Ummm i just get the box and eat the pizza out of it?? Apart from being recycled, what other advantages are there?

good idea. it helps save the number of paper plates we use n throw away, because we`re just throwing away the box, or if you use ceramic or other kinds, then were saving water.

"but not entirely sure how its a greener option."

Green means money. The prefix `eco` means `trendy`. The second environmentalism stopped being connected to grungy, tree hugging hippies was the second people stopped caring about the real issues at hand and more about the image.

This isn`t made for eco-friendly individuals, it`s made for lazy people because :
A) you don`t have to wash dishes. You`re still using the same amount of cardboard as when you normally order a pizza
B) You don`t have to spend time clearing room in your fridge, or transferring the pizza to a permanent, re-useable plate.

Unfortunately, the pizza box probably has a higher carbon footprint because of the extra processes involved in perforating three extra times.

All in all, same amount of garbage (Unless you use paper plates, in which case you`re probably having a party and will need more than four paper plates), less work for the lazy, but overall larger impact on the environment.

However, it sells because at first glance it seems to be eco friendly. Which sort of sums up 80% of the environmentally friendly ideas out there: pure marketing schemes.

Actually this is already seen in the U.S. in colleges across America. What, youve never made plates out of the top of a pizza box?

How the hell would you get fatter with a more usable box? Lame title.

@supersmash- the problem isnt just cutting the trees down, its the fact that they are all the same kind of tree, from the same gene pool, the same age, and cut down at the same time. polyculture [planting different kinds of plants together instead of in different sections] is still catching on

Wouldn`t there be some chance of you getting a crappy, manhandled box and having it collapse if you accidentally jostled it too hard? That would really suck.

and even if its triple recycled or wutever bs he said the more u recycle things the less well good they are and therfor more cold pizza. hooray! oh and the man power to recycle things in the first place is ridiculous. and they need to send out waaaay more trucks, all of which produce "toxic fumes" that are evidently bad for the enviroment.

While i agree with the Pizza flavored pizza box idea, if you pay attention to what he says youll notice that he said its mad from recycled biodegradable matierals unlike normal box.

where this wins is that it saves power, cos you don`t need to use plates, and subsequently either wash or dishwash them, saving water, the power needed to heat it, and reducing detergents going into the water system. The refrigerator box may save wastage as anyone not finishing it will be less likely to throw away half or quarter unfinished pizza. If it only saved a couple of cent a box it would equal millions yearly. All the really good ideas are the simple ones, it rocks!

Many of the trees cut down for paper goods come from private farms where trees were planted specifically to make paper. Also, for every tree that is cut down, many more are planted. Only about 9% of the trees used to make paper goods come from old growth forests. Still a lot, but not that bad. This is not to say it`s good for the environment, I just found it surprising. Most of the negative impact comes from the paper making process though, not from cutting down trees. However, there are still many environmental concerns.

It wouldn`t make business sense for paper companies to use up trees without repleneshing the supply.

Buy your pizza, use paper, it`s good to cut down trees since thinning out the forrests allows the older, stronger trees to propogate and continue a more pure genetic structure.

the kind of cutting you`re referring to is selective as opposed to the clear cutting that is more widely used which does NOT help the environment. it increases soil erosion, reduces genetic diversity[making the trees more vulnerable to plant diseases and pests], and of course, destroys animal habitats and valuable natural capital

I have a better method:
Eat the whole pizza with your hands.
Ta-dah! No dirt dishes and no need to store leftovers.
Use the cardboard box to make a sweet armour and everybody is happy.

The idea is nice, anyway.

I agree with you, miakauisan.

Thanks Bored2run. I was gonna come in and quip about how recycling was mostly bull, useless and, most of the time, worse than making the product from raw materials...but you said it for me. I`m glad I`m not the only one that has a brain cell focused towards that subject.

Actually does seem like something that can catch on with pizza places. They release something about them going green with their boxes, swarm of customers go in for their support.

"SuperSmash: It`s a clever idea, but will have no positive impact on the environment."

Every single rain drop claims that they`re not responsible for the flood.

Hmmm... I use my hand as a serving plate and use the entire box as a storage container.

And I`m not recycling it either way (don`t have recycling in my town) so it doesn`t do me any good. In fact, all it does do is put extra carbon into the atmosphere to run the machines that make those perforated edges.

Female 267
The "Green" thing is really being over-marketed compared to the realities of what`s really recycled. If you want to be really green, wash your ziploc bags and reuse them for food storage. Also, recycle glass, it`s the only thing that can be re-used as originally formed as opposed to plastics or paper products in which whose recycling and re-manufacturing actually adds to the problem since very few factories are truly utilizing optimial eco-friendly plant processes. Buy your pizza, use paper, it`s good to cut down trees since thinning out the forrests allows the older, stronger trees to propogate and continue a more pure genetic structure.

Don`t buy into everything the media, government and marketing feeds you.

That`s pretty useless. The box has already been made and no matter how you use it, it will either end up in the trash or recycled anyway.

It might save the water needed to do dishes, but it`s only four plates and unless someone`s dumb enough to run the dishwasher with only four plates in it, it doesn`t make a difference.

It`s a clever idea, but will have no positive impact on the environment.
