A rodrigorenzo IDK if you`ve noticed yet but this site has a mature language filter, so...let`s test it:

F*ck = drat
Sh*t = poo
B*tch = Bitch
D*mn = Damn
*ss = Ass
(Now some words that might be filtered)
C*nt = mean person
C*ck = rooster
H*ll = Hell

"I dont think it counts if the nose of a plane is headed for the ground Lionheart. I believe the plane would have more life capability if right side up, not in a death dive with your nose first."

Exactly. In groundschool we learned that ground effect starts getting to its strongest at a distance of about half your wingspan above the ground. Its harder to explain than to just feel, but it allows you to go slower without stalling. Which helps with both takeoffs and landings. Also, the faster you go, the more pronounced the effect, which can be fun...

"It really wasn`t that low. I used to shoot wamprats with my T-16 back home, and they weren`t much bigger than two meters. Blah, blah, blah..."

I don`t even have to read the board to know there are posts saying that this wasn`t that low.

(If there aren`t any, then I`m just having a pissy day and apologize for my lack of faith in humanity.)

Wow, so, like if you`re heading straight for the ground in a plane and you`re one foot away from it, the lift gets stronger and stronger the closer you get and you don`t crash?

That is some nice low-level flying, but for anyone who likes aviation, at that level you are in "ground-effect," essentially a cusion of air that smooths out flight at such a low level by decreasing drag and increasing lift - allowing for stable low-level performance.

I`ve been subject to a few low passes myself(some I`m not so proud of, yet still a perk of working at a smaller airport...), and its actually a pretty weird feeling when you don`t see it coming(unlike the cameraman, which might have contributed to his composure). I know you can hear the drone of the engine a bit, but going that fast, you have no real perception of how close it really is until its almost right on you, and it can be pretty scary. It`s even scarier when its not a piston engine, say, maybe, a Cessna Citation II, perhaps, and you`re out working on runway lights... quite a nice mid-day wakeup call...

Good stuff. And great to see Spitfires still in the air. Did as much to win the skies over Europe as the M1 Garand did on the ground.

The Brits sure did know how to build those birds.
