That strategy worked for civilized nations, but how do you deal with a fanatical, superstitious madman who has no fear of death? Ahmadinajad dreams of martyrdom, and he has said he wants to bring about the end of days. A total nuclear holocaust would fit his warped vision precisely, and if NoKo can sell him the technology to bring that about, it just saves him the time it would take to develop it himself.

North Korea is as close to Hell on earth as there will ever be. There are concentration camps where people are tortured on a daily basis. This is a long video but it is worth watching if you don`t know. Someone needs to take Kim Jong-Il out now.

Even if North Korea does launch it at somebody, the rest of the entire world will rally together and ensure that only ash is left of the country. Honestly, I don`t think one missle launch from a country that everyone hates will have other countries launching nukes at countries that aren`t North Korea.

North Korea has backed itself into a corner. Bankrupt and irrelelvent, the only way they can stay on the world stage is to play brinkmanship. A slippery slope; one day they will puxh too hard, and the consequences will be dire for the world. Kim: There`s the dictator that we SHOULD have gone after, not Saddam, who was threatening no one.

How do you fight urban warfare with jets and ships? Everyone is hiding in a million diff buildings with snipers, rocket launchers and road side bombs. It`s really hard to fight, especially when it`s not our homeland and they are hidden behind innocent people. How do you think we won the American Revolutionary war, it was on our own turf and we ambushed troops from the woods and towns.

Just read on CNN that North Korea claimed their "satellite" launch was a success and they have it orbiting.

U.S. and other agencies countered that the missile was tracked and failed over the Pacific ocean along with its payload. Doesn`t take a lot to guess which one is lying.

Great shooting there Kim! If I lived in the middle of the Pacific I would be terrified of North Korea...

I don`t understand why people/media are getting so wound up about this! Its blown out of proportion!

The DPRK is the biggest (i think) missile proliferator in the world (its how it makes its money) so its hardly a surprise that it is developing its weapons. To me, the biggest problem arising from this is that it is going to make the DPRK an even greater proliferator - Because we, in the West, have a lot more to worry about closer to home than the DPRK!

Its rockets are also pretty crude anyway tbh! The Taepodong-2 would be able to strike U.S territory (like Alaska) but wouldn`t be able to carry nuclear warheads because it is just not efficent enough for that. So claims of that nature are pretty premature.

And on the regional threat note, they could already deal with their regional neighbours with their Shorter range missiles, so this hasn`t really increased the threat towards the region. Just the Perception of that threat.

I spoke too much, and nobody will read that anyway!

Very true. And that is why I wonder why the UN or summat haven`t simply gotten some nanny-figure to tell everyone to just let it go. Deassemble them all. Carefully.

I don`t get it, why are rich western countries aloud nukes and no one else is?
----------------------------------------------------

Western countries developed those technologies during and after WW2. Then the cold war came and the west and east ammased massive stock piles!
Well..read this..
Nuclear Armed States

However.. there is now the Non-proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) treaty stopping the spred of nuclear weapons and stopping nations developing nuclear weapons who don`t allready have them.
NPT details.

To sum it up, if EVERYONE had nuclear weapons, someone would use them! Consider Iran for example..do you think they should have nuclear weapons! Remember this is a nation that has open hatred

Sorry Boredx12 but you simply can not just "fire off" nuclear weapons to get rid of them! If America "was" to launch all (and I do mean all) of its nuclear weapons at anyone ever we`d all end up dead from the fall out anyway! They simply are weapons you can not use..ever!

Anyway..reguarding North Korea..yes action should be taken.Kim Jong-iL and his generals are the problem rather than the North Korean people who are pretty much crushed under his regiem!

To be honest I wish we`d all just take our nuclear weapons and stick `em in the desert where Bin Laden`s meant to be, blow `em up, and get drunk as hell while the sun sets.

Not that Im saying we should kill Bin Laden, it`s just the only vast empty-ish space I can think of where we can safely get rid of the nuclear carp.
And they`d kill him anyway if they ever got him, so yarr.

God am I tired of fighting a cold war with a country that`s about as powerful as North Dakota. If someone had had the sense to make the DMZ larger than artillery range, this whole matter could be settled in a month with minimal loss of life.

I`m also pretty damn tired of people acting like North Korea`s anything even vaguely resembling a real threat to anyone but the inhabitants of Seoul. No one who knows anything is actually afraid of North Korea, the US government certainly isn`t. It`s all a big joke.

