no negative, im more scared of the dingo-virus though.

Also, speaking of wombats, I heard the best unintended sexual innuendo the other day:

"You have stroked the wombat"

"I misunderstood that you were unable to articulate your words as per your true feelings."

I suppose we`ll have to agree to disagree on that one. Everyone else seemed to understand me fine.

"This is a forum for open thought. As a moderator you should know this by now."

Obviously it is, or you would have been deleted by now. No one is arguing that your opinion is wrong, however some, me included, are saying it was quite shockingly rude. There is no excuse for that. However, being rude isn`t against any rules.

"Why degrade that intellect with jr. high name calling for lack of anything better to say?"

I`m really not seeing what you seem to be seeing in my comments, there is no apparent name calling or any other immature form of conversation in my comment.

Bored2Run, Opie made a completely fair comment and you viciously berated her, and she was completely balanced in her response, for which you took offence at being "ironically talked down to condescendingly".

At present, your chance of having Swine flu is less than 1 in 25,000,000. There are only 264 cases of swine flu confirmed, or 0.000004% of the population.
It`s like the avian flu all over again.
I`m sure we`ll be fine.

Bored... I`m not sure you understood my post. I`m not trying to be a doctor, FFS as you say, I`m only trying to keep people from panicking themselves into hypochondria or from pissing this off as nothing.

There is absolutely no reason to be rude. I wasn`t attacking you or anyone else, please understand that. I was merely saying that it`s much better to educate yourself about a current event than fall to one extreme or the other. Never did I claim my words to be "medically worthy" or that anyone should take my advice over something else.

So please, if you want to start a fight or find someone to argue with, there are plenty of other controversial threads elsewhere on the internet. Politeness is a virtue. Your provocations are mute here.

Opie, don`t preach about education in virals pandemics when you have no professional concept of them aside from what clips you view while spending your life on the www. Okay?

"EDUCATE YOURSELVES."

Yes, that`s the only thing from your words that is honestly and medically, worthy.

DON`T DEPEND ON ADVICE FROM INTERNET ENTERTAINMENT SITES!

That`s even better advice, Opie. Be responsible FFS.

Washing your hands is great advice but it`s OLD advice. Most people don`t even know how to wash their hands properly let alone, sneeze or cough properly. Wash your hands in warm water with soap, grab a disposable towel to dry your hands, then with that same towel, turn off the water faucet. Grab a new towel and use it to open the next doorhandle you reach for. Use a hand sanitizer after.

Cough/sneeze into the bend of your elbow, NOT your hands if a disposable, sanitary tissue is unavailable. If you are running a fever? Stay home. Do NOT go out. This is anytime. Not jus

Dude, I am going to Universal Studios in Orlando. 2 people died there because of this flu. Anyways the way to catch this is if you don`t wash your hands and you touch your face or somthing. Bacteria enters your body, the virus contracts. Of course, only if the forementioned bacteria is actually on something you touch or somebody else around you has the swine flu. It is deadly by the way. The human body is not used to fighting off a virus that up until now only affected pigs.

0
Reply
Female 15,763
Mik, it`s pandemic if it has evolved to go from animal-animal, then from animal-human, then from human-human, then it has to be very contagious and spread within a community, then it has to spread to another country, THEN it has to be very contagious within that country.

Also I`m pretty sure it has to have the ability to kill you.

EDUCATE YOURSELVES. That way you won`t ignore the real warnings from the media, but you also won`t get tied up in the panic from the media.

... If that is their definition of pandemic (They were just talking on tv about how if is "Pandemic" because it is in many countries...) Then the common cold, the common flus, Pneumonia, and I am sure many other things have reached a "Pandemic" level... IT`s just trying to scare people -rolls eyes-

The pic is cute too. Pigs in a blanket (on a tiger).

Davy, this is a combination of the bird flu, the Spanish flu (that killed millions of people, however these people hadn`t discovered modern hygiene, AKA soap), and some new fun stuff.

So it sounds like a super virus, and probably would have killed millions and hit pandemic level status... back before modern medicine and the ability to stay clean daily.

Yay soap!

All in all: Don`t panic, wash your hands more, try not to go too close to pigs in Mexico, and stay home if you feel like you have the flu (regulation).

Nort, what makes it an epidemic is that there are more than a hundred people since Saturday and now it`s international.

But yes, people are panicking much more than is necessary. However, it is considered a phase 4 because of how contagious it is.

They definitely are overreacting to this thing. "There`s like 100 people out of the over 300 million people in the US that have it, yet they`re calling it an epidemic. The only thing that scares me is that today someone was confirmed to have it in my neighboring county. It`s kinda scary that it`s that close to me"

Problem is...since it can be passed from one person to the next, 100 people could have already infected 1000s. Each individual touches doorknobs, goes to work, school, and home to families. A 100,000 people could have easily come into contact with it already.

Not to scare more people LOL! Just wash your hands and don`t let someone sneeze on you!
