And if anyone takes this in an extreme feminist way, I will shoot you.

It`s called "I`m Glad I`m a Boy, I`m Glad I`m a Girl". It`s a very long book, with those pics and all that, but my favourite is "Boys are Police Men, Girls are Meter Maids".

Right or wrong, this was pretty much how things were back then.

I`m sure it included, "boys are bosses, girls are secretaries," and "boys are strong, girls need to be defended."

Thank goodness things have changed--makes life much more interesting!

Lol, pretty funny. But in all seriousness I don`t see why people find this offensive. Women are for child and house keeping and men are for food and security. Thats how it`s always been.

I mean don`t get me wrong, I`m all for relative equality but men and women are different, lets be comfortable with that.

mehh, crap jobs? Are you kidding me? House work and cooking takes hardly any time at all. Maybe 4 or 5 hours a day.

Joking aside, it`s the whole `women get all the crap jobs` attitude which make me realise the extent in which penis envy can effect people. Are you telling me you want women to be more naturally dominant? Are you telling me you want men and women to be equal? Look around you... in almost all species of animals on the planet the males are more dominant. Get over it. It`s not something to be annoyed at it`s just mother nature and if you can`t get over than then you obviously don`t understand the complexities of life and evolution.

Jimbobsthebe: there is no denying that men and women are different in many ways. However, housework and menial jobs, no matter how much time it takes is utterly boring and unrewarding. If I had no carreer and had to do that day in day out I would go insane.

I probably know a lot more about evolution than you and I assure you gender roles do not play a great part in natural selection in modern times. I really don`t know if you believe what your saying or if you`re just trying to stir me up.

Yes, Men and women have different strengths..but did I honestly just read your rant correctly jimbobosthebe? Penis envy? Hardly. (No pun intended) But the excuse that we are just animals; therefore, let us act like them is dumb. Many animals eat dung, but I can`t say I`ve feasted on such a delicacy -ugh. There can be equality and respect without blending "roles". I for one can say I may not agree with hardcore feminists, but I wouldn`t be continuing education right now if it weren`t for them. And it does tick me off when a woman is being paid less for equal (excluding physical labor) or better work due to gender .

Very interesting... considering the feminist movement was in full swing back then (I remember!) This seems more like a book from the `50`s, but I can tell it`s from the 70`s by the drawing style.

And as for gender roles, it boils down to "boys have all the power, girls have none" unless you manipulate the boys. No thanks, rather make my own power and share with the boys as an equal.

This isn`t sexist because it`s not based on opinion. Putting the word `most` in front of each sentence would make everything completely true. The only reason the author is pointing these things out is because it`s a children`s book simply teaching children about general gender roles.

So quit your bleeding women... ha, now that was sexist.

Well, I don`t know. I`m all for equal rights and all that jazz.
But really for humans male`s have been naturally the leader of the pack.

Which is common for alot of other mammals, The male is defends his family while the mother takes care of the kids and feeds everyone And for eariler humans the male would hunt fight other humans for land while the women took care of the fort.

It makes sense in a way for the woman is made to have children and so their bodies are more made to be able to do that. With typically weaker uperbody strength than men but stronger legs to surport the baby. N men don`t need that so they are all strong in the arms so they can be liek I r man hear me roar. And fight other men to show how well they can protect and provide for their family.

I really hope no one bashes Shadowspirt cause I totally agree with him.

Same thing, I don`t agree with this page (though it definitely made me laugh like hell). I think if a woman wants to make a career she can do anything the hell she wants but is it wrong to like having a guy protect you and deal with things you`d just rather not? I live with my roommate and her boyfriend and when we have a problem with our neighbours? He talks to them. When an issue comes up with the landlord? He deals with it.

We do all the cleaning, cooking, dishes. We all work but in a predominately male work environment doing manual labor, he is usually more tired and we just like taking care of it. Boy, you sit in your chair. We`ll call you when heavy lifting or spiders come around. I`m sorry!

    Shadowspirit...where to start?

