One of these days, society is going to start taking the issue of bullying seriously and impose heavier laws and penalties. Until that day happens - more and more kids are going to snap and everyone else will be left wondering "why?".

In comparison, the German Weapons Law is one of the tightest in Europe. ~ Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_Politic...

Goes to show more gun control isn`t the best.

If teachers were allowed to carry firearms, I personally guarantee that this kid wouldn`t have made a single kill.

Time it takes police to arrive -- 10 minutes - 30 minutes
Time it takes to pull a trigger -- a split second

Notice we never get articles like "Man shoots 50 people at NRA meeting.", we only get shootings at "gun free zones"... ad libbed from Penn and Teller`s Bull$hit episode about gun control.

"If teachers were allowed to carry firearms, I personally guarantee that this kid wouldn`t have made a single kill."

so the kid has the gun, you give the tacher a gun
kid gets bigger gun, give the teacher bigger gun
kid gets tank... do we give the teachers tanks?

this is not the answer, it needs to be nipped in the bud BEFORE the kids get their hands on the guns. Bullying is the majority reason for kids shooting up schools. Stop the bullying and you will find school shootings will go down in number

    I agree with Shellie84.

As for the guns in the classroom thing, I think making guns *that* accessible in the classroom would make things more dangerous. They wouldn`t even have to get the gun somewhere else, or smuggle it past security, they could just overpower the teacher.

Plus, let`s not forget how stressed out teachers can get. I`ve been in a few very tense classrooms and I hate to think what would happen if the teacher got pushed too far while they had a gun. The natural reply to this is that "no one would mess with a teacher with a gun" but we all know kids would mess with them anyways. Kids are stupid and would be "sure" that the teacher would never pull a gun on them, no matter how far they got pushed in the non-physical sense.

I hope that guy rots and is tortured in the hell I don`t believe in.

Also, whoever started talking about gun control. Yeah, because one example of somebody using a gun in a gun-controlled place REALLY means that everybody should be waving guns around willy-nilly and the world be safer. Get a life. How about you compare average gun deaths between each country and see where you end up. More guns would not make anybody safer, and giving TEACHERS guns?? Get a grip. I had a teacher in junior high screaming right in front of a students face for being a bitch. If he had a gun? Jesus. I would not step foot in a school that drating expects every classroom to have a gun in it. I might as well just go to drating prison for that kind of atmosphere.

Can`t deal with it? Then kill yourself in solitude. If he had killed only himself, people may have actually thought `hmm, wish i spent some time with that guy`. Hold the phone! I thought I heard a vague sentiment there that the solution to school shootings is to put a loaded firearm in the desk in each classroom... Teachers should be trained firearms experts, and always carry a loaded piece.
    HELL YEAH!

What the yellow rubbery f*ck are you talking about?

Why stop at teachers? Hell, let the students have guns! Why stop at students? Let everyone a gun! It`s a right under the amendmentblahblah that we have the right to bear armsblahblah written in the eighteen f*cking century.

The way to reduce gun deaths is to arm all the civilians (come on, it`s not like we`d lose our temper once in a while, in the heat of the moment!). Everyone has a gun = less gun fatalities. It`s an obvious formula.

Opie, why is that immature? Don`t tell me you didn`t want a redo in life. In fact dreams are used to play out scenarios in the real world. So saying "What if" scenarios is immature then you`re calling everyone immature because everyone does it.

Unfortunately yes, Luistom, giving a gun to someone who is properly trained to handle the gun would let them defend themselves.
That`s why I`m saying properly train teachers in the use of firearms, will mandatory psychoanalysis`s would prevent school shootings to a degree.
Keep the guns locked up until things heat up, and there won`t be a problem.

If you want to "nip it in the butt", build a time machine, go back in time, prevent gun powder from being invented, because nowadays you can easily get a gun illegally.

Nice idea. But why keep the gun locked up? I mean, by the time you start to hear the asplosions in the corridor, it might be too late to type in the code to unlock the gun. Hell, you might not even have time to take the safelty off before you get mowed down in hail of hot lead! Keep the gun ready, man, keep it locked and loaded, because they`re coming for you!

    ------------------------

Now, hoe the f*ck did the kid get a firearm in the first place to go all Rambo on the school? Could it be that his dad/mom is a teacher, because now they all pack a loaded piece, readily available if you know the code to the cabinet?

And it`s not like kids would ever figure out the code to get the gun from the cupboard, right? It`s foolproof. Show me a kid who figured out who to use their dad`s credit card.

Yeah, except the Marines in real life know how to deal with one gunman. Real life isn`t like a video game where every step is anonymous, and you don`t get several lives to try over and over with.

Anyway, this is horrible. People have counselors for a reason, why deal with it like this. People are are sick like this should be removed from school immidietly.

Davy, even if a student with a gun gets into a classroom before the teacher has time to pull out their gun, the psychos would only get time to shoot up one room, as opposed to multiple rooms, like at Columbine, where the psychos went into several rooms.

And who said anything about a combo lock? Surely there are tons of better locks. What I would propose is a card swipe lock, where the card is turned in to the office after every day. If the card turns missing the office would have a back-up card that only an officer, or someone similar, where the gun would be removed from the room.
And inside the card swiped section a different type of lock locks up the gun.

The lives of the few to help the many, is the general jist of what I`m saying.

    Christ man.

    That`s so unfair.

15 people gone, just like that in 1 day because some kid got angry. It`s funny how depressed you get when you realize just how mortal we are.

