Pretty simple micro controller project. :) We did stuff like that this semester. Used a 9S12Dx256 for our micro.

Great engineering and fascinating to watch. Unfortunately there`s not much of a market for toaster sized clocks that sounds like a buzz saw?

`Yeah, looks awesome, but the "hands" spin counter-clockwise... I`d prefer mine to go like a regular clock.`

he can just change the settings/rotation of the thing.

Aww, I had an old HDD!
I could have made a clock out of it!
But NOO, I had to turn it into a serrated razor hand saw/flamethrower.

`Yeah, looks awesome, but the "hands" spin counter-clockwise... I`d prefer mine to go like a regular clock.`

I`d also like my seconds to be accurate, but this is still pretty wicked.

Heh. Cool. Yeah the noise is probably because of the slot he cut, either that or something`s rubbing against the disk from when he built it.

i love people with creative minds who actually follow through with hobbies, i`m too ADHD to do that (without my pills), even though he sounds geeky(his voice, then again who am i to judge) i give him mad props for making something that cool, if it spun the correct way, which i do know that CD players don`t, i`d buy something like that

It seems to me that cutting a slot in one side of the disc would throw it off balance causing the bearings to fail. That`s probably the noise you are hearing, since hard drives are nearly silent under normal conditions. I`m sure, though, it would be cool as hell till it burst into flames. Then it would be even cooler! }-)

I used to have a clock that used similar technology, but it was with a wand that went back and fort. It made it seem as if the words and letters were floating in midair.

Cool stuff.

LOL alk3v, I didn`t notice. Went back to check it and you`re right! Jeez.

Kinda noisy, clock face is really small.. needs lights turned off.. kinda a waste, but cool nonetheless.

it`s not really going backwards, it`s an optical illusion, like if you Really watch car rims, they Seem to go backwards, but if they did, how would the car be going forwards? And no, it`s not in Reverse...lol