There is usually one male who is the leader of the pack, and only one. Other males are killed, driven off or submit. But we`re talking about men, not males. Humans are different to other animals because of our minds. I don`t roar and fight other males in the mating season to earn rutting. What species are you?

The roles you refer to were made obsolete by civilisation, agriculture and urbanisation. They exist because of the mechanics of reproduction. About once a year at most for women, several times a day for men. If half the women of your tribe die, your tribe dies. If half the men of your tribe dies, it can survive. So men took the risks and women were more protected (and therefore more restricted), because that was the most effective way to survive. Millenia ago. Not today.

A minor point - the average leg strength in women is quite a bit less than the average leg strength in men, not more.

"And it does tick me off when a woman is being paid less for equal (excluding physical labor) or better work due to gender ."

That would tick me off too, if I ever found an example of it.

    Decades ago, yes. Now, no.

I spent a very boring time examining hundreds of "sexual discrimination" cases in pay in the UK. All of them resulted in a ruling in the woman`s favour. Not one of them involved the woman being paid less for the same work.

A random example from my own council. People (whatever their sex) who collected domestic refuse were paid more than people (whatever their sex) who cleaned offices. This was because the former worked outside early in the morning in all weather, in the road, handling week-old waste. Who wants to work in freezing sleet hauling smelly waste and maybe being hit by a car? So the job paid more than cleaning air conditioned offices indoors. This was ruled sexist against women under "equal" pay law...and everyone must

lets kill the girls dreams, hope and independent thoughts! with one class as ruler, things will move along allot easly.

    cut off...

...everyone must pretend it`s the same work. Many people simply assume that it is, because they don`t realise they`ve been carefully lied to about what "equal pay" means.

To make it more feminist-equal, i.e. sexist, it does of course only apply to women. So if a man and a woman have both been cleaning council offices, the woman will be paid a lot more than the man, for the same hours in the same job doing the same work. And that will still be counted in the official figures as a woman being discriminated against under the equal pay law, which most people will wrongly interpret as a woman being paid less than a man for the same work.

Thank you Jilana for being a female who agrees with this. At the end of the day, men and women are built differently. Men are built for more active hard working tasks and women are built for less active more caring and maintaining tasks. It has been like that since we were cavemen.

The times may be changing. I`m not saying women shouldn`t be allowed to do what men typically do, go for it, fire away. But at the end of the day, the reason men do these jobs is because they are designed for them. And even in modern society, this is still mainly the case. Sure there are exceptions as with everything, but we all know it`s true, and we haven`t changed that much since the 70s, we`re just more aware of sexism and what is "morally wrong"

Hahaha what the drat? Halfway it really starts becoming sexist. Ah well. That`s in the past. Besides, yeah, evolution did kinda say women should be there to care and deal with the minor things, although in some ways women were also developed to defend their children, and provide for their children ... etc etc i`m probably not making too much sense but ... yeah. I realize that there are extremes of both cases. Women being paid more than men and vise-versa; however, I can say for a fact that I have personal experience even in physical labor. Yeah, a man may have more strength...but if they are sitting on their butts while a woman of 120 pounds unloads the truck week in and out, why are they being paid more? To "supervise". Yeah, I supervised a department as well. It is just irritating to be in that position. If a woman asks for a raise (this is what I`ve encountered in my area), she is considered ungrateful. If a man asks for a raise, he is providing for his family. Honestly, the only part of this page that bothers me is that a woman is generally described as a mindless, menial-task zombie. Like most women, I don`t aspire to work in a hard-labor environment for ever, but I do want to be respected for my own personal area of expertise.

fkinloser: the only women that are screwing things up are the ones that think "We are better than men. Men deserve to be the ground we walk on and nothing more." That`s like nazi-ism for genders instead of races and religions. That`s the only problem: women`s rights activists. The claim that they want equal rights but they try to make the rules apply to only men. It pisses me the hell off.

    I thought those were "feminists"?

In my eyes, anything a guy can do a girl can do too, obvious anatomical differences aside.