    No second chances.

    No last words.

No, he got shot in the leg after which he shot his own brains out. CNN screwed up.

"I can`t wait for all the anti-gun nuts to start screaming for a gun ban. Because, you know, it`s the gun manufacturer`s fault!"

And what the hell is your problem today? It IS (at least partially) the guns fault. Studies have shown that if we would ban guns there would be 40 percent less murder. Reason enough, no? Besides, Germany already banned guns (like many sensible European countries, but he stole the gun from his father who actually had a licence.

"Pretty much only countries where it`s actually legal to own firearms like handguns have school shootings. Coincidence? Not really. I`ll take proper law over century old ammendments anyday thank you very much."

Really? Because saying no guns in schools is a highly debatable issue where as saying outlaw handguns is just straight up retarded. I don`t know about you, but I`m not sure where the black market is. But I`ll go out on a limb and say any violent criminal does.

ZOMG! Interrogate his gun!! That gun had no business being in that school!

vicious_liar: "Germany already banned guns (like many sensible European countries, but he stole the gun from his father who actually had a licence."

Which keeps proving my point that gun control doesn`t affect the criminal/psychopath/the guy who shouldn`t be handling guns. It only affects those who are responsible.

I`ll repost the link prime posted, because it makes more-than valid points.

"Ban cars. They are responsible for more death and environmental damage than guns."

Yep cars kill people too. Funkiest thing though, cars, unlike handguns, aren`t designed with the sole purpose of ending the life of other human beings. Sometimes, they`re even designed with the intention of ferrying people from point A to point B.

And Primetime, nice little cameo study there about how gun murders dropped in a small US town after they relaxed gun control. I like to look at the bigger picture (I`m rad that way) and look at the global statistics.

Here`s the rub: it turns out countries where lots of people have access to guns have more gun deaths. Crazy sh*t, Rambo.

with a gun ban the only reason there would be fewer murders is then it would be slightly harder to kill your fellow man and the decline would only be temp. your not fixing the problem your only making it harder to do what so many people want to/ and some people actually do.. ever notice alot of the times these things happen over girls? or mainly girls are shot in these things? not blaming women just makes ya think...

That`s just sad. And scary. I often sit in lectures wondering what would happen if somebody just got up and started shooting. I also think it`s funny how anyone can deny the fact that it`s pretty difficult to kill someone with a gun if you don`t have access to a gun.

Guns should be banned but it wouldn`t have stopped this situation. Guns don`t kill people, people kill people... that kid was obviously very much disturbed and would have found a way to kill those people regardless of having a gun or not. Whether it be home made explosives or a simple knife he would have still found a way. Although i do believe that guns should be banned for the simple fact its making it too easy for these kids to just randomly up and kill alot of people.

Sad situation, feel awful for the people that have to endure such tragedies.

It`s really sad, all these cases are. And this may make me no friends, but that boy was failed by his family and by society.

I have no sympathy for him as such - my sympathies are with the victims, their families and those left behind. Still though, why wasn`t his anger and depression picked up and dealt with? Maybe he could have been turned around.

    Maybe. I don`t believe you`re born bad.

I agree, these kids don`t do stuff like this because it`s so fun to kill people, they do it becasue they are depressed and desperate. Then again people who are depressed (and i mean really, not the emo whiny kind of depressed) tend to hide it i think, they act normal around other people.

But hey, on a brighter side this sort of reaffirms the article posted the other day about people in nigeria being more happy with their life than most westerners :P

Is it wrong of me to feel a little relieved that this sort of tragedy doesn`t JUST strike in the US (and yes, I know it has happened in a few other countries, but we lead with 44 shootings)?

It was making me feel like there is something in the water. Some government drug causing violent behavior in some that was released to the population`s water supply or some other food. But, I guess not.

davymid: So your test on whether to ban something is what it was INTENDED for, rather than what it actually does.

What if a handgun is for protecting myself or my family? Can`t that intention be valid?

I mean, alcoholic beverages are INTENDED to make people feel good, with the nasty side effects of destroying their judgment, coordination, ability to reason, and their livers. Is alcohol okay?

Cigarettes are INTENDED to provide a light high, with the unfortunate side effects of toxic smoke inhalation, large cancer risk, and possibly the highest addiction rate save only meth and crack. No problem, right?

There`s always going to be dangerous people out there. They don`t need a gun; they can kill my daughter with their bare hands, a knife, a piece of window glass....

I want a gun for protection. From the bad guys.

The `right to bear arms` part was written by men who only knew of guns that took what? 25 seconds to reload the next shot? Let`s see - stand gun on butt, grab powder flask, pour down powder, take powder ram push powder in nice and tight, drop in ball, oh and one other thing - isn`t some sort of igniter thingy needed near the hammer (gun cotton?)to flash the gunpowder?

A madman massacre would be mighty difficult with guns like that.

"Hey! where are you guys running too! Come back I`m starting a massacre here! "

Ah thank heavens that was then and this is now!
It`s good to have the NRA protect my right to bear automatic arms and multiple 30 plus rounds per clip. Reloading sucks. I mean what if my families home was invaded by an entire troop of armed and crazed boy scouts?

But that doesn`t mean crap can`t happen in Germany, too.

I`m not saying that the kid wasn`t messed up in the head to begin with, but I`m a little angry at the kids who teased him and the teachers who didn`t do anything about it. It is NOT okay to go and shoot somebody over that, but it is ALSO not okay to harass somebody or to overlook that.
