Amazing video using procedural generation. You can download the executable as well to see for yourself.

to put this in perspective, its like some of the previous posters have said, instead of downloading the video, you tell your computer the instructions to make the video itself. the plus side is that it reduces overall size of the file immensely, the "catch" is the "effort" needed for the computer to make the video by itself.

The video is 17000 kb... or you can download the executable which is 180 kb and shows the same video.

Like that has anything to do with knowing the size of a mod... and its probably bs (or at least stretching the truth) too
Wow... just wow... kill yourself douche...

basically you can dl this file for 180kb(pretty small file) and it will show all that.

@awesomo: "it wouldnt b 180kb if they made it 3d. fail."

You have no idea what you`re talking about. It`s procedurally generated and renders out through your video card. Rendering it again from a second camera to make it 3D would not increase the size of the file at all.

1) this app is amazing. For those that don`t understand, it`s a program that is ~180k (which is about the size of a single, large, high quality single image). You install it on your PC, and you run it, and without downloading anything else (i.e. with only the information in that 180k) it plays the above video, meaning it procedurally generates all the textures, animation, music, models, and camera moves. Brilliant.

2) Posting the actual video is the epitome of "missing the point". It`s like taking a screenshot of a webpage and sending it to everybody instead of sending the link.

Its not the video thats 180kb its the app that made it. This is why none of your stuff gets posted... you get the descriptions wrong and they`re all bs. And whats left over is still wrong.

It was made in 2007 0.0

Anyone bother reading the description? Its exactly the same way nVIDIA`s GPUs process things, by using formulas and other equations.

i might be miles off but i see the best way to explain this is using cake as a file and a long tube as the internet.
Now im a baker and i want to send a cake to my friend so traditional methods means i roll it flat and fold it then break it into segments and send it down the tube, when it get to the other end my friend will see its a .rar cake and will piece it back together according to the rules he already has for .rar cakes and then unfold it and punp it back up till he has the original cake.
Now this method if im right is much like simply sending the recipe down the line and telling my friend just to make it at the other end with the relevant ingredients list ive given him

Not really all that amazing. It`s a simple trade-off of memory vs processing power. A technique as old as computers themselves.

This is utterly amazing. Technology has come so far in such a short period of time. Everyday we make advances. To be able to compress it to that extent - phenomenal. I cannot wait to see the other things that are coming out

Top put this amazing feat into perspective similar amateur video games based on the half life engine take up 300 mb (look it up, i would know, i design video games) they fit this into a package 1,500 times smaller. an mp3 is only 10 times smaller than a cd and that revolutionized music sharing!

Pretty much this code they wrote conveys almost 8 minutes of video and sound in the same amount of data that`s transmitted by you speaking on the telephone for only 4 seconds.

Didn`t really catch my attention long enough to watch it all, but the technology behind it is impressive.

Only, I have three computers, and not a one of them has a graphics card with the capacity to run that. :/

@Videogamer, Ram
He says "Yes, everything you`re seeing comes out of an executable of only 177 kilobytes size.
The secret behind all this is procedural content generation. in a nutshell, instead of storing a movie as-is we`re storing a certain number of mathematical formulas for image and audio manipulation as well as the "recipe" how to apply those small bits of code in a way that what you see comes out. And while it`s running your computer`s graphics card cares for the actual displaying ot the world, just like in modern 3D games. Formulas+recipe are of course way smaller than the end result, and with a few additional sprinkles of magic compression fairy dust we get down to under 200 kilobytes, which is way less than one single high quality image of this show would take."

Pretty phenomenal if it comes out of an exe thats 180kb! Although, it must unpack an awful lot into the ram, but still kudos.

No, I think the movie file was 180kb. If you go to the movie on YouTube and read the description, I think the author is saying that he`s able to take a really detailed movie and compress it all down to 180kb while still maintaining a really high level of quality.

That`s impressive, I suppose.
