To you Freshmint, this tradition is only 18-29 years old. To an 80 year old man, it is 80 years old. A 1000 year tradition differs none from a 100 year tradition. No living person can remember a time before EITHER. It does NOT keep building tradition like you claim.

That being said, I have nothing against the bull run, just your pompous claims of superiority.

"Again, I wish the US had proper History and ancestral traditions - it would help you to understand. I know it`s probably too much to ask for a country with less than 240 years of history....
I have an immense respect, and a profound gratefulness to those who went to Europe and lost their lives to free it up from Nazi Germany.

But I do not owe a single thing to their grand (grand) childrens. Just like today`s Americans does not owe a single things to today`s French for helping them out to gain their independence."

It`s strange how you can hold history in such high regard, and only one comment later completely ignore it. As for not being able to "understand" such a long tradition, ridiculous. Really? How old are you? What exactly does it mean to you besides a number? You can only fathom a tradition in terms of your own lifetime and your own memories.

they deserve to be trampled. Poor bulls don`t know they are going to end up in the arena bleeding and in agony has harpoons are shoved in their eyes. LEts let the humans feel some pain for once and maybe see how the animals like it. I bet a horn in the face is very similar to a few dozen spears in your back

What I think is hilarious is that PETA say this is cruel to the bulls :)

but Lads, all of you need history lessons, (and don`t go quoting wiki)

so yes we would have been speaking russian because if the yanks didn`t finance the D-Day landings well then yes we would have been screwed by the Russians

lets not forget that they might not have stopped the Nazis
there were Nazi rallies in Madison Sq Gardens:
http://www.ushmm.org/museum/exhibit/focu... )

secondly Britian has had continuous govt since Charles II (and I`m Irish - the basterds) but then so has switzerland and sweden and no one tells russia what to do

Furthermore yanks test their manhood with guns, spaniards with bulls the irish with drink

what you dont do is insult there symbols

and for all the talk of freedom, you`d never be

Good lord when are we going to learn...if we post anything dealing with race, religion, sexuality, culture, language, tradition, or ANYTHING diverse, it`s always going to start a freaking argument.

I swear you stupid little children have absolutely NOTHING better to do than ARGUE! You can`t even realize for a moment that these differences are what make life interesting.

If we had it my way, you would be staring at endless pictures of kittens, drooling in your chairs completely brain dead. It`d keep most of you quiet while Pmarren`s fingers bled from typing "Cats = Suck" so much.

I agree with the Europeans; it`s a tradition. These people know what they`re getting into. They`re not "morons." And they don`t deserve to die for partaking in a traditional event in their country.

If you never experience any danger, your life will turn out pretty boring. No wonder why the average american is so unhappy, their lives are incredibly dull and monotonous. Maybe if we had something like this we`d all have something to look forward to and get excited about

Tay-Dor - Maybe we don`t go about wars with everyone because we don`t make long term enemies to solve problems on the short term.

The US were `happy` to join up with Russia knowing their communist political views before the Cold War, or receive Bin Laden`s support against... Russia... until he `became` a dangerous extremist.

Maybe it is because we try to solve our problems differently when the choice is there.

And for the record, I`m all for old traditions, such as the running of the bulls. I`m not arguing against the running of the bulls. I just take exception to the usual European snobbery towards the US just because we`ve only been around for 240 years. I might remind you that we`ve at least had a continuous government for those 240 years. None of you guys can say the same.

We have a nice 240 year old tradition..it`s called the Freedom. We recognize your freedom to have your traditions. We have the freedom to have an opinion about those traditions. You have the freedom to be upset that some people do not like your tradition.

Freedom is great. It gives us all the option to have our own opinion.

You keep harping about how America is too young to understand. Get over yourselves. Europe could still be a world power if they hadn`t frittered it away with socialist and socialist-like agendas. Now that we have Obama, we`ll bew joining you soon. Then the world will have no one to protect it from the Islamofacists.

Deny all you want. But you need us Americans because we`ll do the job that you don`t have the stomach for anymore.

Wow, I wonder how this turned into an argument about the US versus Europe (sentence is drenched in sarcasm). Pilgrims? Indians? World War Two?!? It`s a video about a bullrun in Spain! What the Hell is wrong with you people? But getting back to the video, sweet Jesus Christ, has it ever occured to anyone that running away from multiple bulls in crowded city streets might be, I don`t know, a terrible idea?

GunMetal - As you, cleverly, mention, it is not because you don`t undersand it that it gives you the right to judge it.

FYI, I do know American History probably way better that you know about Europe`s one. I recongize that there is much less matter to absorb for the US than Europe, I am not being smart or ironic there is simply less centuries to cover.

Settlers had a different attitude toward Natives, but they also are your closer parents. AS much as I value the History between the Pilgrims and the Natives Americans I still strongly think that celebrating Thanksgiving is a bit hyprocrit in many ways. At least South Dakota tried to make it up with the Native American Day, certainly late but it is never too late in these cases.