North Korea may not have the capability to nuke the United States, but they STILL have the ability to take a lot of lives when they go down fighting, and Kim Jong might just be crazy enough to try that. There is an absolute poo ton of artillery north of the DMZ, all pointed at Seoul. If war breaks out with N.Korea, there will still be a massive loss of life no matter WHAT happens.

If we can prevent that, I`d be willing to do so.

@LazyMe484, I can tell you how this will play out if we don`t stop it. First, this thing doesn`t have a snowball`s chance in hell of reaching orbit. It`s a ballistic missile designed to deliver a nuclear warhead somewhere in the range of 5000 mi. (8000 km.). If it works, they will start producing them and selling them to Iran, Syria, Venezuela, and any other dictator who has the cash. Then if Iran ever gets a working nuke -- their own or from NoKo -- they can threaten Israel or a good part of Europe.

Considering that Ahmadinejad has said he wants to wipe Israel off the map and bring about the end of days, I am not as anxious as you to "see how this plays out."

@corrine26 (cont.) As to NoKo, any number of presidents could/should have dealt with them before. Heck you could say that Eisenhower should have finished the job in `53. I`m no fan of Clinton, but neither can I put all the blame for this on him. And while I`m certainly no fan of Obama, I can`t honestly say that McCain would be doing much better -- at least in this matter. I think the real problem here is that WE`RE not in charge! ;-)

@corrine26, true, Bush 41 could have taken out Saddam in GW I, but the coalition would have fallen apart. We would have had to go it alone, and there`s no reason to believe that it would have turned out any differently then.

I guess you could say that Saddam was "contained" if by that you mean he was torturing and murdering his own people by the thousands and piling them into mass graves; he was refusing to cooperate with the UN weapons inspectors; he was harboring know terrorists; he was in violation of the original GW I ceasefire agreement and 17 subsequent UN Security Council resolutions; and along with the UN, he was perpetrating the biggest corruption scandal in history and bribing governments all over the world. Oh, yeah, and there was that WMD thing. Granted, by the time we invaded, we didn`t find any stockpiles, which proves absolutely nothing. He had more than enough time to move or bury them. He was threatening the world with them, and bluffing or not, we called

Wow, davy I can taste the eurorage and I can almost hear the techno music. Either way, I agree with what you say davy, just not how you say it. Saddam couldn`t have hurt us and possibly put a nuke on US soil, North Korea is trying to show that they just MAY be capable of doing so. Read nakoninja`s link, it seems a little bit like propaganda, but overall its pretty near the truth. I stated earlier that they don`t want anything to do with us, and I stick by that. I also DO believe that Obama and his administration CAN negotiate to where we are no longer a target. Also, how can the US benefit if we were to face them? Where would Korea benefit if they were to attack us?

I have been following the Taepodong-2 missile story for a few days now, and as far as i have gathered, it has not launched yet, it has been moved to the pad and fueled. It has not launched yet, and i am pretty sure that Fox news isn`t going to be the first one to report on foreign affairs.

Also, i find it almost appalling that nobody really notices or cares until the word nuclear and INSERT COUNTRY OTHER THAN AMERICA HERE is printed in the news story. Last time I turned on the TV I didn`t hear a lick about anyplace other than the United States. People should stop acting so surprised and immerse themselves more into international affairs and relations (No military allowed, sorry America).

@ Ollie. I did not say anything about an elective war with North Korea then or now. Then we were in a better position to call Kim`s bluff, but instead Clinton backed down and provided aid in exchange for promises from Kim to be a good boy. There are other means of overcoming tyrants than military force, If Clinton had the balls back then, we would not be dealing with this piece of crap today.

What`s the target on this one Lil` Kim, the Pacific Ocean again?

China and Japan should be at attention more so than they are on this matter. Communist countries by no means need to stick together, and a missile into China is a lot easier than a missile to the U.S. West Coast. Same goes for Japan.

The nature of this aggression is to exploit supposed weaknesses of the opponents. It will continue to build until the aggressor feels no action of his will warrant retaliation and his actions become much more violent. For reference see Nazi Germany, 1935-1939.

Now Kim doesn`t have the resources, the morale, or a decent army to withstand any type of engagement. But if possible, he may order missile strikes for whatever reason he has in his twisted little mind. Not the destruction of the world, but tragedy nonetheless.
