You might not be as protected as you would be in a full-sized car with airbags, but it looks safer than a motorcycle or scooter, and there are plenty of people who use those every day. This looks like a good idea.

It looks like a cool thing, but I have serious doubts about it being a practical means of transportation. honestly, you couldn`t pay me to drive that thing down a busy New York Street.

and as for the acronyms, how about

"It increases capacity to two passengers in a seated position; capable of carrying them up to anywhere between 25 and 35 mph (40 - 56 kph) for anywhere between 25 and 35 miles (40 - 56 km) on a single charge."

If the PUMA can actually do 35, then it can keep up with traffic on city streets. I don`t see any visibility issues that can`t be solved by just painting the thing a brighter color. It may not provide the impact protection of a car, but would be at least as safe as riding a motorcycle.

Of course, if the thing tops out at 25 mph, then it becomes a traffic hazard. So the viability really depends on how much power they can get into the production model.

Looks like a disaster waiting to happen.

Why not just put a plastic bubble roof and a slightly more powerful motor on something like this:

Seriously...it`s reliable, extensively tested in real use, much safer and far cheaper than this PUMA thing.

i think that`s pretty cool. and pretty efficient if u live in a city. i`d run it.

Motorised wheelchairs are nothing new, and that`s all this is. It`s obviously not safe on the road. I`d rather have one of those mobility carriage things - they`re much sturdier.

Looks like an over-sized baby stroller. Who is going to buy that? Get into an accident with an orange cone and you`re wiped out!

A segway with a seat is stilla segway.

Segway has really outdone themselves this time. I didn`t think it was possible to design a more inefficient mode of transportation, but apparently I was wrong.

What do they have against numbers of wheels greater than two?! Adding one more wheel would make it require substantially less technology and therefore cost thousands less. I have thought about it a lot and I still can`t think of one advantage to having only two parallel wheels.

Also, imagine getting in an accident on one of those things. A f*cking bicycle could take this thing out!

They wanted to release it last Wednesday, but were concerned that everyone would think that it was a joke.

Too fast for the sidewalks and too slow for the streets. My favorite thing about this is that GM thinks that they will designate special lanes on the streets for this.

In case you were wondering about the price, they wouldn`t put a number to it, but said that it would cost about a third of what a normal car costs to own and operate.

well this thing isn`t made for the streets... Its for dense city areas like New York and Chicago. It has a top speed of 35mph and is targeted at daily commuters with a short commute. Smart move by GM but its just healthier to ride your bike.

Why bother balancing the thing on two wheels set side-by-side. It`s the answer to a question nobody asked.

The trouble with all of these super-smart cars is: VISIBILITY. You go out on the road in one of those, it`ll be less than a week before you get squashed by another driver who didn`t see you.

I`m 6`2" and 170 pounds. The only way that thing can carry two people is if the other one was until recently inside of a fat woman.

I kinda like the Segway. But this, well.... Couldn`t you just buy a motorcycle? For cheaper? I think they have battery/electric motorcycles these days too (is too lazy to actually google and find out). Kinda just a useless machine at this point.

This is just a retarded design. Why not just get out and walk? The only way I could see this being a productive design is if the entire world traded their vehicles in for this one. Otherwise - it is just like the segway, a fail.
