Nice deflection, PETA. They think they"re clever.

Uhm... Only thing is... I would consider PETA`s "rescue shelters" as an Auschwitz for animals. PETA KILLS 98% OF ALL ANIMALS IN THEIR CARE!!! There`s no money in adoption...

We should invite PETA to a dinner, with a huge buffé. It should include every single delicious type of salami, sausage, or other yummy meatproducts. Just to provoke.

Although, I do think some vegetarians have a point when they say that we are killing too many animals. Just lessen the amount, and maybe make the US population a little slimmer in the process.

may as well ask seal to change his name because it might condone the clubbing of seals.

The chicken on the page header looks delicious.

Boredx12: Correlation does not mean causation. It is equally likely that smarter people (if your statement is indeed true) think about moral issues more, and therefore are more likely to become vegetarian.

Don`t get me wrong, I`m vegetarian. However I`m insulted at the suggestion that my intelligence is due to my diet.

Pet Shop Boys? Didn`t we already kill them and drag their lifeless corpses through the streets years ago? If they are still alive, it must be an Easter miracle! Praise Jesus!

PETA only does stunts like this to draw attention to their organization. Problem is their stunts are usually so outrageous that no one will take them seriously (i.e., "Unhappy Meals" with Ronald McDonald butchering cows passed out to little kids)

I quote Denis Leary: "Eating meat is an instinct - not eating meat is a decision."

And soy protein is not an answer. Soy contains natural estrogen which in great quantities is NOT good for you.

I like the comment on the page. "Actually, I Like Slaughtering Seals!" has a nice ring to it for a band name. "Clubbing Seals", maybe. Something to do with seal murder. I approve.

to FELLDOWN123: thanks, always wondered what pet shop boys meant...it all makes sense now considering peta openly said in their letter that they have many members who are pet shop boy fans...looks like that south park episode making fun of peta was right all along...hahaha...

This is disgusting... Isn`t the U.S Justice Dept investigating P.E.T.A for slaughtering something like 20,000 animals last year? Shouldn`t P.E.T.A be focusing on buring the heads in the sand or covering there collective butts instead of coming up with "Fluff" ideas for minor fan-based-band publicity?
I`m sure as hell not a redneck, and I don`t subscribe to any tofu prescriptions, but anyone, anywhere cannot stand and condone THERE treatment of animals. There credibility has been destroyed.

Please google the P.E.T.A slaughtering story and share, I`ve never marched/protested/or demonstrated anything before and to be honest, I couldn`t be bothered. I`ve always agreed with no-fur, equality, gay/lesbian rights, but nothing has ever spurned this hatred and loathing in me for a company or an orginization before.

Ironic really. Pet Shop Boys is the name given to people who put small animals up their butt for sexual pleasure. I wonder what PETA would make of that.

And I think you are a polarizing dumbass (or possibly a troll considering your /b/tard past (not a very good one if so)) pageturner. There are other, better, saner groups out there set up to defend animals.

PETA Killed 95 Percent of Adoptable Pets in its Care During 2008

According to public records from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, PETA killed 2,124 pets last year and placed only seven in adoptive homes. Since 1998, a total of 21,339 dogs and cats have died at the hands of PETA workers.

Despite having a $32 million budget, PETA does not operate an adoption shelter. PETA employees make no discernible effort to find homes for the thousands of pets they kill every year. Last year, the Center for Consumer Freedom petitioned Virginia’s State Veterinarian to reclassify PETA as a slaughterhouse.

i think you asshats are missing the point of all this

"breeders often keep animals in cramped, filthy conditions and that many animals sold in pet shops suffer from inbreeding, genetic weaknesses, physical deformities, or behavioral disorders"

kay? now i don`t care how tough you think you are and how cool you think it is to be heartless. but you all know animal cruelty is wrong.

and this is coming from someone who has been a /b/tard for years lol

I don`t know, "Actually, I Think Seal Slaughter Is Pretty Great" seems like a pretty cool band name to me.

My aunt is in PETA, btw. Sometimes I want to slap her. But, whatever, be ridiculous if you wish.

What irks me the most is that they obviously have no idea how the entertainment industries work.

Before it was all about Cooking Mama because they wanted Nintendo to release a Vegan version.

They have no idea how long the game design process takes, the programming, the art, the character and gameplay design. Not to mention all the constant trouble of communication between departments, cutbacks, setbacks, deadlines, and basic office stress.

Then they come out and want a band to change their name.

Hello? The name was chosen for a reason, surely there`s a long process for that too. What names are worth remembering? What names really say something about the band? The music they play? Does the name sound rappy or poppy, or more classical?

Pet Shop Boys sounds (to me at least) like some pop group.

Rescue Shelter Boys, that sounds a lot like a cheesy and lame after school special where they sing really BAD "edutainment" songs.

It`s pure ignorance spurred on by arroga

Did I miss what was so biased about this article? I`m no fan of the PETA, but I don`t see why this is considered one of the worse things they`ve done. There`s a lot more things to criticize about PETA than a letter that asked for a band to raise animal awareness, even if it was through a stupid means.

"I still support animal rights but they`re looney. "
animal rights = animals are treated as good as humans, which means one could run for president if it "wanted".
animal welfare = giving animals a generally better life and experience.

Animal Rights = CRAZY MOTHERF***ERS (by definition)
Animal Welfare = Sane animal lovers

"I heard is that "Pet Shop Boys" was a term used (way back when) for lads that used to do uncomfortable things involving rodents and arses"

That`s an urban legend. They were originally called West End and changed it because of some friends of theirs who worked in a pet shop.