It pisses me off when women are all like "I`m strong!! I`m IN CHARGE" and still expect men to open doors for them and pull the seats out at tables.

They say it`s "courtesy." Well, courtesy and chivalry only existed because "strong" men were supposed to treat "fragile" women like dainty little things.

The problem is, most women now aren`t thinking of equality, they`re expecting to be treated like "princesses."

Well, honey, last time I checked, you`re only a princess if you`re in a monarchy and if you have money.

So all you poor-ass American women, stfu, get a job, and grow a set of proverbial balls. Stop expecting me

LTimeLurker: You`re complaining that supervisors get paid more than labourers.

For a while, my immediate supervisor was a woman. She got paid more than me. Because she was a supervisor.

When I said "if I ever found an example of it", that`s what I meant. I didn`t say "there are extremes of both cases".

It doesn`t make sense to assume without evidence that it`s the norm. If a business could get away with routinely pay women less than men for the same work, it wouldn`t be financially viable to employ men. Businesses almost always regard payroll as a letter from Satan and reduce it if they can. Those that employed men would be at a disadvantage compared to those that didn`t. In reality, it`s not worth the risk of extremely negatively publicity and lawsuits.

A coworker was complaining to me a couple of days back. He`s doing a management job for much less pay, because companies will do that if they can. As he`s a man, he didn`t assume it was because of

"The problem is, most women now aren`t thinking of equality, they`re expecting to be treated like "princesses.""

They have grown up being taught that they have a right to whatever they want and that men have always got it. It`s rubbish, but people tend to follow their conditioning.

It`s essentially about having all the advantages of the traditional woman`s role (primary parent, presumed morally superior, courtesy, men paying for you, etc, etc), plus all the advantages of the traditional man`s role, plus none of the disadvantages of either role, plus all the non-existent advantages that people pretend men had/have.

Wanting to have your cake and eat it (and thinking you have a right to do so) is a pretty common thing amongst humans, especially if they`re trained from birth to believe it.

I`m in a good mood today. I think future generations, a few centuries from now, will have genuine sexual equality (and probably laugh at us in history lessons for being such

"Men are the muscle and women are the... minds? Women are generally better at stuff like being a boss or maybe lawyers, or psychiatrists, while men are better at building things and so forth

    OR SO I`ve been told..."

And you would have been told very differently in the fairly near past. Go back >100 years here in England, for example, and you`d generally be told that men were the strength and intellect of society and women were the conscience and civilisation of society.

It`s all bull, of course. It`s all just a reflection of the prevailing sexism in a society at the time.

    Jilana:

Try doing the bulk of the gathering/food preparation side in a hunter-gatherer society, i.e. the "womens`" part of the lifestyle we`re still physically adapted for. It`s hard labour.

Or even try housekeeping without modern technology. There`s hard labour in that too.

Granted, the "mens`" part of the work in both those examples was physically harder, but many women in the past did much harder labour than many men today.

I saw a documentary in which historians and archeologists recreated the 1588 completion feast of a great house in England, exactly as it happened then. They drew straws to select which (sexed) servant position they had. One historian`s role included fetching water for the kitchen. So she walked down the very big lawn to the river, filled the two buckets attached to the yoke over her shoulders and walked back uphill again. All morning. That`s hard labour.

"boys invent things, girls use what boys invent" and "boys fix things, girls need things fixed" lol

    and @ Angilion

Yeah, I`m a girl but I`m against feminists. They fight for "equity". We really already have equity, and more. Women are already in almost all professions that men are now, as well as having the benefit of maternal leave. And in terms of just general stuff. Well, men can`t hit girls, they shouldn`t make girls pay for themselves, they need to be gentlemen... heck my friend saw a girl beat up a guy in school once and the guy was the one who got in trouble for getting into a fight. I don`t think girls are even considered if the army needs to draft people, but I could be wrong.

Women pretty much have the same rights, and more, so feminists need to stop whining, being greedy, and wanting everything.

I really wouldn`t mind just sitting at home having a man do all the work f
