Aww, she`s so cute. All dressed up and such. (:
She`s hella good at the piano too.!

We played Pirates of the Carribean in Wind Ensemble once; just for fun.
We brought in the percussion and it was so awesome.
Our conductor was jumping around everywhere. xD

That applause was not loud enough... It must be hard for her cause the piano is so tall. You can tell she has to reach on tips of toes to reach some of the pedals.

Not too bad. I`ve been playing organ and piano for over 10 years now, and I have to agree that they are two very different instruments, but she didn`t play from her "heart" per say. She did excellent, though, better than many of my students.

@ pseudonym28 you also have to take into account that this is a crappy quality video.

and i agree with schizotango, electric organs are much more complicated.

also, kudos to the kid`s outfit lol

hmm looks like an electone... anyways playing an elec organ is a whole other set of skill. See alot of posts comparing wod the kid is doing to the pianists. Well they arnt they same. Dont be comparing apples to oranges here. You gotta judge her as an elec organ player not a pianist. For one thing, one has to learn the characteristics of other instruments when imitating them on the elec organ.... and that itself will take you a loong looong time...big mountain to climb... and theres programming and loops and tracks and samples. Its just different.

btw, I agree with the comments below that this isn`t good at all...it sounds nice, but uh, there`s no musicality to it, the song`s not coming from her. That just doesn`t roll with me, but I guess I can be biased after being trained for piano for a good decade. But still, great song, just little `wow.`

And I positively love Brahms.

Im not calling anyone a killjoy, i just get the impression that doug obviously knows a fair bit about music, and feels that everyone should adhere to these views that are forced upon them.

In any capacity, i consider this douchey behaviour.

AGit--Scientology? Really? I`m amused some more...

Both--Ad Hominem arguments FTW?

Mx24--Thanks for the support. BTW I haven`t actually heard Chopin and Beethoven play their stuff, so interpretation counts for something, doesn`t it? Also--"amazing" should be in quotes, signaling, "not really".

Alk3v--Thanks, but you probably think I`m a douche now too...

As conceited as doug is, hes right.

It`s not amazing that you can play something out of drating guitar hero. (yyz and kansas) Hell, the kid probably has never even heard of either of the two bands that she played their song. (Aside from hearing it in guitar hero (Not that listening to a satyr baaah-ing away on the mic is that interesting))

Nor is it any more amazing that you can play any of the work of Chopin, Beethoven, etc. All in all, you`re being uncreative and playing someone else`s work.

Doug1963aaa, normal people don`t leave a paragraph for a comment so when people usually judge you by the first sentence it`s because there should only be one sentence. Enough said... Oh, and this piece should be played by a symphony not a keyboard.

I taught myself at age 45 that I need to lead a post with false praise so that people actually read what I have to say `cause people only pay attention to the first sentence or so and pass judgement quickly. I think I`ll just go and play Mozart`s, "Fantasy and Sonata in Cmin", now. I haven`t "mastered" it yet, but some people still think it`s "amazing" (practice makes perfect). After that I`ll work some more on the "Waldstein" and then "Pictures from an Exhibition". Of course I`ll have to warm up with the Hanon`s before all this.
Britt--I welcome the comments of more children in the morning, because I`ll feel up to it after I play some Scott Joplin.
NegativeOne:I`ll wear the "douche sticker" with pride, if that means that I can personally feel the beauty of Chopin`s "Valse in C# min" without putting the record on--as a matter of fact I DO feel "pretty special"--AND ALL OF YOU COULD TOO IF YOU WANTED T

It is always slightly depressing how someone so young can be so very talented. But in the words of Apu, "Go little girl!"

I know a girl named b*tch that thinks that she master the piano and she`s never had one lesson and she taught herself how to play and every time I showed her someone who could REALLY play the piano she would be like "I could probably do that... maybe even better". People like her need shut their face. Oh yeah and at the end I was surprised that nobody clapped until he got up.. like they expected him to do something else.

The performance is surely innovative but I`m with Doug on this one. It`s hardly `amazing`. Forgive me for sounding like a snob, but Doug is receiving unfair judgment here.

Djer: Many Asians (including myself) are forced to take up an instrument early on. But it`s only because their parents love hearing the instrument so much. Eventually the individual inherits the passion and carries it on, or drops it. It`s hardly `exploitation`.

I would give you a little sticker that you can wear on your shirt that says "I`m special", but I`m all out. They are in very high demand around here so all I have left is the "I`m a douche" stickers. Wear it proudly, Doug.

