why should they conform to an American standards that has been set because of american history?
2) Turks aren`t evil any more than Germans are evil for the actions of their great grandparents, nor any more than you are evil for the racism of your country in the 1910s, nor any more than the UK for its child labor policies in the same period.
Suicism: I`m not going to derail the thread in that regard. I`ll simply say I appreciate the efforts he has made to re-establish ties with the Middle East whilst not compromising America`s position, and that he hasn`t just taken office and abandoning the Middle East as I was expecting him to.
Arw you drating serious??? Look it up you bone head
It is merely because it is linked to certain non-nice individuals that it does. Any culture unaware of those connotations could easily use it respectfully.
The Swastika *is* Native American. It is also apparently Indian/Hindu, Bhuddist, Jainist, Baltic, Celtic, Finnish, etc.
Wikipedia is fun.
It seems he was trying to show respect. So OldOllie, Savage Nation, seems like they do like him. That`s certainly the impression I got, but what do I know, I only live in the Middle East...
Everyone in my office was *overjoyed* that he won. We represent 25 countries. I was probably the least happy, but quite frankly, I`ve been so far proven wrong about his abilities.
He`s doing *great* so far. Couldn`t have asked for anything more.
In that vein, how is the swastika a Native American symbol?
And that guy looks more like he had oil on his face.
It`s not offensive in and of itself any more than say someone dressing up as Bush to impersonate him.
The reason blackface is offensive:Racial tensions existing prior. Blackface was used in a racist manner. Blackface was used instead of black actors. Blackfaced actors were universally derogatory to Blacks.
It`s similar to the Swastika, in that it is also a Native American symbol with *positive* connotations. Someone who *somehow* only experienced the positive connotation might not understand at all why it is offensive, and in that case, people shouldn`t be offended.
If you`ve ever watched really old cartoons you`ll see this. but that is all banned now for being extremely racist towards black people.
Also, I don`t get why he (or anyone) thinks it`s funny. Really, it`s not even offensive, just kind of stupid.
For example, over the summer I did undergraduate research at my College with a Chinese guy. One day he wasn`t feeling well, so he passed out on a desk in the next room. Being American, one of the other people took a picture of him on his cell phone.
When the Chinese guy found out he went nuts about only being able to take a picture of a person if you have their permission! (The first time he had ever reacted like that)
Or how he took his part of our final presentation directly from Wikipedia, and we couldn`t convince him why plagiarism was wrong...
Different cultures, different values
@ Opie. Why should a Turkish newscaster read up on whats offensive in America and refrain from saying American-centered culturally offensive things..when he`s broadcasting in Turkey to Turks? Do you refrain from doing Chilean, or Chinese culturally offensive things while you live at your home?
that said,2) this TV station is not popular, so it wasn`t like it was some mainstream thing.
But, 2. I agree with Opiebreath. C`mon, read a few history books and understand that`s not acceptable in the U.S. for many reasons (don`t be so fast to forget the past, kids)
Most people are under the impression that the terms "racism" and "racial insensitivity" are synonymous. While this is incorrect, I`ve learned to just accept that people say "racism" when they mean "racial insensitivity" and nod quietly.
So, yeah, this is pretty racially insensitive.
(jk i`m not turkish lulz)
If its for comedy, no, no one would complain. Any other situation would just be plain creepy and weird.
Not sure what`s happening here though.
Lets all learn to laugh at ourselves a little bit more, yeah? Hopefully then we`ll learn that life`s too short.
Hahaha... The full translation would be interesting, methinks.
hes asking for stuff off obama and saying obama will give it to him because hes black.
he says the turkish government is stupid for not painting himself black when speaking with obama.