"But our men and women have done more acts of bravery and lost more lives fighting to save OTHER people`s countries than the rest of the world combined. And in the future, we`ll keep helping countries that need us to risk our lives to help them, even if they call us pussies."

Oh so you`re claiming your country has lost more military servicemen than the rest of the world? it would appear that you are not aware of world war II & I then, and don`t claim that they were only doing it to save their own country because America also took part in the war to save their own country.

Anyway as for running of the bull, I would love to do it, the adrenaline rush would be amazing.
Oh and I bet the lame-ass who tripped and caused that barely even got bruised.

DavidXJ - I think you are right, whether the US or any European countru were to need support I like to believe that both would stand up for each other. AS you mention, currents conflicts fit in a totally different context, which might partly lead to their unpopularity.

To definitely go off-topic, Obama`s decisions and actions are internationally appreciated and recognized as a great move forward. It is almost sad that the G20 will mostly be focused on the economic crisis when many subjects would deserve greater attention in normal times. For the record, America, and Americans never appeared greater in recent times than the day Obama won the elections.

Sorry FreshMint, we`re playing "post tag."

I realize that our current conflicts aren`t the same as the World Wars. Popular or not, though, they are being fought with an all volunteer army, and people aren`t even 100% behind it. Imagine the response our military would get if there was a cause that everyone believed in, like defending Europe from an invasion from a force like the Nazis. If a European country needed our help defending their country from invasion, we`d have your backs in a second, and I think you`d be suprised by the willingness of our men and women to risk their lives for any of you, and we hope you`d do the same for us.

I think Americans come across as bullies and ungrateful. But behind the bravado, I think most US citizens have a respect for our European ancestory and really do want to have good relationships with the people of Europe.

Hey Freshmint, don`t be an ignorant non-nice individual. The Pilgrims at Thanksgiving did not kill the Native Americans, it was different greedy and evil settlers years later. You by far are the most ignorant person from Europe I may have talked to, (and that is BIG). Just think, why the hell would Americans be forced to take classes to understand traditions of countries across the world?

The posters in this thread may not understand, some may be ignorant. But you take the cake.

I`ve gone back and read even more of the US people`s comments. No wonder whey FreshMint is annoyed. Yes, if you decide to run with the bulls you it is also your fault if you get gored. But don`t you think they realize that? The danger adds excitement, like skydiving. Do you really think you need to call them f&%#ing morons? They want it to be risky in order to test their will, and they realize that this might mean getting gored, trampled, or killed. You all get in your cars every day and have a 1 in 18,585 of dying.

And quit with the "they deserve to be trampled" B.S. I would say it`s their own fault, but that`s different than "deserving it." Like I said, it`s our own fault if we die in a car accident because we chose to ride in the car, but that doesn`t mean we "deserve" to die in a car crash. It`s just a risk we took.

I have an immense respect, and a profound gratefulness to those who went to Europe and lost their lives to free it up from Nazi Germany.

Bull Crowd Surfing = Awesome!

I apologize for any US pussy-type comments. Your right. It is a tradition of fraternity and bravery, safe or not. We have WAY too many laws aimed at keeping our public safe, an therefore, have a hard time having fun. If people want to run with the bulls as an act of bravery, awesome. If I want to light a M-80 firecracker, that should be my own choice.

But don`t say we`re not brave. And don`t say "no offense" and then say you think we`re pussies. If you think we`re pussies just say it. But our men and women have done more acts of bravery and lost more lives fighting to save OTHER people`s countries than the rest of the world combined. And in the future, we`ll keep helping countries that need us to risk our lives to help them, even if they call us pussies.

Tell me about US` 240 year old tradition... Thanksgiving? In Europe, we don`t celebrate the day people gave us food if we slaughtered them right after.

Turtlestyl - This is a tradition, enciero was the way the bulls were transported from the coral to the bull rings the day before the corrida.

Pampelona might be the most famous, and by far the most impressive, and the largest. For the records, in a century only 10 deaths are reported with a run every morning for 8 days in a row.

As much as you might think it is stupid and dangerous, these are the celebration of ancestral traditions that forge the identity of Spain, as well as the South of France. You are by no mean in position to judge them, or people who take part of it.

Again, I wish the US had proper History and ancestral traditions - it would help you to understand. I know it`s probably too much to ask for a country with less than 240 years of history....

Oh, we call our own people doing stupid things, stupid. Why should we give you a pass?

Tradition is fine, but don`t expect us to agree with it. Just because you`ve dons something so monumentally retarded for so long doesn`t make it any less foolish.

I`m not saying any people deserve to die or be injured in these festivites, but neither do the bulls. This is a cruel ritual.

Hey, I`d have a lot less of a problem if they conducted this without a slaughter at the end. It`s one thing to "run" the bulls; and then, another to slaughter an animal for food. But, through fear and obstacles, to corral them to their deaths is obscene.