Unfortunately, doug, East Asian culture is completely different from American. If you show a high amount of talent in something, it is refined and exploited whether or not you "enjoy it" or not.

Male 347
As a completely separate observation, she doesn`t seem to be enjoying herself very much. Playing music should be a joy, not a chore. If you want to teach your children music, teach them to love it too!

can do better.

To all--I know that it seems that I`m trolling this site, but it has long been a source of irritation for me that any small amount of talent (not this little girl in particular, who actually has some) is considered "amazing". It is the same feeling I get when people stand around and applaud people playing "Rock Band" or "Guitar Hero" as if they have actual musical talent. I`m sorry that I`ve chosen this particular video to vent with, but I`ve finally been able to comment, as my previous email provider considered email from I-am-bored spam, and I have not been previously able to post, so it seems that I have a vendetta against this little girl. My vendetta is against everybody that underappreciates talent and overappreciates mediocrity. My vendetta is against everybody that mistakes technology for technique. Push your children to know the difference!

Jaydee, like others you miss the point. I`ve been lurking on this site a long time, and I`ve observed that anytime a child (or really anybody) that does anything musical that most people can`t do (and the vast majority haven`t even tried, more`s the pity...) is viewed as "awesome" when in fact it is not. This encourages mediocrity. That you are impressed by the right-hand-only technique of your "Fur Elise" players sends the same wrong message--that any musical ability, however small, is something to be praised highly (praised, yes, but highly, no!). Why not raise the bar and push somebody to be "good" (not even necessarily "excellent"), and teach them, that they too can play the left-hand part? It`s a shame that musical ability has become something regarded as almost mystical, when virtually everybody has the ability to do what this little girl does, with some interest, concerted effort and heart. Perhaps this child will inspire others that they

Dexy, I taught myself how to play when I was 4, and I`ve made loads of money doing it, and played for thousands of people, solo and with groups. My only frustration is that modern keyboards remove the need for true skill. I`m sure the girl practiced her heart out to do what she does, but it`s certainly easier than impressing people with the piano. I suppose I am jealous that she has access to a keyboard that I did not at her age. If she`s 10 that would have put me in 1973--big difference between now and then. The organ that I demoed for the public at the mall piano/organ store in 1976 had none of the capabilities that hers has. The only drum sounds it had went "boom-ta-boom-ta-boom-ta-boom-boom". There are true prodigies out there (and I wasn`t truly one of them) that fail to be recognized for fantastic skill, that I`m afraid this little girl doesn`t yet display. My wish to her is that she keeps working until she can amaze people with just an ordinary piano or organ.

I`ve been playing since I was her age, and I must say she has a lot of talent. Doug, I can see where you`re coming from, but you cannot deny she is talented. Correct me if I`m wrong, but you almost sound as if you`re jealous.

In addition, if you were to transcribe what she was playing to sheet music, it would be considered an "easy arrangement", the likes of which I played when I was her age. Conveying this tune on a piano convincingly is possible, and would require much greater skill (like actually playing chords, etc.). Let`s not forget that sheet music is available for all three of her tunes, so it`s not like she even figured it out for herself (unlike the guy who plays the Super Mario Brothers theme on the piano, which frankly isn`t impressive either, but still seems to amaze y`all).

As somebody who has been playing piano/keyboards for 40 years, I can tell you that the keyboard she`s using is doing a large amount of the work. If you replaced the sounds with ordinary organ sounds y`all would not be nearly as impressed. When playing a single note sounds like a unison octave string section with bassoons, it`s much easier to be impressive. She only ever seems to be playing a maximum of 4 notes simultaneously (typically one for each hand (sometimes open 5ths with the right) and the left foot only counts quarter notes). Now I admit that what she`s doing is not so easy that everybody can do it, but what`s she`s doing is not so hard either. I`d like to hear her play a little Bach using true organ sounds--now that would display some technical skill (which this does not, nor did her other pieces), and would probably generate the applause y`all think she deserves.

There must not have been very many people in that room `cuz that was the worst applause ever for such an amazing little girl! I was so prepared to only watch part of the video before it started and WOW was I blown away!

Just a thought: maybe the applause was so lame because Asians are just so used to their kids being amazing at everything?? Yeah, here we applaud like monkeys on meth when our kid does an ear-rotting, head-hurting, off key rendition of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. We suck.
